Does anyone know if the contestants get paid anything at all? How do they support their families when they are spending months away from their real jobs? I noticed Kris' wife is in the audience every week too. I wonder if she works?? :scratchin <----always wanted to use that smilie!

I have heard that they get paid but no idea how much. But I too wonder about the family members. How can THEY afford to take off from their jobs for possibly months? Where are they staying? The show is the middle of the week so flying back and forth doesn't make sense either. I've always wondered that too.

I also wonder if people like Michael and Megan get paid for these weeks they are not in the show. How can they be expected to find a job for 6-8 weeks before they have to leave again to go on the tour. Maybe their other jobs were held for them. But I would bet most are not that flexible.

I seem to recall that they get paid depending on how high they finish but I could be wrong. Of course, they also get paid for the tour.

I don't get those who are on the show and have young children. They are always talking about how they miss their children and how they are on AI to help their families out. This just doesn't make sense. The odds of making it big are very small and with the tour they are away from their families for at least one half of a year. I think that it makes much more sense to stay with their families and a steady job. I know that this sounds judgemental but being on AI is really all about the contestant and when you become a parent your children come first.

OK 43 year old woman chiming in here about Lady GaGa-

First don't judge based on that- how many performers these days sound awesome live- when they aren't lip syncing like they all do now? She was not.

Her CD is unbelievable- she is a mix of talent comparable to Madonna and Gwen Stefani.Actually her real name I believe is Joanne Stefani.

She is coming to Six Flags here in May and we are going- DDs 17 and 14 love her!

My DH loves her music too.We were also diappointed in that performance. She was in Boston this past weekend and my DD17 friends went and she was great.

Linda

I have a new respect for Lady Gaga after her performance on Idol. I thought she was great, especially the beginning bit when she was at the piano. As a fan of all things 'out there', I love her eclectic style. I read an article she wrote on her webpage after the Idol performance and apparently she was very sick at the time with a virus. She rescheduled several of her performances that took place after Idol.

Also I just checked wikipedia and apparently her full name is really Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta. Her stage name comes from the Queen song "Radio Ga-Ga." And apparently she dyes her hair blonde because when she was a brunette people kept mistaking her for Amy Winehouse :rotfl:

I completely agree. I understand they are following their dream and want a better life for their families, but it just seems like they should have thought of all that BEFORE they had kids.

Kind of interesting that the last three people to get voted off had kids. Since so many of the families are there for the shows, I wonder if the contestants HAVE to live in the house or can stay with their families.

AFAIK Lil is now the only parent left. Instead of thinking awwwww when they shamelessly trotted out Lil's kids last week, I kept thinking about her poor husband. The guy probably has a job he should be at but now he's stuck half way across the country taking care of all three kids alone while his wife is off 'following her dream'. He deserves a lot of credit. :thumbsup2 And her poor kids! They lose their house and probably most (if not all of their things) and were living out of a hotel and now instead of finally getting some stability back in their lives they are living in yet another hotel or being shuffled back and forth and THIS time without their mom there much of the time. :sad2:

i voted for kris because i hope he gets the save. but i think it will probably be used for adam (yuck) or gokey (also yuck.)

I think the save will be used on Allison since she keeps ending up in the bottom 3:confused3

she doesn't belong there!

....ONE more, for the road...

The contestants HAVE to join AFTRA in order to be on the show. AFTRA has a minimum payment clause of about $900 a week. I'm sure they get more.

When I joined the requirement was about $27,000 a year... but that was in the 70s!!

I felt the same way, I can't stand "Play That Funky Music". I do like Adam, but I wouldn't consider him "funky" :rotfl:

I am so pleased Megan went home last night. Her voice was quirky, and there were things I really liked about her (like in her bio where she said she loves Bjork and wants to be on Yo Gabba Gabba....very cool!). But all the mugging for the camera was irritating. It was like she was trying to be cute and came off as crazy instead. And while I thought her voice was unique, that doesn't mean I found her singing pleasant to listen to.

I am all about Adam. He's really the only person holding my interest week to week.

That makes me like her a little bit more now! We are big Yo Gabba Gabba fans in our house - I think most people with kids under 3 are right now!!

What is AFTRA and why did you join?

Friends of mine allow their 15 month old to watch it.

My DD3 has been a huge fan since it started. I like it too. My favorite song is "Don't Bite Your Friends." :rotfl2: I still think Megan would be perfect for the dancey dance section. I just saw Rachel Dratch did one.:banana:

AFTRA is The American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, a union for radio and TV performers, similar to SAG which is the union for Screen actors. You have to join and pay fees just like any other labor union. I've been in broadcasting for about 30 years.
