American Idol, Season 5 **Official Discussion Thread** Part 2

QUEEN WILL BE NEXT WEEKS THEME!!!!

They are one of my favorite bands!! I can't wait. I know some them will do the group justice. While other will totally tank.

Now about this week:

Taylor: Really disappointed in his performance. You could really tell, that this is not his type of music. But I still love the voice so he got my vote!

Mandisa: I thought she did a good job. And I think she sings well be it her upper of lower registers. She also got some votes thrown her way be me.

Ellliot: Not a fan, never have been, never will be. I LOVE Garth Brooks and Elliot masacered this song. I can not wait for him to go home.

Paris: Still not a fan, and tonight didn't help the cause. It seemed like she just could not make up her mind what tune she wanted to sing the song in. Another one that I can't wait to see go.

Ace: I haven't voted for this guy in quite some time. But my dialing finger was working over time for him tonight. For me he was one of the best performances of the night. I only hope he will be able to do the same thing next week.

Kellie: Not a fan, never have been, never will be. Yes, she did quite well tonight. But unlike Carrie Underwood, Kellie proved tonight that she can only sing one thing. And if you ask me she doesnt to it that well. Another one that I hope will not be around much longer.

Chris: YES! YES! YES! For me he was the best of the night! I knew that voice was there, and I am glad he was able to find a song to really show it off. Another one that I had my dialing finger working over time for.

Katharine: She also did a good job tonight. She actually showed a pulse up on the stage. She wasn't the best of the night but she was up at the top of list. I also threw her a few votes as well.

Bucky: Yes, he needs to work of pronouncing the words as he sings. But I still like his voice. And for me he was also one of the better ones tonight. I gladly voted for him as well.

I was only able to get in 2 times for Taylor, 3 times for Katharine, 6 times for Bucky, 10 times for Chris and 11 times for Mandisa. I got in the most for Ace, 28 times.

Who I would like to see in the bottom three:
Elliot
Paris
Kellie

Who I would like to go home: Kellie

No laptop last night while we were watching.

Katherine and Chris were the winners last night, vocally, with Kellie a close third, and only that far back because she should have hit a home run with Country Night and didn't.

The bottom of the pack included Mandisa for the first time, Bucky, and Taylor.

Going home? Probably Paris.

Does anyone else think that maybe some hare-brained consultant has told Taylor he should stand still instaed of doing his gyrations? I think his moves are very endearing, and it seems he NEEDS to do that as he sings. Hope he makes his way thru this week!

I for one am SO glad he stopped making those jerky moves...I found them very annoying and found it took away from listening to him sing when he was all over the place jerking around. He looked like he was having a seizure right there on stage when he was jerking around like that!

I think he should go back to who he is and not be someone he isnt....he needs to be comfortable on stage...I think we saw last night what happens when he is not....Taylor if you are reading this be yourself its why we liked you to begin with....

do you think AI has someone reading these boards or other boards???....Curious because some of the questions Ryan asks the contestants are similar to discussions on this board....hmmmm :confused3

ITA. It seems that once the handlers or coaches get hold of them, their personality changes.

We're pretty normal folks, all-in-all. If we're thinking it, so perhaps are other people, including the producers of AI! :rotfl:

I am having a seizure right now! Are you kidding! OMG this season of idol rocks!

I'll never forget Constantine's rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody - an all time Idol highlight, for me. I think many will have a hard time with that. It's a real unique special kind of music. Chris should take it all, though!

Anyway, last night....I never liked Ace whatsoever, but last night I got goosebumps. Absolutely beautiful.

And Chris took just a minute out of his time to show us that he does have quite a voice.

Taylor...come back to us baby. In fairness, nobody could make that song fun. It's like a Girl Scout singalong!

So we can Pick them apart! :lmao: Paula couldn't say "signature" that proves it right there, she is :drinking1

I agree it seemed mighty obvious. Did you hear Ryan's comment that someone over at the table has a flask? I can tell many times that Simon is annoyed with Paula. I couldn't help but wonder if that comment made by Ryan proved he was annoyed with her as well. She probably did have a flask!

