Americans and Canadians culture Q&A Thread.

Is there a national park/historical site in the USA that you would like to visit?
ALL of them. I have a dream of a small travel trailer or converted van and my husband and I visiting as many National parks as we can. We did an amazing trip to Jasper, Banff and Yoho National parks and hiked and camped. I’d like to see many of the American National parks the same way.
I‘m a nature lover and a history buff so there is so much I want to explore.

I have been to a few US national/historical sites. I enjoyed them but they aren't my thing right now. My dream would be to road trip across the US and visit as many of the amusement parks as possible. My goal is to beat my record of 11 different parks in one year.

And you can visit head-smashed-in-Buffalo-jump (which is just fun to say).

I didn't realise that Alberta had a well-known Passion play. Thanks for the information.

It is truly epic! :lovestruc
That's not the norm in Canada in my experience. Today is 31/05/22 (day/month/year) to most Canadians (again, in my experience).
I've never been used to doing it that way. I do it the way I say it 05/31/22 - May 31st, 2022. I find it varies from form-to-form and there isn't really a single, consistent format. I find it so weird when watching UK tv that they actually say out loud "31st May, 2022".

I used to work for a multinational company that had offices in the US, Australia, Canada and France, and I had to deal with them all on a regular basis. I got into the habit of writing the date as 31 May 2022 so there would be no confusion. Later on, when I changed jobs, my boss got on my case about it; he said I had to write it the "correct" way, (i.e. the American way) as 05/31/22.

With the passage of time, I still write it as 31 May 2022 on correspondence, but now I more often have to do it the ISO intl. standard way for machine-readable data: 2022-05-31.

Truth be told I had to look at a bill we got in the mail , this is how it was …… I don’t write the date very often ….lol

This is how I was instructed in school, and still use.

I wonder if it is just going by the wayside, along with the word serviette.
I love young Canadians' faces when I ask for one.

I still say serviette

I have no ide which way I write it. I think I write out the month, and then number for the date.

Not really. I'm not an outdoorsey type. I do look forward to visiting NYC sometime; is Times Square a national park?

It is a historical place in our colonial history. I remember a couple of years ago, they found a buried ship near by during a construction build. It was a trade ship and they found alcohol stored on the ship that I believe was sold at auction. 300 years + old alcohol. 😲 I’ll try to find the article.

Actually the ship was found around 2014-5 when they were excavating for the new buildings being built at ground zero, not the Times Square area. Times Square wasn’t even a place in colonial times.

Thanks for the correction about the ship. For Times Square, I meant the area. I meant that it wasn’t just trees there. I believe their were some trades shops in use there in the 18th century.
I do wish NYC would rebuild the King George 3 statue and put it in a NY 18th century museum.
Also a cool fact about NYC in Revolution is that the Turtle (America’s first submarine) was tested in NYC Harbor.

Incredibly cool and the coolest thing about it is that you drive through a hundred miles of verdant farm land to get there, lush and abundant, then turn a corner and the earth drops out from under you. It feels like falling through a portal into another world. And for anybody that’s into paleontology, the Royal Tyrrell Museum is recognized as one of the foremost facilities in the world. The amazing topography also lends itself perfectly to the site of an annual Passion Play that attracts visitors from around the globe; similar to Oberammergau.
How could you go and say all of that and forget the most important site???

The Little Church at Drumheller, just a short hop away from Royal Tyrrell. It is a must-stop every time we are in the area. We have more pictures of our family around that little church than we do around the Christmas tree.

I don't think we ever called them serviettes, they have always been napkins.

I go on vacation, even if all I am doing is staying home.
