ALOHA! The Polynesian Resort Information Thread: Summer 2011 Edition!

ditto ,I was going to say the same thing about big doins at the Poly .I just hope its after my vacation in January:confused3

Oh dear, what the heck is going on??? We are booked for Jan. 2012, but if there's going to be major construction that might just be the push I need to try the Beach Club or CR. I hope he lets us in on the secret soon...I hate the suspense!

I just booked our Poly stay for Jan. 8-15!! :cool1: I am really hoping that an AP rate comes out and we can get it a little cheaper because those rates have gone way up in 3 years :scared1:. Even with the AAA rate, it still stings. Oh well, I'm sure that I will forget all about that once we check in. It will be the first trip for my youngest and I can't wait to see the look on his face when he sees the castle for the first time!!

I'm sure there are lots of new things to know since our last visit so I'm looking forward to being a part of this thread! :thumbsup2

How exciting :yay:.

When even my dad (not the hugest fan of Disney) said the resort was extraordinarily amazing and he really enjoyed himself there I knew it was a hit! My plan to get them hooked with a CL stay at the Poly worked. :scratchin I even caught him saying "next year..." at the airport yesterday. :rotfl:

Better to be sick before than during! I came down with a sinus infection that turned into bronchitis during our trip. at least I still have another 5 days off from work to recover. I hope you are in tip top shape for your trip! :goodvibes

Nice job getting dad hooked on the Poly :goodvibes. I'm sorry you were sick during your trip.....hope you're feeling better . Enjoy the next 5 days off work ;).

10 days from today we'll be checking into our CL TPV room ...

We're leaving our house in 2 1/2 hours! (I'm leaving work in about 20 minutes). We're off to Buffalo tonight (yum, Cracker Barrel for dinner) and then we're flying out bright and early! I'll be arriving at the Polynesian at 10:30 a.m. for our 3rd Club Level stay :lovestruc

Safe travels.....have a great trip :dance3:.

Now, to plan next year's trip. ;)

:thumbsup2

OK kids hold onto your hats!!! Over on FB Tikiman is dropping massive hints about a BIG Poly announcement coming. He said it is "the biggest news in Poly history" and that our days "enjoying the Poly as it is are numbered!" :scared1:
hmmmmm
I will keep you posted if he spills.
I wonder if it's DVC or the old rumour that they are going to shut the resort down to flatten & rebuild the GCH?! :confused3

Oh the suspense :faint:.

I just saw Steve's tease about a major Poly announcement. If they close it down for a major rehab/teardown/rebuild that could make the decision for us of a BC or Poly stay on our next big trip.

This will be interesting......wonder what it could be :confused3.

Me too......hope some info comes out soon :goodvibes.

I'm with you as we are booked for this December :upsidedow.

Welcome home to everyone that has just returned; safe travels and wonderful trips to everyone going :banana::banana:

Now, what do you suppose Tikiman's big news is? Not fair to tease us Poly lovers. I am thinking maybe DVC, which on one hand I would love and start saving my pennies for. On the other hand, I just hope it won't ruin the charm and beauty of the Poly as it now is. What are everyone's thoughts?

We have looked into buying DVC several times in the past but never took the plunge because the Poly is our favorite resort and although points can be used for a regular room, it takes way too many of them :scared1:. With that said, if it does turn out to be DVC, we may just have to reconsider :goodvibes.

Oh God!!!! We are supposed to be returning to the Poly in June 2012!!!! Please no closure!!!!!

I am beginning to plan a trip for June 2012 for our 20th anniversary and our oldest DS's graduation and right now the Poly is the resort I'm thinking of booking. I would be very sad if I decided to go with the Poly and it got closed :sad1:.

On our trip in 2009 we went for the DVC pitch, but decided against it. We had the same problem ... we love the Poly & it takes too many points. DH surprised me a few months ago by expressing an interest in the GF DVC. Although he loves the Poly he likes the GF's proximity to the golf. Now a Poly DVC might have him singing a different tune! His favourite resort and it's still very close to the golf course. I imagine when they open it up for sales it would be a feeding frenzy though!

I just don't know where on the Poly property they would fit in some villas. :confused3

I guess I'll just watch for an announcement, and if it's DVC I'll have to start rocking the budget and begin our purchase fund!

