OK beach haters I just have to jump in here and make a few comments. Going to the beach is like going to Disney...you absolutely must go prepared or you won't have a good time. Here are a few tips:
Check the weather the night before. If it is going to be windy, do not go. Blowing sand is not enjoyable, as others have mentioned. Nothing over 15 mph.
Go early. Be one of the first ones in the parking lot. Not only will this ensure the shortest walk, but the beach early in the morning is one of natures most beautiful scenes.
Travel light! Don't bring all that stuff with you, you don't need it! Just like at Disney, people lug too much stuff around. Only bring the absolute essentials!
Don't bring food and coolers. Ugh, who needs to carry that? Bring a water and snack per person, you aren't going to die if you can't have a sandwich with all the fixins.
Go for a walk. Talk to whoever you came with. I guarantee you, it will make you closer. (especially good advice for a parent and teen)
Go in the water. It makes you feel like a kid and refreshes you from the heat.
Leave early (around noontime). You will make someone happy to give them your parking spot, and you will be home with a whole afternoon in front of you.
Take a shower right away to wash off that sand. Admire your sunkissed look, put moisturizer on, and smell your skin. Ahhh, your day at the beach. Try it!!