So what you are saying is they thought Kellie Picler was acting too???

wow, that link takes me back! thanks - i had been trying to figure out where to find info on past contestants. i totally forgot that they used to let them sing 2 songs per show - i wish they would still do that.

They do 2 songs each for the top 4 and 5, and 3 songs each for the top 2 and 3.

Another night of high hopes and low deliveries set the stage for singers who, almost to a person, picked songs that were either too low for their voices or too high. My discouraged dissertation on the top nine.

Taylor: Ahh, Country Roads by one of my favorite singers ever. John Denver always brought a sparkle to his songs, Taylor turned it to ashes. He looked absolutely pained as he sang this classic and he joins the song was too high for his voice club.
I agreed with Simon all the way that this performance had all the polish of someone who learned it about 10 minutes before presenting on stage.
He gets a 6 for the most disappointing presentation of the night.

Mandisa: Didn’t catch the name of this lively offering but I really enjoyed it. Mandisa is just such a pleasure to watch and listen to. She seemed to have a little bit of trouble with it at the beginning but, even though I hadn’t heard this before, it did seem like a somewhat difficult song to sing. She joins the just a bit too low for her voice club but, yippee!, no screaming this week.
Just an all round fun performance, Mandisa gets an 8.

Elliott: Singing Tomorrow Never Comes?, something like that, I just found Elliott to be a bit stressed with this choice. It wasn’t the greatest song. OK, but not that good for him. I kept getting the feeling he just wished the performance was over.
Nothing special from Elliott this week and he gets a 7.

Paris: Singing How do I Live made famous by numerous people, Paris can now join the song was too low for her voice club. She also got a bit pitchy in spots. Still, I really enjoyed her animated performance and presentation of this beautiful song. She ain’t no Leann Rimes but she did a really nice job with it.
Paris gets one of the highest scores of the night with a 9.

Ace: For the first time since the Father Figure week, Ace found a perfect song for his voice. Not even the falsetto at the end could ruin this for me. I’m not a falsetto fan if you haven’t figured that out yet. Only the Bee Gees, Four Seasons and Prince should be allowed by law to do that. Anyway, Ace sang I Want To Cry. It was lovely and heart felt.
And now for a short RANT on the Judges. When the kids are singing you morons, don’t sit there talking and laughing among yourselves. They did that during part of Ace’s song and showed it on camera. Rude, rude, rude. There are times I think the three of them should just grow up! Rant Over.
Ace had his best night in weeks and he gets an 8.

Kellie: How could she fail? Singing one of my favorite country songs and straight out of the back woods, Kellie was pretty much spot on. My only complaint was that they cut out so much of the lyrics (this is a family show) that it would have been hard to follow the story of the song if you hadn’t heard it before. Nevertheless, despite joining the song was a bit too low for her voice club, she did a fine job.
Kellie gets a 9.

Chris: Chris finally gave us a screamless performance. For the first time I really got a chance to hear what his voice actually sounds like and it sounds quite good. I was less than impressed with the song choice though. He also gets to join the song was too low for his voice club.
Nothing special but it was nice seeing a softer side to Chris, he gets a 7.

Katharine: Strange song that had me trying to find the rhythm. I found myself listening with my eyes closed because watching her causes me to get vertigo. Will someone just nail this girl to the stage?!!!
Just OK for me, she gets a 6.

Bucky: Didn’t know the song and didn’t think it was all that great. His vocals were alright but he gets to be the final member of the song was too low for his voice club. I just found the performance boring. Actually, by now, I found most of the show boring and it wasn’t the music. There isn’t one person this year I really look forward to seeing every week.
Oh well, back to Bucky. Not bad, not good, he gets a 6 for showing up in that hat!

Who I voted for from the most to the least:
Mandisa
Paris
Kellie – tried but couldn’t get through.
Ace – tried but couldn’t get through..

Who I think will be going home:
Elliott
Bucky
Taylor

Who I want to go home:
Katharine
Bucky

As always, JMHO!

