Am I the only one that hates the beach?

I am not a beach person. This is another reason I love Disney. My parents have a house in Sea Isle NJ I love being there on the bay but not the beach. I would not vacation on a Island unless it was free. :sunny: :beach:

I don't like hanging out on the beach but I do love to take a walk and listen to the waves sometimes. Plus I enjoy boats and beach towns.

So my answer is yes and no. ;)

OK beach haters I just have to jump in here and make a few comments. Going to the beach is like going to Disney...you absolutely must go prepared or you won't have a good time. Here are a few tips:
Check the weather the night before. If it is going to be windy, do not go. Blowing sand is not enjoyable, as others have mentioned. Nothing over 15 mph.
Go early. Be one of the first ones in the parking lot. Not only will this ensure the shortest walk, but the beach early in the morning is one of natures most beautiful scenes.
Travel light! Don't bring all that stuff with you, you don't need it! Just like at Disney, people lug too much stuff around. Only bring the absolute essentials!
Don't bring food and coolers. Ugh, who needs to carry that? Bring a water and snack per person, you aren't going to die if you can't have a sandwich with all the fixins.
Go for a walk. Talk to whoever you came with. I guarantee you, it will make you closer. (especially good advice for a parent and teen)
Go in the water. It makes you feel like a kid and refreshes you from the heat.
Leave early (around noontime). You will make someone happy to give them your parking spot, and you will be home with a whole afternoon in front of you.
Take a shower right away to wash off that sand. Admire your sunkissed look, put moisturizer on, and smell your skin. Ahhh, your day at the beach. Try it!! :)

Love it. I like to smell it, see it, feel it. I like to sit on the deck of my accomodations and watch the surf roll in. I like the seagulls scream, I like the children playing. It makes me feel so relaxed that I have trouble moving at all. The beach makes me like jello-a big blob. Love it.

I don't get how anyone can not love the beach :confused3 We spend 5-6 days a week there all summer and vacation in beach locales during the year. Can't get enough.

The beach is one of those things that is wonderful in theory, but not in real life.

I love the beach, but it has to be a Hawaiian or Floridian beach. I'm in Virginia now and it just isn't the same.

Count me in! I am not a sun bather, so I go to swim. I've only been twice and I was not impressed at all. I did like playing in the waves, but that's it. I hate the taste (can't help but taste it when it hits you in the face over and over), the smell, the feel, and I'm always worried I'm going to step on something or something is going to step on me. (or worse) :guilty:

Love the sound of the waves crashing on the shore. Love playing in the waves. Love looking for shells. Love walking on the shoreline ankle deep in the water.

Hate sand blowing in the wind every time I go to the beach the wind is blowing hard. Hate getting sunburned every time no matter how much or how often I put on sunscreen. I don't eat on the beach that just wouldn't be feasible. Sand and food do not mix.

So I like some aspects and dislike others. I think I would be better off in the late spring or autumn instead of being at the beach in summer.

this time of year when the theme parks are packed, we spend one weekend day on a beach each week. we pack a picnic lunch (not to mention the beer) and then watch the sunset over the Gulf and go to dinner.

we love to take our two dogs to the dog beach at Ft. DeSoto and let them play. they swim and run around with the others, it's very relaxing.

I hate the beach.

Yeah. It's pretty to look at. But, if you're not into beach sports or laying out, then it's boring!

I don't like swimming with fish and other creatures (besides humans) or seaweed. I hate the salt, I hate trying to fight the waves.

I also don't tan and usually just burn (with no resulting tan afterwards). As a result, I don't lay out.

So, there isn't much for me to do at a beach. ;)

I forgot to say how much I love the sounds of the beach. The waves crashing in a pulsing, soothing roar. The gulls. Sitting peacefully in the shade of my shelter with my eyes closed, perhaps the skim of a wave cooling my feet. Looking down and watching the bubbles of sealife digging into the sand, a small crab scampering or a new shell washed up only to be taken away or covered in the next wave. My husband and I walking, him in the deeper water, I in the wet sand sometimes our fingers touching. Laughing, talking or silently communicating. No cares. I love the beach.

I love the beach too but can't stand the Jersey shore. Growing up in NJ my parents never took us. We would spend summer vacations in ME and MA. The Mass beach was a beach club that my GPs belonged to. It was private. You park the car, walk across a one lane road into the bath house where you can change, etc., pick up the chairs, toys, etc. that you have stored in the bath house, walk down the steps right onto the uncrowded sand. aaahhhh peace. Sit, walk, play and romp in the waves. This is the life. Recently took DD to visit cousins at same beach and remembered why I love it. :cloud9:

However, the Jersey shore is full of people by 9 a.m., radios blaring different music, you are sitting on top of each other, and you can listen to the lovely sounds of roller coasters, people screaming and smelling pizza. Sorry, Jersey girl most of my life but still can't get into the Jersey shore scene. :confused3

I have no interest in going to the beach. The last time we sat on the beach was when we took a cruise on the Big Red Boat in 1991 with our then four year old son. I enjoy a water view, but I have no desire to actually sit on the beach or go in the water.

WOW!! I am AMAZED at all the beach haters here! I didn't even think that that could be possible for someone to hate the beach!

I am in love with the beach, any beach! There's something about the sight of water that instantly relaxes me. The waves are lulling, the smell of the ocean is alluring, the warmth of the sun is intoxicating. It doesn't matter how hot the temps are, there is always a breeze at the ocean. I love the feel of the sand, walks along the shoreline, boogie boarding in the waves... The list could go on and on. The only thing I don't like is getting a mouthful of salt water! LOL!

I am not a beach person at all. I can handle it for a day, maybe two, but it is not my idea of a vacation. I HATE, HATE, HATE the sand and refuse to go in any water that I can't see my feet in. All in all, the beach is just a huge pain.

That being said, I like to see the beach/ocean, hear the ocean and smell the ocean. I enjoy the boardwalk and Atlantic City; can do all of the above without actually touching the sand. Plus there is lots to do. However we rarely go since it is so expensive and I would rather use that money for Disney vacations.

I don't like the beach either. I hate sand. It's fine for a little bit but spending all day at the beach, no way! Sandy food, sandy hands when you reapply sunscreen, wind, too crowded and boring! Just laying around in the hot sun doing nothing is boring! Of course with kids you have to watch them like a hawk and if they are still little you have to be right there with them.

yep, beach, no thank you.

Add me to the list of beach-haters! I love to look at the ocean and hear the waves, but to spend a day at the beach - YUK! :scared: The sand blowing around and sticking to your sunblock, can't relax when you have kids because you have to watch them constantly so they don't go out too far and get caught in a riptide, all the seaweed and who knows what else in the water....it's just not how I want to relax at all!

That's exactly how I feel!

I like the beach, but I certainly don't love the beach!

I like to stay in an oceanfront condo or hotel with an oceanfront pool. This way I stay sand free but can still look out at the beautiful shoreline. After 3-4 days, I'm ready to head inland. There's only so much staring out at the ocean I can take!