I am really sad though at the thought that the resort might close down for a period (we are planning a return trip in Feb. 2013 after our October trip this fall). When people were speculating on Tikiman's FB he said that the news was getting crazier & crazier (i don't know if he was referring to people's theories or the actual news) and then asked if anyone had tried to book for next year or the year after. I don't know if he said that to refute that the resort would close (because people have booked) or if it was a hint that the resort was closing. :headache: I hate when people drop a crumb like this and then don't spill. If you truly can't tell, then you shouldn't have brought it up, otherwise just get on with it and tell everyone!!

maiapapaya......I agree....keep it secret until you can give the details. Too many people speculate which makes for a lot of rumors floating around :headache:. I don't know where they would put villas at the Poly either, but if it turns out to be DVC, I don't think it would be long at all before it's sold out :goodvibes. I'm getting excited thinking about it and DVC may not even be the news :rotfl:.

disneydreamin247........I'm with you......I hope it's not a closure. The volcano pool at the Poly is our favorite pool out of all the resorts we've stayed at and we would love to stay there over the GF next June :thumbsup2.

We won't be staying at the Grand again, that's for sure. I guess we would be stuck at the CR.

If the Poly closed we would stay at BC or YC for sure. HANDS DOWN. Our top 2 were those ones or the Poly. We chose the Poly for the beach/fireworks - and the fact that for us, we think it will feel like a vacation WITHIN a vacation. Would they close down a hotel that is booked already? I don't think so.....unless they could guarantee there were enough rooms at other resorts to house everyone on short notice. You'd have a lot of unhappy people though if they were SET on Poly and not flexible.....

I'm sorry you didn't like the Grand . I know you posted you liked the Poly alot better, but I didn't realize the Grand was that bad for you :(. We've never stayed at the CR as it doesn't hold any appeal to us, so our only other choice is the GF if we want the monorail......or the WL with boat transportation. We love the WL but it's hard going back to the smaller room once you've experienced the extra space elsewhere. Have you stayed at the CR before? If the Poly closed we would either go with the GF or possibly an Epcot resort. But we love the MK area and the monorail and the fact that the Epcot resorts don't have any (or should I say very limited) CS options, it would take alot for us to book over there again :sad2:.

I would have to agree with this :thumbsup2.

The rooms at the Grand were VERY small. I'd say almost, if not exactly, as small as WL.

The Grand was lovely, but it just wasn't for our family. I felt very out of place at the Grand because of DS' issues where as at the Poly no one seemed to notice at all. I also really enjoy the resort feel of the Poly. The Grand just didn't thrill us.

When I first heard the rumour about a possible closure (not from Tikiman, but months ago on the DIS) some posters were saying that Disney was waiting for the new Arts of Animation suites/resort to open and then guests would be shifted there. I'm sorry, but if I was booked at Poly and I got sent to a value I'd be majorly ticked, infact I would probably cancel. Not to disparage a value, but if someone has booked the Poly it is because they want the amenities of a deluxe, the monorail & the proximity to the MK. I don't think AoA would cut it. I think ppl would rather go to the GF, CR or WL, or an Epcot resort. As I said this was all an old rumour/discussion on the DIS and hopefully has nothing to do with what Tikiman is talking about.

Yes...we went to tour the Grand while we were there this time (now that the DDs are adults)...and my DDs agreed....they would never want to stay there either :lmao: :rotfl2:

We are Poly People :thumbsup2....we love our Poly

I know this is all pure speculation but **IF** the Poly were closed during a scheduled stay, then Disney should offer those guests a comparable resort. I would miss the Poly but I would be happy to try the CR or GF. I've been looking for an excuse to get DH to try the BC forever. If another deluxe wasn't an option then I would either postpone my trip or stay off site at the Waldorf. Of course, this is all hypothetical right? They would never do such a thing, right???

Oh wow, guess I need to go check out Tikiman's site. Sure hope the Poly will be open and fully operational for our trip next March. And I agree with others, if it's not...no way is a Value gonna cut it. I'm thinking BLT one bedroom. I'd love the 2 bathrooms and the laundry, but sure wish there were 2 actual beds....
