American Idol, Season 5 **Official Discussion Thread** Part 2

Most of the time I agree with Simon. Sometimes he is using his reverse psychology on the viewers. He knows the raw numbers. He knows, most likely, who will be the top 2 or 3.

I don't like the bickering. It's not funny. It's annoying.

You know, AI doesn't know we hate it if we don't tell them. I found this email on the website:

idol.web@fox.com

Do you think that is who we should complain to? If so, I'll shoot off an email this morning.

Thank You!!!

I loved Chris just as much the second time!
Taylor should have done "Thank God I'm a Country Boy"!

Or maybe Taylor should have done "Grandma's Feather Bed".

I saw Kellie's eyebrows also. Looked like she had a bad case of the mexican jumping beans. :lmao:

My take on this week's performances:

Taylor - Country Roads - Ok, it's impossible for me to be impartial when he is singing that song (see my signature), so let me just say that I have now definitively determined that Taylor is what the child would look like if Jay Leno and George Clooney were able to have a baby together. :teeth:

Mandisa - Any Man of Mine - :scared1: Umm...yeah, that was REALLY bad. When Shania sings that song, it's got a certain sexiness to it (and that's just in her voice), and that was totally missing from this "performance". Not sure if it will result in her being booted, but it was definitely one of the worst of the night.

Elliott - If Tomorrow Never Comes - Ok, this is another one I'm going to have a hard time being impartial about, since it's one of my favorite songs ever, but in my honest opinion, he completely butchered it. I wasn't a fan of his before, but now I'm actively hoping he gets booted just for doing that to a truly beautiful song.

Paris - How Do I Live Without You - I'm partial to the LeeAnn Rymes version as opposed to the Trisha Yearwood rendition, but I still think Paris did a pretty decent job. Probably the best of the night to this point. Also, her look was really good this week...she should stick with that. Also, I can TOTALLY see Simon's comment about Deion Warwick, but cracked up when he didn't get the "applause" he thought he would for that comment (just too young of an audience :teeth: )

Ace - Tonight I Wanna Cry - Not a big Ace fan, but he did pretty good with an excellent song choice. Still, people talk about Chris being a one-trick-pony, but I've yet to see pretty boy here do anything but whine into the camera song after song. Wouldn't mind seeing him gone, even though he did do a decent job with this Keith Urban song.

Kellie - Fancy - Actually, I thought Kellie did an excellent job with this, which surprised me a little. Reba has such a distinct sound that anyone else singing her stuff usually comes off as a pale imitation, but I thought she pulled it off pretty well. (Oh, and one little note...I am willing to bet that there are fewer than 3 restraunts within a 100 mile radius of where Kellie lives that actually serve calamari...so maybe you guys could lighten up on the oh-so-superior attitudes just a little :wave2: )

Chris - Memories of Us - Nice, but not the Chris I like best. He could have still shown his versatility with a slightly more uptempo song. But he did at least show that he has quite a bit of talent, which should shut up some of the detractors (though it probably won't).

Katherine - You Bring Out the Elvis in Me - If it weren't so corny, I would have to admit to a serious case of "McPheever" :teeth: Between the sultry sound of her voice and the smokin' hot looks...Besides, I figure her fan base was out in force on the phone lines last night. I know that 'cause I think I was able to get through about twice for her after calling quite a few times.

Bucky - The Best I Ever Had - Could have done a helluva lot better, and did do better with a country song just last week. Not my favorite performance from him, and for the first time I actually thought he was mumbling through some of the lyrics. Still think he's got a lot of potential, but he's got to keep improving.

Top 3 (not including Taylor)
Katherine
Kellie
Paris

Bottom 3 (not including Taylor)
Mandisa
Elliott
Ace

Should be going home: Mandisa
Will be going home: Elliott

Just my $.02...

Listening to the mp3s on rickey.org really lets you listen to the flaws. I thought Paris was a lot of better than she actually was.

You're not kidding! I thought Paris was great last night but I just listened to her mp3, yikes! Now I see why some people were saying pick a note.

Bucky sounded a lot better too, I had no trouble understanding what he was saying listening to the mp3.

When it gets down to this many contestants it's hard to choose who should go home before whom. I think they are all talented.

The top 3 performances that I liked where:

Bucky - relistened to it this morning and he has such a wonderful voice - reminds me a lot of Kurt Cobain which is why he is probably my favorite this year.

Ace - for the first time since Father Figure I actually liked Ace' singing - I think he redeemed himself for another week.

Chris - I like Chris and his voice.

The bottom three to me where:

Mandisa
Paris
Elliott

Who's going home tonight: that's a hard one - I would of said Ace before his performance last night but now I just don't know.

Not true...I live in Charlotte, which is about 50 miles from Albemarle and I know of several restaurants that have calamari. ;)

Other than that, I agree with your opinions on everyone else!

I have tried over and over to read this, but for some strange reason I can't get it. I just keep getting some MSN home type page. Is there a way that you can copy and paste it? Or is it entirely too long?

You have to create a MSN login to get to the forum where it is posted. It's not family friendly and I'd surely be banned if I posted the actual column.

That's exactly what I said! It would be much more Taylor-esque. I didn't think I would, but I miss his wackiness. And I laughed at Kellie's eyebrows too!!! What was up with them?????

Personally, I think there are only three contestants who have a chance of winning this year, Katherine, Taylor and Chris. The others honestly will have a very hard time winning this competition. I see that Kellie consistantly has a lot of votes but she is to much like Carrie Underwood, and not as talented, to win this year.

So, who goes this week, well, who doesn't have ANY chance of winning this thing? Paris, no chance. Elliott, though I think he is SO talented, doesn't have a chance. Bucky, why is he even still there, he mumbles terribly. Mandisa, though an incredible singer is just to heavy to be a 'pop' star, sorry. Ace is sexy as can be but he will not be the next American Idol either.

So absolutely anyone but Katherine, Taylor and Chris can go home tonight and it won't make one bit of difference in who wins this competition.

Also, the last two week song selection has been BORING. I agree with Simon.

I wonder if the list of possible songs the contestants can sing is contibuting to this...???

AM

Perhaps he wasn't feeling that great this week. (I know Kellie was sick last week) Then, he can blame it on a bad song.

Or, possibly his strategy is to play it safe for awhile and then turn it on big time for the finale. I hope that's not it though, because his whole persona is why his fans adore him.

I was reading on another site that he should've picked "Thank God I'm a Country Boy." He could've yee-hawed and knee slapped all over the stage with that one!

I think Elliott's voice is terrible...his constant vibrato voice sounds awkward, he really murdered that country song last night...can't figure out why Simon gets so ga-ga over him. :confused3

uh..what season is going on now? i liked the season with carrie, vonzel i think this seasons cinda' flat.

Now, with some editing:

I think Bucky's voice is terrible...his voice sounds awful, he really murmered that country song last night...can't figure out why people get so ga-ga over him. :confused3

That was fun! :rotfl:

I thought Buck & Eliott were awful.
How good randy, paula & simon think he was good? :confused3

Actually none really stand out this year.

Wouldn't you think Taylor would have done a good job singing "Friends in Low Places"? I think he would have had fun with it! :woohoo:
