American Idol, Season 5 **Official Discussion Thread**

Okay...I am SO lost. It's bad enough that my VCR decided to jump to another channel right last night right before the last two groups were told their fates! But now...why are they skipping around so much?? They totally blew through Hollywood, leaving me so off-balance and only picking a very few favs from their original auditions! This is the first time that I've felt so "out of it" going into the final 24. Could someone post a link or a list of some sort of those who made it through when they are done? Thanks...maybe that will help me get my AI knowledge in gear!

I wish we could have seen more of the singing because so far no one stands out and says "pick me" I don't think we have heard enough of the voices, we have seen a few chosen ones, but not all. The one guy they picked I have no clue who he even is and/or what he sang! (he was one of the first ones picked)

So next week when they sing I'm going to have no idea if it is an off week or if they really sound like that, or if they are having a really good week because I have no clue what most of them sound like.

I really enjoy hearing Taylor Hicks sing.

I also really like Ace and Kellie Pickler.

I don't know the name of the two girls who sat down in front of the judges at the end...but I don't think they made the right choice on that one (I thought the chubbier girl sang better in the clips).

So far, I really like Taylor Hicks and Kelly Pickler, and the thin brunette that had on a very colorful shirt today...she was very, very grateful, and I like that attitude.

I am not a Paris fan. This is because her grandmother was in a well-known singing group. I think that this should have been enough of an opportunity for her to make it in the music industry (I'm sure her grandma must know SOMEONE!) I believe AI is for those that truely have no other "in"s into the music industry.

This looks like a fun season!

Hello, DIS Idol fans! Haven't posted in this thread before, but, as a resident of the city of Memphis, TN, let me sincerely apologize for our city giving the world the Brittenum twins. Anyway, here in town we already knew they were gone, as their arrests were heavily reported in the loal news. I thought it was funny how they used clips from our local FOX news affiliate to show what happened to them... our anchor, Mearl Purvis, got some national exposure, anyway.

I know my city would have given up some better talent this year if our auditions hadn't been cancelled. They haven't mentioned much about it, but this year there was supposed to be a round of auditions here in Memphis for the first time. Those got cancelled, though, because of Hurricane Katrina. The hurricane came through right beofre the auditions, and the cancelled beacuse all the hotels were all booked up from evacuees. Fox didn't want to displace any evacuees, so they called off the audtitons. Disappointing, but I think they made the right decision.

EDIT: I was watching our local FOX affiliate tonight, and it turns out that Gideon McKinney is from Memphis, too. Guess I'll be pulling for him.

And hey, I was pulling for Garet.... probably becuase of his name.

Anyway, my choices right now are Chris Daughtry, Paris Bennett, and Taylor Hicks. I think the guys overall have more talent, but I can't really be sure until I hear more from them.

they did a segment near the end of the show with news footage reporting their arrests. Then saying how they won't be around.

The grey hair guy, Taylor Hicks, did indeed make it.

And the twins.... well, the less said about them, the better. Turns out they got thrown in jail for identity theft... they used someone else's identity to purchase a car to drive to Atlanta for the audition. They give Memphis a bad name.

The twins got into some big time trouble with the police and were arrested. They are definitely out. The grey haired guy, Taylor Hicks, made it.

So far, I really like Kellie Pickler. She seems like a really sweet girl. I need to hear them all sing though particularly the guy named Ace. Wow, he's a cutie!

Yeah!!! Ayla Brown made it!!! Just 17, talented beyond belief, not just singing, she's a high school All-American basketball player (tall and beautiful). She is awesome and such a nice girl (she has dated friends of my son) and her parents are just as nice as can be!!! Keep an eye out for her.

Secondly, the VFTW crowd would really prove their immaturity if they picked (Taylor?...the gray haired guy) as their candidate. I mean, how dumb do you have to be to wail and moan about how all the AI people want are cookie-cutter pop stars with no real soul of their own, then turn around and promote as the "worst" candidate a supremely talented guy who they can make fun of 'cause he moves like Joe Cocker? It's like complaining about how corrupt politicians are these days...then campaigning for Tom Delay. Actually, maybe it was one of the "twins" that started that site. At least, they have the same over-inflated opinion of their self worth.

I like Taylor and think that he'll get a lot of votes just because of who he is. VFTW promoting him would backfire on them because I don't believe that they would be going for anywhere close to the least popular contestant.

I am just relieved we are finally to the final 24! Now the competition will finally begin!

Anyway, I just thought you all would get a kick out of these pictures! My dd was born about 3 weeks before the finale of AI:Season 4 and I would sit and rock her those last few weeks while watching AI. It's nice to see I must have gotten her hooked early on, lol. Here she is watching AI on Tues. night! She was really fascinated with it!

Just two words............. TAYLOR HICKS!!!!!!!!! When he came in to find out his fate (yeah, like we thought he might be cut ) blowing on that harmonica, I was just loving it. He's like in his own time and space but it's a happy place to be.

I really like Taylor Hicks also! Very unique style and voice. I think he will do surprisingly well. Remember AI's audience isn't all young. I believe the majority of women watching and voting will really like him (I hope so).
