American Idol, Season 5 **Official Discussion Thread**

Thanks. I thought I remembered last year that they didn't even get to sing again. Now I won't feel so sorry for them. I'm looking forward to seeing them all and I forgot about the drama of the lonely elevator ride!!

Chase Bush from Richmond Ky, was on my local radio station this morning. He commented several times about how noone liked the twins and how it didn't matter now because they are in jail. Hopefully, tonight will be the last time we have to endure them.

I honestly thought when they were showing the Hollywood cuts last night that it was a preview for tonight. I couldn't believe how they just threw that into the last 5 or 10 minutes of the show.

I don't have a favorite yet, because they really haven't given me a chance to hear anyone. They are skipping all over the place, yet devoting way too much time to the twins.

I was really disappointed not to see Ace or Chris D.'s group song.
Why do they focus so much time on 3-4 groups and none on others?
I wish they could show at least a few seconds of each group's songs.
Why do they need to blow threw the Hollywood portion so quickly??
And enough with the twins already-yuck!

I really enjoyed Elliott, who seemed to come out of nowhere last night. As others have already mentioned, we hadn't seen him before this and he's definitely got talent.

I didn't see Lisa Tucker last night (Simon's pick for best 16 year-old ever). Does anyone know if she made it through. I like her a lot.

I thought the little cowboy had a wonderful attitude after being cut. He (unlike many of the other contestants) seemed to understand that he wasn't ready for all of this but appreciated everything he had the chance to do. What a nice kid!

On to the twins...
If I were them, or their lawyer(s), I'd be very concerned about finding an impartial jury when their case comes up :rotfl: :rotfl:

Oh and a new one to watch... Elliott. He was in the first twins group. What a great voice. This is the first time I can recall seeing him.

Was that the group with the oriental guy and the curly-haired guy? I thought the latter sounded good, yet he was booted and the former did not impress me at all, yet he went on. Some times, I just don't get the judges.

jumping in here late, I had to TIVO it last night.... I totally agree with the twins, the one is always throwing a whiney, hissy fit! Get over it Drama Queen!!!!!

How much time do the contestants have to learn the words to the songs? I love it when they make up their own words. I do the same thing!! But I would never sing in front of anyone!!! :rotfl:

twins are soo annoying! sorry to see Garret go, i really liked him! Agree that Paris wasn't great last night and i can't stand being rushed through Hollywood week! the auditions are annoying and they can put everything they need to in just one week (2shows) and then bring on hollywood....

I'm confused do they each sing "a capela" tonight? I feel like we missed a whole part of the auditions last night.

Twins be gone!

One more thing--why did they all think that writing the words on their arms would help? That is such a bad idea! Like it's not bad enough to forget the words, the ones who just made something up looked better than those who hummed and stared at their wrists!

It just goes to show you that there is more to performing than being able to sing well. Preparation and musicality is just as important. You may be able to sing in the shower, but do you really know what you're doing? Having seen my daughters learn lines for plays and lyrics for songs on short notice time and time again, I can appreciate how hard it is and how much more there is to just the performance itself.

I'm surprised nobody ahs mentioned it before, but I thought the goof on Brokeback Mountain was hilarious. I know, I also wish they would spend more time on the acutal performances, but that was definitely worth it. And be honest, how many of you teared a little at the story of three cowboys? They may not have performed well last night, but they exemplified what competition is all about.

Are they both in jail? I thought just one was.

I got teary when they were cut and Garrett was apologozing for lwtting them down. The response of the other cowboy, (tall guy) was touching....No whining, no blaming, just support and friendship. And yes, Brokeback Mountain spoof was funny.

What a change from the whiny twins.

Elliott was in the group with the Asian guy who forgot the words, one of the twins and the guy wearing a hat. The guy wearing the hat was better then the two they put through (twin and Asian guy). Elliott was a standout though.

Lisa Tucker made it through to the top 44. We should learn her fate tonight.....

The guy in Elliot's group I assumed was Hispanic, not Asian (Jose Penela aka SWAY who is also in the top 44)

Okay...I am SO lost. It's bad enough that my VCR decided to jump to another channel right last night right before the last two groups were told their fates! But now...why are they skipping around so much?? They totally blew through Hollywood, leaving me so off-balance and only picking a very few favs from their original auditions! This is the first time that I've felt so "out of it" going into the final 24. Could someone post a link or a list of some sort of those who made it through when they are done? Thanks...maybe that will help me get my AI knowledge in gear!

She is still coming up. 3 girls left, and only 2 spots.......

I know her fate, but we all will in a few.

Well, that's a fine group of guys!!! None of the girls really impress me that much but the guys are very exciting. Such a huge range of styles (and mighty nice to look at too!!!)

Brenna Gethers cracks me up!

I lost my favorite girl tonight (April Walsh aka she who goes up the down escalator), but Brenna will take her place!

My pre-predictions of next week's boots before even hearing them sing:

Girls: Heather Cox and Kinnik (or Brenna :guilty: )

Guys: Bobby Bennett and Bucky Covington
