Am I wrong?

At lunch today I went to Long John Silvers. The lady accidentally handed my order to the car in front of me. In order for him to realize his order was wrong, he had to open the little boxes they put the food in. Well, when I got to the window I asked if that was the bag they had mistakenly handed to the car in front of me. She said it was. I then said that I would like a fresh order. She looked at me like I had 3 heads! I'm sorry but I'm not going to eat after someone I don't know has already opened my food box!

I would have done the same thing

No you are not wrong

As a mater of fact I would have demanded that you get a free dessert, and a coupon for a free meal at your next visit

That of course is just me

I totally agree with you. Ick! I think it was wrong of them to try and pass it off to you.... they should have apologized for the delay, explained that there was a mix up, and then processed your order with new food..............P

I also would have done the same thing. I wouldn't want something that someone else has touched. I would request a fresh new order, as it was their mistake, not yours.

Nope, you weren't wrong.

100% wrong of them.

As a rule - any food that goes over the counter/through the drive through window...then comes BACK into the kitchen because it is wrong (or whatever) MUST be thrown away. It cannot be re-served.

I worked in fast food for 6 years...trust me.

Not wrong at all. Besides the "ick" factor, you have no idea what might have happened to the food before it was handed back. Probably nothing at all, but better safe than sorry. You did the right thing, despite the drive-thru clerk's reaction. (I might have asked the clerk if they'd eat that food if they were in your position!)

No you were not wrong at all! And I agree with MB. I think I would have been a little more outspoken about it!

I was under the same impression as Stinkerbelle - once the food is served to a customer (the right one or the wrong one), it is not allowed to be re-served, no matter what the reason!

You were perfectly right in asking for fresh food.

I thought monkeyboy was being sarcastic about the other things he would have asked for (at least I hope). The server may have looked at the OP funny but it doesn't sound like she refused to give the OP fresh food. Why is she entitled to more than what she paid for?

Though I agree with all of the above, you were definitely in the right to ask for fresh food!

The same reason at a restuarant when your food comes out wrong or not up to par with what you ordered. The restuarant shoud take it back and apologize with something else.

Not following proceedure would be a huge one. Passing food to the next person that has been touched by another is DISGUSTING!:crazy2:

I think she meant "more outspoken about it" meaning...what the place was doing was WRONG. Once one customer touches food - you cannot serve it to someone else. And they did it like it was no big deal...the OP was very smart to catch the slipup at the window!

Not being sarcastic at all.
She paid for food, and like anywehere if not up to her expectation, she should get what she wanted.

She did get fresh food, that problem solved

Now I am assuming she did drive thru take oit to save time. Now the OP must wait extra time (out of a busy schedule I assume by her name) to get said new/fresh food.

So to compensate her for loss of time, She could have asked for all of these things.

I would have.

Maybe I'm just an easy customer but if they mess up my meal in a restaurant and I let them know and they fix it, it's no big deal to me. I certainly don't expect a free dessert or a free meal! I agree that if you cared enough you could say something about their practices and an apology is in order, but I'm not sure why everyone expects a freebie for every little thing that happens.

Well, I guess that is the difference. I would never consider that a little mistake! That is gross!

It's gross if they refuse to give you fresh food. If you get fresh food, what's gross about it?

Personally I'd be happier if a manager came over and said "we're sorry, that's not our policy and we'll make sure it doesn't happen again."

So you're entitled to like $10 worth of stuff for the 5 min it takes to get a fresh order? I wish someone would pay me $120/hr for my time!

You definitely were not wrong. Trying to hand over food that's been touched by someone else is just plain gross. I would suggest you call the store manager and let him/her know what happened so the employee can be re-trained. If you don't get an appropriate response from the manager, call the Board of Health Department to report it, and let the manager know you are going to do this.
