I watch movies because I enjoy mindless entertainment. Sometimes I am ok with moral dilemmas, such as was the case with District 9 and Gattaca. I see nothing wrong with a film that challenges the way I think about things, as long as it leaves room & respect for opposing points of view created by a point - counter point arrangement. However, I get really angry when I am dragged into a film of some kind whose intent is to lopsidedly manipulate my perceptions, and this anger is amplified when it happens to be a kid's oriented film. IMO the worst offender this year was Walll-E. It was so over the top that afterwords I felt I had to have a conversation with my kids about propaganda. For heavens sake, why don't they just leave the kids alone and let them develop their OWN thoughts??? Sheesh, whatever happened to 'stranger danger' as the underlying focus of a kids' story? What happened to 'friendship' as the whole point of the story? Gimme "Toy Story", "Little Mermaid" or "Goofy Movie" any day but keep the other stuff out of my kids' world because it doesn't belong there.
