Amber alert- Missing 5 year old in Florida

It breaks my heart when I see Amber alerts. I hope with all my heart she is found safe and healthy.

I work for our local authority and could not believe how many sex offenders are in our area and it is one of most affluent areas of the UK.

As a previous poster said these are the ones who have been caught. Hate to think how many others are out there.

We lock our doors at night and have an alarm sound if anyone did manage to get through the door plus have cctv and am still scared when i hear any noise. our house creaks like crazy and i am forever waking up dh to ask if he heard that sound. thats why he put in the cctv so i can just turn the tv on in bed and make sure no one has entered the house.

This case has made me even more scared.

I know plenty of folks -- including my dh -- who sleep so heavily. Yes, someone could get into our house and abduct me from our bed and my dh would never wake up.

We had a gang high on PCP try to break down our front door when we lived in a tripledecker in Worcester, MA. Our bed was 3' from the front door. They tried to break it down for 15 minutes, lots of screaming and yelling, banging, wall shaking. (Luckily door was solid oak and locks were sturdy.) Dh never even flickered. Guy on third floor at opposite end of the house woke up. Not dh.

Dh snored. You could poke him, prod him, SHAKE him and he never woke up.

DD has come into our room in the night when she was little and scared. He wakes up in the morning and asks when dd got into bed. He never heard her RUN into our room, sob her story, or felt her get into the bed, heard me soothing her... nothing.

(Amazingly enough, he WOULD wake up when I used to grind my teeth in my sleep. Go figure.)

The sex offender registry can be tricky. I looked up our city and there weren't any in our neighborhood. We're close to the town line though, so I also looked up the next town over. I found out there was one living JUST over the town boundaries, literally one street away from an elementary school. But, the school was in one city and this guy lived in the other. I called the police hotline and they had no idea! The two cities didn't talk. He was actually arrested. Part of his release stipulated that he couldn't live that close to a school.

They are ruling it as an abduction. I also see where George Anthony has gone to comfort the daddy.

Of course he did I am sure it was done in a very public manner

Sorry, this is OT, but with all the mentions of offenders per location I thought everyone might be interested in this website.

You click on each one and it will show a picture and give you a list of offenses and dates, etc. There aren't any the community were we live but they are all around the kids school. Just barely over the allowed distance they can be.

Good point. Here in Mass. if a 19yo had sex with a 16yo, he would have to register as a sex offender. Even though it was a consensual relationship.

Isn't it illegal to purchase and consume tobacco products in the state of Florida if you are under 18? The girlfriend is 17 and she has a cigarette hanging out of her mouth every time I see her. Maybe if they think she's lying they can hold her on a lesser charge related to this.

I don't think she's telling the whole truth. I think she had someone over while the guy was at work and they took the little girl or she somehow sold the little girl because of a drug debt or something.

Something just doesn't add up.

Yes, and it is surprising how often it does happen. My dh actually knows someone who had sex with a girl he met at a bar who said she was 19. I guess it turned out that when she didn't go home, her parents put out a missing report and she was 16. They pressed charges and the rest is history. My thought at the time was their kid was in a bar, they should start questioning why/how she got in there since supposedly they ID at the door. This guy is a really nice guy, he was 24 at the time but he is now listed as a sex offender for his lifetime. He has not married, probably won't he said. His thinking was how do you explain something like that to your kids or someone you want to marry and their family. He just doesn't go there.

Now, I don't condone the situation at all. But, the kid didn't tell the truth from the beginning she should have some responsibility in the process, and the law should have a little leeway when dealing with that type of thing. But the law is very clear and they punish to the letter of the law. Even his lawyer told him he was sorry, but he did in fact have sex with a minor and that the rest doesn't matter since he did not make due dilligence in determinig her age at the time.

Not to take this OT, but that sad, and he has a point about having a family. His kids will probably never have any friends, because who would let their children play over there?

Sadly, no. The father, mother and father's gf are still doing national interviews (Nancy, Greta), but no significant changes in the little girl's case. The investigators have issued a statement that the believe it was an "abduction" but didn't specify why they had come to that conclusion. Police will also not confirm WHO has taken a lie detector test, nor what the results (if any) were. Both dad and gf said they were given lie detectors. Dad said the police told him he'd "passed". GF said the police hadn't really said much about her results. Chatter is now that the gf has told several different accounts on where little Haleigh was sleeping on the night of her disappearance (all 3 in one bed), (Haleigh in the same room as Misty, but not in the same bed) (Haleigh and her little brother in a different room from Misty).
