ALOHA! The Polynesian Resort Information Thread: Summer 2011 Edition!

Another gorgeous day. Poolside with a banana cabana right now watching the kids play games. Captain Cooks was clean and quick this a.m. AK was light crowds, lots of characters. Epcot tonight!:goodvibes

Can anyone tell me if the Boutiki, or any other shop at the Poly, carries Poly resort merchandise? I was hoping to get a sweatshirt or t-shirt when we travel to the Poly next week for the first time! I have heard the resorts were getting rid of resort-specifc merchandise, but I was hoping that resort-specific merchandise would come back.:goodvibes
To all at the Poly now or traveling soon- have a magical trip! My DD's and I are beside ourselves with excitement for next week! DH is jealous he couldn't make this trip!

Gotta love New England ,I live in New Hampshire and I totally agree about all weather related things .I hope you have a stress free week at the world .We are going back Jan 8th just can't waitpopcorn::

This is what I remember. They had pink Poly shirts and travel Coffee mugs. Car decals, some off white/beige Poly shirts for men but in smaller sizes. They also had great Poly Hawaiian shirts for boys and men but they only had up to a medium for Men's while we were there last week. The travel mug was nice for a woman but a bit pricey.

The one thing about Boutiki is that they seem to have new stuff come in every day :thumbsup2 So maybe when you get there they will have a bunch of new stuff!

Yup! We were there in August and we bought one of every item you mentioned except for the car decal and I did have this item in my hand but could not convince DW to place it on her car. She would have gladly done so, but she reminded me the rear windshield is angled down and it would not look quite right. I reluctlantly agreed. :goodvibes They have two different kinds of travel coffee mugs. One for the DW and one for me.

Just checking in....for all of you who just came back "welcome back", for those of you just leaving "have a magical trip", and for those of you there...."I'm jealous" :sad1: !

We have gone for the past 5 years for 10 days starting on Thanksgiving day. This year we changed it so my DSIL and DBIL could join us and went over Columbus Day weekend. It was not only crowded but we also had HORRIBLE weather. Regretting the decision now and missing the holiday season.

However, trying to focus on our June surprise trip for the entire family. My Mom just bought personalized t-shirts for the whole gang as part of the big reveal. They will also get a 2012 calendar with the countdown inside, leis from the Poly and a postcard of the Poly. Not sure yet on how we are going to pull of the big reveal at Christmas.

For my kids this will be the 7th year in a row going, but for my other nieces and nephews ranging in ages of 10 to 1 1/2 this will be the first time, but they all know about Disney from us.

Any creative ideas from any of my Poly lovers on the big reveal???

(By the way I told my kids that we are not going back for a couple of years (5 year old cried). Not talking about Disney is killing me....)

You were originally assigned to Rapa Nui? Did they tell you that at the front desk and you then requested an alternate room? Just trying to get the details so we know what we can expect (or attempt to do on our own) when we go there in April. :thumbsup2

Chiming in here as the same thing happened to us a few weeks ago.

We had a split reservation (our first night was a Room only reservation & our second reservation started on day 2). Anyway, we were originally offered a 3rd Floor Balcony room in Rapa Nui (a very nice room...last room on the 3rd Floor garden view) or a 2nd Floor (no balcony) room in Samoa. As I was really counting on a balcony, we chose the Rapa Nui room for our first night. I will agree with the pp, it was nice...big room, two sinks, and very quiet. That said, it was TOO quiet if that makes sense, at least for us. Also, the walk to the GCH and pool was pretty long - not that we couldn't have dealt with that - but we just wanted to feel more of the Poly vibe and closer to the action.

Since we had to check in the 2nd day for our new reservation anyay, the night before DH went to talk to the CM to see if there were any possibilities of changing for our 2nd reservation. The CM we were working with had only been there 2 days so had to get on the phone to see what he could get worked out for us. We were very polite about it and he did his best and giving us a couple more options. Again, he gave us the option of a 2nd Floor Samoa room (overlooking the maintenance house) or a 3rd Floor Tokelau room overlooking the quiet pool. We jumped on the Tokelau room and were so happy we did. It was absolutely perfect! Closer to the action and a great view but still quiet enough to relax. Samoa poolside might have been our ideal ipick initially, but after hearing all the music from the afternnon activities, we were glad that it worked out the way it did.

Nice! Sorry you can't talk about it, but you only have to whisper for 50 more days! Check out Youtube for ideas on disney surprises. I know there are a few that are really great!

Just made the change to the Poly for the Christmas Holiday. Can't wait.

We are also debating if we should surprise the kids or not! The past 2 years have been surprises ~ and it was so fun I think we will wait again. But it's hard!! They know we are going, but just not sure when. This way they can have a little input on restaurants and stuff. Before we had decided on a Poly stay, my oldest DD (6) saw me looking at pictures and insisted we stay at the place with the "volcano pool" next time we go to Disney. I thought about picking her up from school with the car decorated "we're going to Disney!", but we make the drive in 2 days and I don't want to listen to her asking if we're there yet the whole time:lmao:

Well, we leave today, and while we're sad, we've had such a great time we can't complain. Next time, we stay longer. The Poly has been picture perfect. No bad stuff, all love-- oh yeah, one issue: I couldn't get a box to ship stuff home in, like I often do. The weather cooled down on Friday, just in time for the appearance of all the Christmas decorations. The crowds were way up yesterday, so it's just as well we're outta here, although maybe they'll drop again after the weekend. Anyway, more to come as I think of it, but this was a lovely stay.

:wave:Good Morning Everyone. Have been away for a bit and missed a whole lot. I have to go back and read to catch up.:rotfl:

Happy dance for those who are leaving soon or who are there now and having fun. :woohoo::yay::woohoo:

I have to say that the cat is still in the bag and I am sticking to my guns and not telling our DS about the Poly. I am so excited. He is going to be so surprised.
