Amber alert- Missing 5 year old in Florida

Over here in the UK about a year ago a child when missing, the mother made all the usual pleas to bring her back etc. It turned out that she had got someone (a male friend!) to kidnap her daughter in the hope that our national newspapers would put up a huge reward (there were huge rewards put up in the Maddy Mcann case) and then have the person that kidnap her turn up with her saying they had found her in the street and then share the reward.

It was very convincing but some of the mother's friends said that when the cameras were not on the mother did not seem that bothered. Again it was a very disfunctional family. The mother had many children with a lot of different men. The biological father of the child was distraught and she must have put him through hell

The little girl was found about six weeks later by the police hidden in the base of a bed following a tip off by neighbours.

I was just wondering if in the US this could happen because I too can't see how you can get married etc when your child has been taken, but could do so if you actually really knew she was safe and therefore had no need to be worried.

did anyone see the gf's (or wife now, I guess) response to Meredith Viera on the Today show, when she asked her why her story had changed? The girl just kind of sat there blankly...and than Meredith said, you do admit that your story changed? The gf said "yes" and when Meredith asked why...the gf just sort of shrugged her shoulders and said "i dont know". It was a very awkward moment.

I havent really kept on top of this story....but what were the changes in the girls story???

The girlfriend originally said she put Haleigh in her bed with her, but now says that Haleigh was put to bed on "her bed" (which was a crib mattress on the floor next to the bigger bed).

Yes, they both do. The sad thing about it is HE seems to be a better liar than she is. Her demeanor is one of a easily controlled person without a mind of her own and he seems like the type who prefers that kind.


She got upset about the interrogator because he was MEAN to her??? Or was he so good at it she couldn't keep her story straight? When you have the truth on your side no amount of interrogation can shake you, only if you have to remember what you said last.

It seemed so scripted. Like neither one of them really wanted to be there. They weren't holding hands, weren't even looking at each other when they said their vows.

I thought it was more strange that Misty (the girlfriend) had a huge grin on her face. I can't see how you could possibly even think about being married at a time like this unless their lawyers thought it would be in their best interest.

I've been keeping quiet about this case because I don't like accuse people because it happens far too often when innocent people are accused in cases like this, but I have to say that when the Meredith gave the dad a chance to tell people what to do if anyone see's his daughter he was shrugging as he mumbled which seemed like strange behaviour to me. I've obviously never been in this situation so I don't know what a normal response would be but he seemed as though he didn't think anyone would find her, perhaps because he knows where she is? I don't know, I hope this is solved soon.

What do you all think of the interview with Haleigh's real mother? She sounds like and has experiences like the typical battered woman. Ronald is undoubtedly a control freak who only can deal with young girls so he can control them. The new one looks like she's in a trance?

I wouldn't doubt that he has been/is abusive to women. But I'm not sure that means anything more than just that. If anything I think it gives the real mom more motive to "protect" Haileigh. There just is something not right with her demeanor. To me, she seemed very defensive.

Just started reading this thread and wanted to put my 2 cents in. I have no doubts that everyone involved is crazy. They all have their issues. I am just not too sure about the mother. She has made allegations before about others that were not true, she made police reports and then had to say she was lying. I am sure the father hit the kids, it does not mean that he does not love them (please know I do not condon this behavior at all and would never hit my own but then I am not crazy like them, just crazy in my own way, LOL) I feel for them all and I can not imagine what they are going through but I do not believe any of them had anything to do with it. You look at cases past where kids were taken, Elizabeth Smart, and her family was trashed by the media and everyone else. Also the parents (can't remember their names) but their daughter was taken by someone and they had their son taken away from them and the father ended up in jail. It has to be hard to hear people saying that you are a suspect when you are already going through so much. NO matter how crazy they are, they still miss their daughter and you can see that. The father said he married the girl because that is what Hayle wanted and they wanted her to come home to that. Now , I could never do that. It would be the farthest thing from my mind but then I don't think like them either. So it may seem sane to them. You have to remember what kind of people you are dealing with here and know that they have a whole different way of thinking but that does not mean they killed anyone.

The little girl's bio Mom is now saying that the bio Dad has physically abused both Haleigh and Ron Jr.

As much as I think the family is crazy, I don't buy into the Mom's allegations. She doesn't seem credible to me.

Mom is a skank that gave up her kids and cares more about her car

BUT...dad did admit to hitting Haleigh "just like social services says you can" Wowzer.

The child has Turner's Syndrome and is developmentally delayed and has been hospitalized many, many times. Why hit her at all?

a different couple has been questioned and now a "credible" sighting has been reported on Nancy Grace. I hope she is alive.....and ok.

My current guess to why they got married was to look more "stable" since the ex-wife is trying to gain sole custody of the other child.

Ronald supposedly said to a report (about Misty) that "he wanted to keep his friends close and his enemies closer" just recently. That was said on Nancy Grace.

After the 911 call and the fact that he's passed his polygraph tests, I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt at this point.

With the sighting of the baby in Mass and her brother living not far from the scene of the sighting, I think Misty is the key to the entire thing.

And I'm excited just a bit; she might be alive and they might find her. Supposedly FL and MA cops are there and investigating. They won't confirm or deny anything other than they are investigating but after Caylee Anthony, that sounds like a good thing.

I haven't been following this much recently. I know Misty failed the polygraph. Is she a suspect now?

I really hope that sighting is the poor little girl.
