Country music is, at it's heart, all about singing, the song, and the artist.
Musical theatre, is, at it's heart, is theatre. It's pretty hard to compare the two. Musical theatre trains it's performers in a very different style. It's all about the show and projection.
Ask any very good vocal coach.

I wasn't comparing the two, just trying to point out that the show is about singing, not a particular type of genre or how classically trained a participant is. Anyone can win it, regardless of what their background is, if they gain a big enough fan base. I just don't think that Adam having a theater background is really going to alter anything about the show.

My take on Adam..yes I think his every move is totally rehearsed. I think that is why I don't like him. To me he seems like the type that stands in front of the mirror and practices his moves and facial expressions over and over till he has it down pat. Then other than Motown week every song he sings starts out nice and he's just singing...then he gears up for his glory ending..he speeds it up, voice gets loader, mouth opens wider, tongue comes out and the screeching begins. Everyone complains that Danny sounds the same and does the same every week...so does Adam he just changes his look and his performance every week..but his style of singing is the same. Again...just my humble little opinion. I do think he will win or I'd be very surprised if he didn't but I am not going to like the fact that he won.

And me...I'd be more apt to go see someone who just sings in concert rather than someone who has to do a show with all the bells and whistles to make it interesting. I go to listen to the songs...everything else is show and that is why I stay away from concerts unless they are in small venues.

The thing about Adam is that even though he can be theatrical, his voice is amazing even when he is sitting still. His performance of Mad World was his best, yet he sat on a stool and then just stood up at the end. He wasn't dancing or running around the stage. Yet it was great.

A good singer doesn't have to do anything to sound amazing. But everything Adam does makes him very entertaining.

Adam's style of singing may be the same but every song is very different. Ring of Fire, Mad World, Black and White, Whole Lotta Love,....all so different but yes same singing style. Each contestant should have the same singing style throughout the competion but you should be able to remember their songs as individual performances. I can't remember any of Danny's except for last night and that isn't in a good way.

I'm so annoyed that they didn't do two songs each for the top four and five like they used to. And now when they're supposed to be doing three songs each, they're only doing two. I hope they get rid of Kara next year. Then the judges comments wouldn't take up so much time. She's useless anyway.

I have to say Danny's screech was truly a screech..it was painful. I did plug my ears. So Adams screech's are on on key and Danny's was just awful!


BTW...I don't remember any of Adams songs at all..I have no clue what the Mad World song is that everyone here raves over. Of course I don't remember too many of the other contestants either.

I am also really bummed about the contestants getting to sing fewer songs this year. The whole point of the show is picking out a favorite contestant but the show is giving them less time to show us what they can do. On the other hand, it seems like we are hearing more guest performances on results nights than ever before. This is just wrong.

Maybe we should post our contestants that really annoyed us. Off the top of my head my list would be Fantasia, Carrie, Kellie Pickler, Taylor Hicks, Danny Gokey.

The only ones that really annoyed me were Fantasia and Constantine. Sanjaya because he was on way longer than he deserved to be.

Count me among the Fantasia, and Constantine haters. For that matter I also hated Melinda Doolittle, Ace Young, Elliot Yamin and Paris.

My favorites have been David Cook, Bo Bice, CHris Daughtry, Clay Aiken, Kelly CLarkson, Taylor and even Blake Lewis.

Contestants that annoyed me: Fantasia, Fantasia, Fantasia, Fantasia, Fantasia, Ruben, and last but not least....Fantasia.

It was bad. And not to be petty, but when they showed her talking to Ryan after in another dress, she looked like she didn't have time to put her bra on! Her "girls" are usually more pushed up and perky, and she looked horrific.

Paula's & No Doubt's performance was NOT live. It was taped on Tuesday night and broadcast on video screens on Wed. night.

I thought Allison was nice enough, but she bored me. Every single week, it was SOS. Growly, throaty-voiced raspy rocker chick sings whatever.

"Growly, throaty-voiced raspy" - you sure you're not talking about Danny? Additionally, his performances are entirely predictable. Start with the throaty-voiced rasp, get louder as the song progresses until you're shouting it and then look smug and arrogant as the judges fawn over you because they've assured you you'll be in the final 2. Sorry, but he just turns my stomach and should have left before Alison.

Adam will probably win, and that will be the last we'll hear of him--until his first (of many) Broadway openings. He's a very talented singer/dancer/actor, and that's his genre. (Emphasis on the ACTING...most universities with a musical theatre program have an Adam-esque student every few years.)

Right now Adam has a world wide fan base and Simon has rightfully said that he's the contestant who will potentially have an international performing career. Danny's only appeal will be to Middle America and the Christian music scene. Canada, Asia and Europe have zero interest in Chokey. It's kind of amusing how so many posters are convinced that Adam's only career choice is Musical Theater. That's NOT his choice and if he manages to get good material for his first album he'll have as big a career as Carrie and Kelly.

I think that Danny showed us on Tuesday night how hard it is to do what Adam is able to do. If Adam is just screaming like some of you like to complain then Danny's epic failure on Tuesday wouldn't be nearly as funny. That was a scream vs. the ability to hit and hold a high note.

I agree with everything you said. For the past couple of weeks, Kara seems to be trying too hard. The enthusiasm seems fake. Just keep crazy Paula around. At least she is interesting.
