Virgo, who is Ayla's mother? Is it Gail Huff?? Some reason I'm thinking that's who it is?

Yes! We saw her at the auditions in Boston. She was with her daughter.

About Taylor Hicks. I don't know much about hair stuff but could he dye his hair? It would be interesting to see how it changes his look.

Not that I'm saying there's anything wrong with gray hair....

I like his style and I'm interested to see what he does in the coming weeks. I think he may be too unique for American Idol though.

I think that makes him stand out and be remembered. I think it will be his strange body movements that will bother people more than the hair. You can style him up to fit AI standards with the gray hair (look at George Clooney) but they will probably work on his body movement first, IMO.

I'm a south jersey gal too!

!

I totally agree...I can't stand that jerky body movement about Joe Cocker and I don't know how long I can stand watching Taylor if he doesn't stop trying to be Joe Cocker...The gray hair is not even an issue to me,,,its that body movement....though if I looked at him and had to guess his age I would put him at at least 45 years old!
I am just SO SO glad that those annoying twins are gone...what dirtbags!!!

Virgo, does that mean you were at the auditions? Is there something you need to share with us??? :teeth:

I don't know how I knew it was Gail Huff's daughter, it was put in the back of my mind at some point LOL....

I think that Taylor Hicks is a breath of fresh air! It is about time that they let someone in that has their own style that doesn't conform with "modern" day suburbia. Also, Ace would be right up there, he has the looks and can sing, bet he makes it down to the wire.

As for the girls....can't seem to remember too many names, Kelly Pickle and there was a girl with long darker hair that was a little wavy, quit pretty and soft spoken, she was very good.

You have to love Taylor Hicks - if not for his voice, just his personality and the way he keeps everything so lighthearted. It was hilarious how he walked that "long journey" through the ballroom while playing his harmonica. He just seems like a genuinely nice guy.

Was it just us or did it look like he did color his hair a bit. It didn't look quite as bright grey as before, it seemed to have a blonder undertone to it (according to DW Lauri) like he tried to tone it down a bit without completely taking out the grey.

Her mom is Gail Huff and her dad is state senator Scott Brown. She definitely won in the looks department, her dad is so handsome. She has done OK on her own, she's a high school all-american for basketball, and she's very nice. :cool1:

Is it just me, folks, or are there more arrogant candidates (even this last go around with the top 24) this year more so than others? A couple of them I just wanted to boot just for their "I'm such a big shot" behavior.

I would think that if you were an AI, you would want to be a positive example, and not such a self-absorbed snob. :confused3

Taylor Hicks - I like him but what is up with his movements? It's like a Ray Charles thing going...

also the basketball player, wonder how much her father played in this. She can sing but I thought there were others who were better.

I always think they put a few people through that are not so good so we have a few easy choices on who to vote off (or actually not vote FOR) in the first few weeks. If everyone was super good it would be too hard to decide who should go.

they did a segment near the end of the show with news footage reporting their arrests. Then saying how they won't be around.

Yes, the grey hair guy made it. Taylor, I think his name is.
Thanks for the info. I was wondering why they were even there in the first place. I thought they caught them BEFORE they made it thru to Hollywood.

My DH likes him, but I don't really. He reminds me of my old neighbor who had cerebal palsey, because of the way he walks and his jerky movements. :confused3

I like the young bald guy with the kinda rough voice. We both like the blond girl whose father is in jail.

This year I think most of the 24 are very talented and likable. I love Lisa Tucker and the bigger lady who told Simon how much his rude remarks hurt her but she forgave him. What a class act. And what talent. I haven't been this excited about an American Idol in a longggggg time!

That is who my DD6 is pulling for. Last year at this point she called Carrie and Bo out. She has been watching Idol since she was 6 months old.LOL

I don't think her dad had anything to do with her getting through. Her mom would have had more to do with it being a local TV reporter. But, I don't think that was the case either. Was she the best? Maybe not, but I have to think that she was consistenly good...where some others were great one time, and not so great another time. Don't forget we don't see everything those judges see. My dh works with a woman from Ayla's hometown...this one woman says there are a ton of people in that town that are sick to death of Ayla this and Ayla that...that she is the 'golden' girl around there. Wonder if it's sour grapes time for some of those people? I'll have to ask my friend who is originally from that town...perhaps she has heard something.
Love Taylor, and of course Ace...gotta love Kelly Pickler. Some pretty good talent out there, some, imho..not so great. We'll see what happens.

I love Taylor's voice too but the jerky movements have me confused. Like someone else said, he's got a Ray Charles/Stevie Wonder thing going on there. What's with that???

My faves at this point are Mandisa Hundley and Chris Daughtry but I don't think either one will win. My early on guess is a Kelly Pickler/Paris Bennet/Lisa Tucker show down but I reserve the right to change my mind. I am a woman after all ;)

Her mom had nothing to do with it either, she's on another network!! Her mom's network can't even do a story on Ayla's American Idol success. People tend to be a bit jealous when someone does so many things so well. The reality is she's a nice girl (who knows how fortunate she is) who has made the most of every opportunity she has been given. Truly a roll model for young girls, smart, athletic, poised & talented, my daughter (13 1/2) and her friends just love her (and they thought she was a roll model before American Idol). Even the judges acknowledged that she's not an underdog but she is incredibly motivated and driven just the same!!!! Hopefully viewers will come to see the sweet, talented all-american teenager that she is.

As for guys I love Taylor, and Ace and Will (the Fred Savage look alike)!!

I agree totally. If they can coach him to calm that aspect down, I think he definitely has a "Micheal McDonald in the Doobie Brothers era" vibe about him that could turn out to be pretty cool.

And Ace...is just smokin' hot. I loved how they showed Paula fanning herself after he left the room.

I agree that they put some of those people through to make for easy eliminations in the first few rounds, i.e., Kevin Corvais, Bucky Covington, etc.

I think I'll wait until I see the 24 sing a full song - do a full performance - before I make my top 3 predictions. I feel like we've seen so little of these people.
