Am I the only one that goes to a movie just to see the movie

Oh brother, I'm with you.
Maybe, just maybe its about a white dude saving the day because its written by a white dude. If an african american/hispanic/asian or any race I haven't covered wants to save themselves, or have one of their own save everyone else, write your own movie. Otherwise just let people go and watch and enjoy it without making it into something bigger than just entertainment.

Nope. I like going just to enjoy it, not to pick it apart like the movie critics or others do. I can't stand that.

I don't see anything wrong in finding significance for one's self in whatever you engage in. I can go hiking and find significance in the arrangement of the cracks in a rock, and that should be okay.

The problem here is not recognizing that when you find significance, the vast majority of what that says is about yourself. The seeing of significance is often far more insidious than the crafting.

I go to the movies for enjoyment. I hate and do not pay to see preachy movies.

This is why racism will never die. People keep fabricating it where it doesn't exist.

I think that some people think their life has no meaning unless it is being oppressed. That is very sad.

Nope you aren't the only one. I pay for the movie to be entertained, not to pick it apart.

Yeah, me too! I go to a movie just for the entertainment of the movie. I can't stand it when people pick it apart! Everyone is going to see different meanings/thoughts/emotions in a movie. It drives me crazy to hear about 'this group who thought that was racist' or 'that group who thought the movie had some other underlaying meaning'...IT IS A FRICKIN MOVIE! Movies are ment to entertain people...These idiots who go and pick them apart are going to LOOK for problems, not going for entertainment!

....unless its blatant.

No, not "blatant", since that's really a subjective judgment... but perhaps deliberate -- yes.

Now the Vatican has an issue with Avatar

http://movies.yahoo.com/news/movies.ap.org/vatican-says-avatar-no-masterpiece-ap

VATICAN CITY - "Avatar" is wooing audiences worldwide with visually dazzling landscapes and nature-loving blue creatures. But the Vatican is no easy crowd to please.

The Vatican newspaper and radio station are criticizing James Cameron's 3-D blockbuster for flirting with the idea that worship of nature can replace religion — a notion the pope has warned against. They call the movie a simplistic and sappy tale, despite its awe-inspiring special effects.

and not read racial, gender, political undertones in everything? I just go and enjoy the movie.

Some see racist theme in alien adventure 'Avatar'

I'm actually starting to feel pretty stupid. I mean, I'm a minority and I didn't see any thing derogatory about it. Was I too stupid to get it and I'm Catholic and can't figure out why the Vatican has it's collective robes all in a knot. :confused3

I thought it was a cool movie, long but prett interesting.

I watch movies because I enjoy mindless entertainment. Sometimes I am ok with moral dilemmas, such as was the case with District 9 and Gattaca. I see nothing wrong with a film that challenges the way I think about things, as long as it leaves room & respect for opposing points of view created by a point - counter point arrangement. However, I get really angry when I am dragged into a film of some kind whose intent is to lopsidedly manipulate my perceptions, and this anger is amplified when it happens to be a kid's oriented film. IMO the worst offender this year was Walll-E. It was so over the top that afterwords I felt I had to have a conversation with my kids about propaganda. For heavens sake, why don't they just leave the kids alone and let them develop their OWN thoughts??? Sheesh, whatever happened to 'stranger danger' as the underlying focus of a kids' story? What happened to 'friendship' as the whole point of the story? Gimme "Toy Story", "Little Mermaid" or "Goofy Movie" any day but keep the other stuff out of my kids' world because it doesn't belong there.

Not often. Usually if I'm going to the movies it's because I think the film will have something to say to make it worth seeing. Unless I'm going specifically for brain candy (and even then it's hard not to think about what's being communicated), I expect there to be some "meat" to the story.

Otherwise I just sat in the dark for two hours with obnoxious strangers and watched images flash on a screen. :confused3 As much as I love Junior Mints, I can do that at home for free.

I go to just watch the movie. I actually hate going to the movies with anyone who has to point out why something wouldn't work or that it's wrong... DUH! it's not real, no **** Sherlock, let me enjoy watching something entertaining and stop picking it apart.

I go strictly for entertainment. I enjoy most movies. I see people post all the time movies they didn't like and I did! LOL! I'm easily entertained I guess!:goodvibes
