Amber alert- Missing 5 year old in Florida

I just don't know what to think about this one. I hate it, and I hope that she is found safe and sound, but the odds are that she won't be. I also have a few red flags going off about the girl friend. I don't know why, but something is not right there, lie detector or not.

Unless she was passed out on drugs or something to that nature, she would have heard or felt something as the child was removed from the bed. Then there is the brick. If a brick was thrown through a window or a door, someone would have heard that, even one of the kids could have heard that. Why would someone bring a brick in and set it by the door, unless they used it? Something is just not right about all of this.

Does anyone know how old the brother is?

I wonder if the girl got up during the night to use the bathroom and was abducted while she was away from the bed. I also wonder if whoever took the girl opened the unlocked door and put the brick on the floor to keep the door from closing - making it easier to carry the girl out. Finally I wonder if maybe someone was robbing the house and found the girl awake and decided to take her.

I sure hope they find her safe.

They didn't say anything new. They are working on the assumption she was abducted. Wouldn't comment on the polygraph results. Just a basic recap of what we already know.

I don't think anyone can blame the 17 yr gf she IS 17 she might be a heavy sleeper or she may have been sick and took some medicine there are a # of reasons why she might not have heard her being taken this is sad I just hope she is found safe and sound.....

I’m confused on why the girlfriend waited for the Dad to come home before she called 911? What was the time frame from when she woke up and realized the little girl wasn’t there from when the Dad came home? Maybe she woke up knowing the Dad was coming home soon and then realized she was gone and then just waited the 5 or so minutes until he got home to call 911?

I can see why maybe the girlfriend didn’t wake up, but if the little girl was taken straight from the bed, do you think the little brother would have woken up and made some kind of noise?

I was thinking possibly the little girl got up to go to the bathroom and was taken that way. But the Dad said that she’s terrified of the dark and doesn’t leave the room by herself when everyone else is asleep.

I have a bad feeling about this case too. So so sad.

I think it's unfair to automatically begin blaming people, we don't have enough information and I hate when innocent people have their lives destroyed by the media casting them in a guilty light. I always think back to the Australian dingo story, and many other cases like that one. These people have enough on their plate, the last thing they need is for outsiders to start pointing fingers at them.

I pray for the safe return of this little girl where ever she may be.

Nancy Grace did refer at the beginning of her show to the "babysitter" but as the show went on and she interviewed the father, it became clear there wasn't a babysitter-it was the 17 year old girlfriend who was there (not a stepmother either, like another poster mentioned.)

I do not believe the father or his gf is involved. Sadly, I believe it is going to be a child molester living really close to them. Wouldn't be surprise if it is some one that has been in their home.

Sorry, I am getting bad vibes about this whole kidnapping story.
It simply does not add up, then again many do not.

One news site is linking the mother, Crystal Sheffied, age 23, My Space site. Mom has 3 childrens photos up ~ Haleigh 5, Ronald 3, and a baby Chloe 9 mos. Not to be judgmental, but give me creeps her top song listed is 'Go Rest High On the Mountain' by Vince Gill.

I routinely wake up at least 3-4 times anight and always check on my DD6 when I wake up. I have been doing that since she was born and will continue until she is out of the house. I just can't sleep through an entire night without waking up. I can go maybe 2-3 hours, then my body wakes up. I don't think it is that uncommon.

With that said, the girlfriend could have been sleeping and waiting for the dad to come home from work and set her alarm for 2:55- she got up to greet him and went in and checked on the little girl and found her gone. The little girl could have been missing since the girlfriend actually went to bed...who knows.

I will be praying that they find her soon...and safe.

Yep - I do the same thing. I wake up every 2-3 hours and always check on my little girl.

Why did the 17 year old girlfriend refer to the missing child as "my daughter" when calling 911?

From the CNN website:

Ronald Cummings shares his double-wide trailer with Croslin, daughter Haleigh and 4-year-old son in the town of Satsuma. He said that when he returned home at 3 a.m. ET, he was surprised to see his girlfriend awake and asked her why she was up.

"She said, 'Your back door's open and your daughter's gone,' " Cummings told Nancy Grace on her show on CNN's sister network HLN on Wednesday night.

Croslin waited until Cummings came home to phone 911 about the girl's disappearance, though it's unclear how long that wait was.

Seriously... people don't see anything suspicious at all about this?

I agree. It makes me think of the Dowallaby case. Jaclyn's parents (mother/stepfather) spent time in prison and the only thing they were guilty of was not waking up when their daughter was abducted from her bed! So so sad. I hope this little girl is found safe!

Oh, so so sad. I hope she is safe and that her kidnappers will have a change of heart and let her go home.

This case sound so much like the Jessica Lunsford case. Where the sex offender came into her house and abducted her, raped her and killed her.

I hate the fact that in today's world, the parents are the first suspects. I understand the need to rule out the closest first, but how difficult and frustrating it must be for innocent parents! I hope they did pass their lie detector tests and I hope they continue to cooperate with the police.

Please Lord, help lead the police to that little girl.

I was thinking the same things. So much like Jessica Lunsford. You can tell the father had nothing to do with this. Unlike Casey Anthony or other parents who killed their own children. Heartbreaking.

My DH will never move there. Watch Americas Most Wanted and you will see why. It's a great place to visit though!!

DH's friend tells us this all the time. He has a home in FL. Is is statistically true or is it just b/c of a couple of recent incidents we see in the media?