Looking back at teh tape of last night, Taylor actually looked angry at a couple of points when the backup singer was singing. It was like he could tell that she was souring his voice with the bad harmony. Do they have any choice in the arrangements as far as when/who and where they have backup singers? He should have asked to sing it without backup. It still would not have been his best night by far but it wouldn't have been the cringefest it was. And since when do they give more airtime to the fiddle player than the singer on this show anyway?

Lauri was trying to figure out what bothered her about Chris when he was singing. Not that she doesn't like Chris, because he's in her top 2, but she keeps saying something bugs her about him when he's singing and she can't put her hand on it. Then last night it hit her. He stares dead into the camera, head tilted to the right and practically never blinks through the entire song, even on a ballad like last night. Lauri kept saying she wanted to take the TV and tilt it on it's side so she could get rid of his head tilt. :rotfl2:

I'm liking the Dialidol results this morning. I hope it goes down just like that.

Regarding Taylor looking angry: He tends to look that that in many of his songs. He gets this frown expression that isn't really meant to be a frown. He sure didn't look angry at the end. With all his clapping and jumping around, I'm pretty sure he thought he nailed it.

Unfortunately, he won't get a taste of the bottom three to smarten him up. He really just went on vacation this week.

Personally I thought they all stunk up the place last night. My favorites are Taylor and Katherine, so I voted for them as much as I could to keep them on, but I think the only one who is "safe" is Chris. I just cringed at their song choices. Kellie sounded good...but "Fancy"...sigh...there are so many great country songs out there that can crossover and this isn't a country music competition. I still think Mandisa should have sung some Linda Rondstadt. Oh well...after being sorely dissapointed in tonight's show I switched over to Nashville Star and saw some REAL talent! Kristen sang the same song as Paris last night and BLEW PARIS out of the water!!

NOT ME! Mandisa is probably the only one I look forward to seeing each week. She has the highest average out of all of them on the Virgo scale. :teeth:

Wow - it was another disappointing night for me - I did think Kellie did better - almost as good as her audition. (I haven't thought she has sung all that well throughout)...I also thought Paris sounded like she was holding her nose at some points in her song....I can't even begin to predict who will be voted off!

Wow, dialidol has some surprising results on there. I don't think those 2 are the bottom 2 though. I would put Bucky and Paris in the bottom 2. but that is JMHO.

It's getting tougher and tougher every week to choose who should go home. The playing field is pretty close this year.

Yeah, I've seen that normal angry/pained look he usually gets but there was just something when the backup singer started - he cut his eyes over and just looked so frustrated, which I didn't see him act quite that way during the other parts of the song when it was just him singing. If I could put a caption on it, it would have said "Will you PLEASE shut up?" :rotfl:

I have opinions on who sang good and who sang bad last night and I have favorites too and my opinion of them doesn't change from week to week even if they have a bad night or a bad song, I'm loyal that way...so I always vote the same.

My favorites are Katharine and Chris, then Kellie and Taylor.

I do not like Mandiza, Paris, Elliot, Bucky or Ace.

I vote for Katharine and Chris.

Last night this is what I thought of their singing:

Taylor: Bad song for him and I couldn't stand the backup singer...I think she ruined it for him. I still thought he was great though.

Mandisa: HORRIBLE! YUCK! Shania she ain't!

Elliott: Not bad; made it his own but Garth is MUCH better.

Paris: YUCK! Too deep a voice for this song but that was the best she ever looked.

Ace: This was his best song ever but he's still not a very good singer and he needs a haircut! When he wears those hats, you can see how handsome he is but with that hair, yuck.

Kellie: Great song, great job but IMHO, she's not as good as Carrie Underwood (or Reba) but she's got a great personality.

Chris: Nice to hear him sing a regular, soft, slow song and not scream.

Katharine: I love her. She sings any song great; even a dumb one like that. I love Faith Hill but I hadn't heard that song before.

Bucky: Sorry but he doesn't nothing for me. I can understand a word he sings. He mumbles.
