ALOHA! The Polynesian Resort Information Thread: Summer 2011 Edition!

3 days, 17 hours.... :stitch: :stitch2: :stitch: :stitch2: :stitch: :stitch2:

......and I haven't packed a single thing.
Me either. I always last-minute pack though :sad2:

We walked over and found both consierge CM's sitting at their desks doing nothing :confused3 We finally got our check in underway and ended up meeting BreezysMom while checking in!

Overall a nice trip to the Poly, but not as magical as past trips have been. Dh is rooting for a Caribbean vaca next year instead of WDW, which we may try, but if we do return to WDW we most likely will be branching out to try another resort..possibly the beach club.
The fact that two CMs were sitting in the building and you were not greeted for check in would've annoyed me. Cool that you met BreezysMom ! We will be at the Poly for the first time so I have no previous stays to compare it to, BUT we stayed at Sugarloaf in August and they will be a TOUGH act to follow IMO. I am going with the expectation of having a great Disney trip, no more no less. My DH is REALLY looking forward to the Poly. Thanks for your review!!! Welcome home, hope the Post Disney Blues aren't too bad...

You sound like my husband - he'll wait until the night before :confused3
I will be packing Friday morning :rotfl:

Just upgraded to CL for nov 6th-12th, looking for menu for the week we're there, can someone point me towards it? Thanks! Been searching for an hour already....
See you Sunday!!!

Aloha Poly lovers!

I changed the Facebook page to Live from the Polynesian so anyone can post while they are there popcorn::

Since it is so much easier to posts pictures from smart phones and iPhones you can share your vacations with all of us Poly lovers

So come on and join if you are on FB and going to the Poly :yay:
I am not a FB person, but that does sound easy :lovestruc

I did two loads of laundry last night, designated a "Disney pile" on our dining room table, and dug out our lanyards. That's a start, right? :rolleyes1

71 hours!

Aloha!! We're here in Samoa 3rd floor volcano pool side, aka heaven! We arrived early and there were lots of options for rooms although they initially assigned us Rapa Nui. Free wi-fi, clean room in great shape, weather's perfect, heading put to the parks now. So far so great! I'll try to do some pics later if I get a chance. Hopefully more updates to come!

You were originally assigned to Rapa Nui? Did they tell you that at the front desk and you then requested an alternate room? Just trying to get the details so we know what we can expect (or attempt to do on our own) when we go there in April. :thumbsup2

When I checked in (9:30ish) they told me what building I was given, and since I'm traveling with my folks (sciatica and arthritis), I wanted to be close to the center of the resort, so I kindly asked for something closer. They offered Raratonga, Niue and Samoa. All were immediately available. Having done Samoa before, I knew it would be fine, so that's what I picked. I was at all times amenable to not getting what we needed and never felt or acted like I was entitled, and the CMs were very helpful. I think the midweek check in at a slow time really helped our cause. If they don't have it, they just don't have it. In short, it doesn't hurt to ask, but don't be upset if you don't get it. It's all good, truly.

Anyway, it is really beautiful here right now. I couldn't ask for better weather, and the crowds at the MK were light. The pool is great, not overcrowded, no wristbanding today. The kids love the activities as ever, and are making friends left and right. They're resting now before our ADR at LTT. I think we're going to be late, but will take our chances-- everyone really needs to rest after getting up at 3 this a.m. More when I get a chance. :cloud9:

I just want to throw out some love for Rapa Nui! Our family loves that building. We really love the separate, off to the side parking lot that is in front of the building. We go in September and October (always rent a van) and there are never more than a handful of cars there. You get an upfront parking space every time.

There is also a COVERED overhang that you can drive right up to at the FRONT DOOR! You can unload all the family, suitcases, groceries right there in the front. The rooms are large and it's very quiet there. We got a room facing the parking lot this year and didn't even mind. It's so close to the TTC, and the area beside Tahiti to watch fireworks, and the laundry room...and we don't think the walk is too far to the GCH. We were assigned that building years back and thought it would be terrible, BUT we fell in love with it and have been requesting it ever since!

Plus these rooms have been renovated recently and ours in October was very nice. So just in case you hear those scary words "...your room is located in Rapa Nui"...maybe give it a chance! :)

Missus Toad sounds like you are off to a great start!! We were at the Poly a couple of weeks ago and didn't make it to the pool. Some days seemed a little cool for the pool, so glad to hear the weather is cooperating now! I will be returning to Disney and staying at the CSR for a conference this weekend...maybe I'll catch up on my pooltime then! Enjoy your trip!!

It sounds like no matter where we get assigned we will be happy. For matters sake - I don't remember exactly, but I think we requested 3rd floor any view in either the Fiji or Tahiti longhouses. :confused3

This time tomorrow I will eating my way around the World :cool1: For now, I am at my office printing out our boarding passes because once again, we are without power  Goodbye CT, Aloha Polynesian

So exciting to see that several of you (us) are already at the Poly, or on the way there in the next few days!! I can't wait to hear your thoughts.

Are the Christmas decorations up at the MK yet?

Just booked our first stay at the Poly for May 2012! This has been a dream of mine for years, and also for DD12. It will only be a short stay, following a week offsite for a family reunion, but while at the Poly we will be having non-park days so we can really enjoy the resort. Not to mention, after a week-long family reunion, we will need that time to de-stress! Hoping to rent a cabana for a full day.

Congrats, have a blast!:cool1:

Just 25 days til our return! Can't wait to hear that first "Aloha" and "Welcome Home" of the trip, as we pull up to the guard house... and then that wonderful walk from the car to the GCH for check-in! :) My senses are dancing and twirling. I feel like I am there already... I can just see everything, smell those Poly smells, hear the monorail whirring by, the ferry and railroad whistles blowing, etc. Almost, almost! :)

8 days and counting until the Poly

I could use some pixie dust, here’s what my year has been so far:

January – snow, snow and more snow

Feb – thanks to all that snow I know have an ice dam that leaked into the walls of the bathroom down into the kitchen. Great!

Mar – I need a vacation. So I take a cruise and spend 4 days in bed with strep!

Apr – will the snow ever melt?

May – Ok, I’m going to take an extra day for Memorial Day Weekend. But wait! I get strep on that Thursday and spend the entire weekend in bed again!

June 1st – A tornado rips right through my neighborhood. We are in MA in a major city – yes, a tornado. I couldn’t even get home that night. The house and the cat were ok but I was 5 days without power.

June – so we’ve had this trip to Iceland planned for a long time. And of course, bronchitis decided to come along for the ride. Argh!

July – still not feeling good

Aug – finally break down and go to the doctors. Sinus infection. Then I’m at work and I thought I was having a stroke but it was only an earthquake. Then that weekend just for fun, we had a hurricane.

September – only month when things actually went smoothly

Oct – to celebrate out 3rd anniversary we head to NYC. Thought it would be a lovely idea to walk through Central Park until I decided to kiss face with the sidewalk! Sprained ankle/wrist and bruised knee. And to top it off a stupid storm come through on the 30th and dumps 14 inches of wet heavy snow and I lose power. I figure I’m ok because I have gas heat – but no luck – it requires electricity to stay on. Oh and did I mention I woke up sick with a cold this morning???

As of today I still do not have power or anything and I’m still sick. I don’t care because in 8 days I will be at my favorite place.

8 more day, 8 more days
