American Idol, Season 5 **Official Discussion Thread**

I also don't see the big deal with Kellie. She reminds me of Chrissy Snow from Three's Company - cute but an airhead!
From what I understand, that's a big act, to some extent.

I don't think the backstories have as much impact as a singer's home state. It's a bit like the US Presidency -- in general, many voters from some states will only vote for candidates from certain states, while voters from other states will vote for candidates from any state. Due to this, the candidates that do best are those that come from the states that the first group of voters are willing to vote for, because those candidates will get the state-biased and state-unbiased votes.

From Damo's article, when asked what kind of theme they would like:

LISA TUCKER Rock. I love rock music.

Then why the heck haven't you sung some rock over the past 4 weeks instead of all those songs that are so much more mature and older than you? At the risk of sounding like Randy Jackson - the girl needs to cut loose and bring it!

I have horrible teeth. I was born this way. It is well over 10,000 dollars to fix them so I want them all pulled and false teeth put in. My dentist refuses. They only want to do painful and years worth of work. So I am glad that I am not the only one feeling like teeth are a hard thing to accept or to leave alone.

OT, but I just wanted to say, I think you should find a new dentist. I think it is terrible he won't do what you want him to do.

ITA she was my favorite coming in but now in the bottom half. She needs to pick some younger songs that the younger voters have at least heard of! When she did Whitney at the auditions, I got goose bumps but that was the only time it has happened for me. I like her but like you siad..she needs to bring it!!

When Seacrest said, "...and they're STILL talking...", referring to the twins, I'm pretty sure one of them shouted out something like, "...and we're rich too" in response.

I have always been a firm believer that if a person has to tell you how important they are or how rich they are, then that is a pretty strong sign that they are NOT. :teeth:

And those outfits . . . looks like they broke out of jail, Chloroxed their orange jumpsuits to white and caught up with AI. :rotfl2:

The sad part is...that is probably exactly what happened!! :rotfl2:

ITA! And did anyone else notice the big guy that was sitting behind them and giving them very dirty looks? I told my husband "that must be their (prison) guard"! :rotfl2:

I've been reading all the posts since last night and I don't think this will be a popular comment but . . .

Actually I think Kellie is pretty outgoing and friendly considering what's happened in her life. She could have easily ended up bitter and negative. I know some of y'all will say she's got me snowed but I guess I can relate to where I think she's coming from.

I so completely agree with you! I don't know if Kellie is lying or exaggerating, and neither does anyone else, actually. It is all conjecture at this point. As to her playing up her past while some others have not, I can tell you that from a psychological standpoint, being abandoned my one's mother has a profound impact on a person's (especially girl's) psyche, and has more longterm effects than even the death of a parent. I applaud Kellie for overcoming the situation and being where she is today. As the saying goes, "Unless you have walked in her shoes..."

Without having to read back through all the posts, could someone tell me who was sent home Thursday night?

Taylor and Elliott appear as obvious 1 & 2 to me. Taylor has unique sound that is impossible to not want to listen to, he's also a spirited performer. Elliott has the best voice I've heard in years and can put some life into the currently terrible soul genre. These are the only two whose CDs I'd consider buying, and that to me is what I think of when I vote.

The only two others who come close to me are Mandisa and Chris. Mandisa is pretty good, but doesn't excite me or anything. Chris has a great rock voice, but the type of music he performs is everywhere and he would simply add to the oversaturation.

Ace has an average voice, comes off as a wimp and is only getting by on looks, please vote him off. However, Kevin is by far the worst. How in the world is he still there? Please please please get rid of him. It's an absolute joke that Gedeon was voted off before him. Gedeon wasn't cocky, he was just always smiling and a very outspoken happy religious person.

I partially agree with you. I would put the same 4 in the top 4, though not neccessarily in that order.
ITA about Gedeon. I didn't find him at all cocky, just self assured which often comes with having a strong religious background. He was actually very gracious and took criticism better than most of the others. I also don't think he "talked to us like we're morons" or something to that effect that was said, he speaks like a preacher (again showing his strong religious background). Remember little Garret "the cryin' cowboy"? I think Gedeon could be "the singing preacher". :woohoo:

LOL!!!!!!! I figured you were having that dilemma based on how you asked your question.

Kalan Porter isn't he most masculine looking guys, but the one time I heard his voice, I was shocked. The voice does not match the look.

Changing that sig pic (I thought it was a girl, too, and the word on it's chest kinda  me...)

For Once in My life

Interesting, I still think he could blow the house down with "Signed, Sealed, Delivered"

As long as they don't invite Fantasia back to reprise what she sang on Idol back in Season 3, Shigned, Shealed, Delivered......
