ALOHA! The Polynesian Resort Information Thread: Summer 2011 Edition!

Hi Poly Experts. We will be there in January- just a garden view room. Based on tikiman's thoughts, I asked for Tokelau longhouse. Now I am wondering if that longhouse has been renovated recently. I am sure that this information is somewhere in this very long Poly thread but I was only patient enough to read the first ten pages of posts and the last ten pages of posts. Does anyone know which longhouse was most recently renovated? I chose Tokelau for location but maybe it might be better to choose the "freshest long house." Thoughts? Thanks.

Lauren

Tokelau is one of the newer renovated longhouses. It also has some of the largest rooms and double sinks. It's my favorite longhouse...great location and view.I recommend requesting 3rd floor so you can get a balcony.

I also requested Tokelau...I thought I read that it has a patio on the first floor and that second and third floor have balconies ~ can someone confirm if that is correct?

Also, I have a couple of transportation questions ~ to take the monorail to Epcot, we can walk to TTC, is that right? What about when we take the monorail to MK? Do we go to the TTC or GCH? Also, how long is the ride? And, finally, how is the ferry ride to MK (and where do we get on)? My middle DD will be 3 on our trip, so she doesn't remember the last time we were there. Do you think we'll get a better "wow" reaction from her for her "first" time to see MK if we come in on the ferry vs monorail? thanks!

Yes, Tokelau has balconies on the second and third floors and patios on the first. Transportation wise: you can walk to TTC to get to the monorail to Epcot or take the MK monorail all the way around (if you want to scenic route). To get to MK, you can walk to GCH or TTC to catch the monorail...it just depends on which longhouse you are in or where you are on the property. The ferry ride to MK is lovely and usually about the same timing as taking the monorail, depending on when you catch it. Sometimes it can be crowded so you may have to wait for the next one. My kids like the "wow" factor on the monorail to MK for the first time, but it's a personal preference. They are both magical. :wizard:

Can you request a specific room number in a specific longhouse? This will be our first visit to the Poly!!!

I'm staying at the Poly for the first time at the end of Feb and I'm so excited! This thread has been so helpful and informative!

I'm thinking of requesting a room near the TTC. Can you get buses to all the parks and resorts from there or only certain places? Also would it be direct routes or stops at several different places?

Hello all is this still an active thread or is there a 2012 thread now available?

Still quite active. Just the name is obsolete! Any questions?

Well yeah actually I do. I am being transferred from the POR because my royal themed room will not be available on time. Any suggestions on the best garden themed rooms? I was going to see if they would do the Tuvalu building for the view of the castle.

Also is there a detailed map showing room numbers in the buildings there so you can say perhaps I wanted room ???? in Tuvalu building. Etc.

There are 3 categories of rooms: Garden View, Water View, and Theme Park View. If you are headed to a Garden View Room, I recommend requesting a 3rd floor room in the Fiji building. You get either a view looking over the western most beach and monorail, or a view looking over the marina (a water view room that counts as a garden view).

Keep in mind that requests are not guaranteed.

Make sure you check out the first page of the thread for more info like a map etc. Incidentally, the map is on post number 3.

Hope That Helps!

Thank you Carrie, you have been very nice and a great help. This will be our first POLY stay and recommendations?

Well, be prepared to get your head turned and never look back to moderate stays! My family has been ruined by the Polynesian and since there are 5 of us we do fit better in those big rooms. Plus, I love the nostalgia of it all: that Walt actually designed the resort and it was one of the first 2 to open. Things like that. Add the memories that we have made there as the kids grew up, and I was hooked!

Yeah we were hooked when we hotel hopped last year looking around checking out the other resorts. Then we found the dole-whip machine lol. I love the whole Hawaiian theme. So I definitely would be in heaven there.

Make plans to see the torch lighting ceremony, watch the EWP and Wishes from the beach, have a Lapu Lapu in a pineapple from the Tambu lounge and get a REAL COFFEE from the Kona Island Coffee Bar.

I agree with a PP. Once you drink the Poly Kool-aid LOOK OUT! :goodvibes

I may be picking your brains in the future over on the POR thread. I've been lurking over there as we are booked for a "get 3 trips out of our APs so we really shouldn't do deluxe" trip in June. I admit, I'm a deluxe snob, but POR looks so pretty! We are a legal 6 though, so I am pretty nervous about fitting in the room :scared1: especially after staying in the HUGE rooms in Tokelau at the Poly.

Its confirmed our TA put the request in for the Tuvalu and they offered it and gave us theme park view. Be there on the Feb 24 - March 3rd.

Thanks for this info, Carrie772. I am an excited transplant from POR for the same reason Venomhatch is, but I "only" got upgraded to the Poly with a Garden View. I will happily take it!

If I wanted to request the Fiji 3rd floor--and I probably will--what do you think is the best way to handle it? Call Disney Reservations and have it noted on my ressie or just wait until I arrive? Thanks for your help.

From TTC you can catch a bus to DHS and AK. Additionally, you can take the direct monorail to EPCOT.

To get to other resorts, you need to either take a cab or catch a bus from one of the theme parks. If you were going to another resort from the Polynesian, obviously, MK would be your nearest option to catch a resort bus.

If you need something more specific, ask away! :thumbsup2
