ALOHA! The Polynesian Resort Information Thread: Summer 2011 Edition!

Awaiting DME pickup, I see that arriving DME guests are held at the drop off escorted up to check in by a cast member.

I'm sure many of you have already seen this but I had to post it -
In Allearsnet weekly newsletter this week, they have listed, "The Top 40 Magical Events at the Walt Disney World Resort" along with Ayefour Publishing (www.ayefourpublishing.com) to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the opening of the Orlando vacation destination (October 1, 2011)."

The following Magical Event BEAT OUT the opening of Hollywood Studios (MGM), the opening of Animal Kingdom, AND the monorail. Check it out:

"Magical Event #4 -- Opening of the Polynesian Resort: October 1971

While Walt purposefully avoided building Disney World near the beach (in order to reduce vacation competition), he didn't hesitate to bring the beach to his resort. Though several other WDW beaches exist (at places such as Fort Wilderness and the Grand Floridian), none are so grand as the sand that defines the coastline of the original Polynesian Village. It is there that guests can enjoy daytime sun and evening fireworks, just outside the longhouses named after famous Pacific destinations. Yet, the Polynesian is not limited to exterior beauty, as the Grand Ceremonial House offers lush landscaping, and cascading waterfalls. Over the years, this Pacific-themed retreat has served as the preferred vacation home for guests from throughout the world."

I agree that this was a magical moment for the Poly has become my preferred Disney vacation spot!

And for those of you interested, #3 was opening of Contemporary, #2 was Opening of MK, and #1 was opening of Epcot. If you want to read all the details, check out allearsnet.com and check out their latest newsletter.

GO POLY!!!

Thanks everyone :)

it was wonderful being back at the Poly with the DH and the DDs... and...the Poly is definitely a big part of our Disney Magic :wizard:

I can't wait to go back ;)

Happy Magical vacation to all those going soon....and later

My parents have both decided that they agree with my son when he said from now in we will only stay CL at the Poly. :rotfl: We check out of the Grand tomorrow. Time to start planning for next year!

Back at work after a delightful week at the Poly. The Poly is just so lovely--the atmosphere, the CMs, all just so great. I hope everyone there is having a wonderful time!

Wow, all this gushing about the Poly is making me so excited for our first trip to WDW in three weeks. So glad I picked the Poly as our place of stay.:cool1::cheer2:

Less than 46 hours until I arrive at the Poly :goodvibes

I have literally no motivation to be productive at work today :lmao: because my mind is elsewhere thinking of how I have to pack and that I'm leaving my house in 28 hours....and in reality....10 of those hours are work...3 of them are commuting and 8 of them are sleep....so really it's 7 hours....go with me on that :P

Well the Poly gods are messing with me....6 days to go and I am just trying to get through my last 3 days of work. Well wouldn't you know it major flood (I work in a hospital) into the Information Services department and a few other areas. Thank God it missed the servers!!!!! My feet hurt and it's pouring rain here.

Everyone who is poolside right now....please have one for me!:headache:

Yikes! Just keep chanting "3 more days", "3 more days" ... then you can put work behind you and start gettin' ready for the Poly!

50 days from today we will be checking in to the Polynesian for the first time since... 1983!!! Our original reservation was at WL CL but when the AP rates came out in August I wasn't able to get the rate for WL CL and the rate was so good at Poly... But alas no CL there either. Only able to get GV. My parents are coming with us and they have the free dining promotion. We are celebrating their 50th Anniversary! I did not put any room request on our reservation...so confused as to what to request. Would really like a room with balcony or maybe on the first floor. I think we should be near the TTC to take advantage of the monorail to Epcot but close to GCH and Capt Cooks but near to the Volcano Pool - my son is 10 and my sister is 7. I am so confused as to what to request! Thought about leaving it up to chance, but don't know how I feel about that! Any suggestions??
Looking forward to staying at Poly. In our past visits we have stayed at WL 2x (CL), Coronado (upgraded to Jr. Suite), and AKL.
Debbie
