ALOHA! The Polynesian Resort Information Thread: Summer 2011 Edition!

PolyndianPrincessJes Fabulous pictures and your children are so adorable. They look like they are having so much fun.

PolyndianPrincessJes.......Awesome pics.....thanks for posting them :goodvibes.

Thank you both!!

We sure are hitting that PPD (post poly deperession!!). We haven't nailed down dates for the next trip, so I can't even put up a new ticker!! :faint:

Beautiful pics of the Poly, thanks for shareing them and that video is just so cute, now that is a memory with your DD your DH will never forget :goodvibes

Just want to vent ... at Poly now ... came back to the resort this afternoon (around 4:45 pm) and there were NO parking spots available in the main lot. We circled around and finally had to park in the 30 min parking. We've never encountered a completely full lot before and when talking to the CMs at both the main concierge desk and Hawaii concierge, they didn't seem to surprised and told us not to worry - we wouldn't be towed as long as we had our parking pass on the dash. They suggested we head back out to the parking lot after the Luau as some of the cars might have left. :confused3

Regarding the cabans - how many days before a trip can you reserve a cabana? Do you pay for it in advance? How many people can use the cabana - we have six in our party, 4 Adutls and 2 children.
Thanks!
Debbie

I believe 6 is the max. No you do not pay for it in advance but you do need a cc guarantee. I called last week for our trip coming up in a week but I also know someone who was there who inquired about a rental while they were there and there was some open spots so they did it that day :thumbsup2

There is a 24 cancellation policy but if there is bad weather you will not be responsible for charges.

I hope that helps :goodvibes

CoachBagFanatic......Looks like you're doing a great job so far keeping the secret from your DS :thumbsup2. I, on the other hand, would last about a day if I was lucky :rotfl: :rotfl:.

Oh I am not doing very well at all. He stayed over his friends house Friday night and came home around 11:00am yesterday morning and I almost caved in. I am not going to be able to do this. I am so good at keeping secrets but for some reason, I am having such a difficult time with this. I think it's because we have always told him that we would never ever stay at the Poly and once he finds out he is going to be so psyched. Knowing this, this is why I am jumping out of my skin. I need an intervention.:scared::hyper::faint::hyper2::rotfl:

We have all been in your shoes. Sending some :grouphug:. Once you start to plan your next trip, it will be all good.:flower3:

As CoachBagFanatic said....we have all been in your shoes . I was so much looking forward to being at the Poly right before Christmas, but turns out we have to cancel our trip (notice I said "have to" and not "had to" as I know what I need to do, just haven't made that call yet :sad1:). I am starting to plan for spring break in March, but even with free dining (the only discount out right now for that time), the Poly rates are VERY EXPENSIVE :scared1:.......so I am looking at free dining at a mod (looking at POR), with fingers crossed a good room discount comes out so I can change to the Poly :wizard:.

All of these photos have me homesick.

Me too......I love seeing pics of the Poly, but it makes me want to be there and never leave :cloud9:.

I am of no help whatsoever because I probably would have caved already :rotfl: :rotfl:. Secrets are fun for me because I love seeing people's reactions when I know it's something they will flip over, but when it comes to Disney it's hard for me to keep my mouth shut because I always have Disney on the brain and that's something I love to talk about :rotfl2:.

Please don't take this the wrong way but I see that your upcoming trip is for the WL and not sure if this is the trip that you are speaking of renting the cabana but I was told that if you are not staying at the Poly, you can't rent a cabana. So if you are inquiring about your upcoming trip, you may want to ask them.

This is the exact thing that is making me so weak right now about telling him because I know how he is going to react. Just seeing him so excited is wearing me down.:scared1:

You can do it......just keep telling yourself how much more exciting it will be for him (and you) to find out when he gets there :goodvibes. And then come here for support if you feel like you're going to let the cat out of the bag ;).

Thank you!! Just the words I needed to read and you are right, I can do this. So if I feel that I am starting to break down again, I will definitely be back for moral support.:flower3:

I'm no help in the secrets department...I've already told my 9yo and 4yo that we are going!!! I love the anticipation of the trip though and feel like I have to talk about it all of the time. I'm Disney-obsessed.

You're welcome :flower3:. Glad you are confident to keep this secret....your DS is gonna love it when he gets there :goodvibes.

I am the same way. I love secrets, but I'm also very Disney obsessed that it would be hard for me to keep it quiet for even a day :rotfl:.

I can't stand it! I've gotta let the cat outta the bag too!

I'm making my final preparations for our Halloween room decorating and it is KILLING ME not saying anything to my family about it! Jane from Gifts of a Lifetime is really going all out. She's even going to put a skeleton in one of the beds, which when she suggested it I thought was hilarious!

I have to keep my mouth shut for 13 more days! I feel like I'm gonna explode!!!

Hello Poly Lovers :) I am booked for a 5 night Free Dining stay at the POLY, Club Level GV room Sept 29-Oct 4, 2012....before heading over to Hard Rock Hotel Club Level for Oct 4,5,6 and experiencing all Universal has to offer :) I chose the POLY for the location, the lush tropical theme, the Volcano Pool, the Club Lounge/offerings, the Monorail...the ambience....it just seems so beautiful! as well, we need the 3 sleeping arrangements for my son, myself and my best friend....and if my oldest son comes along too, he and my youngest will have to share the sofa bed! (both older teens).....I have read some dismal reviews the last couple weeks....I usually know to take reviews with a grain of salt, but it is so sad to hear of the dismal condition of such expensive rooms! I really hope my room is in good shape....I am paying a pretty penny, even with my FD discount to stay at the POLY, and I would be so disheartened to have moldy, broken down and dingy room conditions....I would be one who would speak out ASAP about that ,but still....I hate to start out my holiday with complaints!
Please remind me of the good things and why people have so much POLY Love! I am not wanting to change my reservation, but I must admit reviews like the latest ones make me question my resort choice!

Sounds like you're doing some fabulous surprise decorating :goodvibes. Not sure how long you've been keeping this secret, but I'm sure you can hold out another 13 days :thumbsup2.

We love the Poly for everything it has to offer :goodvibes. The grounds are beautiful, the beach is great for watching the fireworks, it's peaceful walking around at night under the lit tiki torches, it's convenient being able to walk to the TTC to catch the Epcot monorail, Captain Cooks is great for quick CS meals, the pool is awesome, and the hammocks on the beach are a great way to spend a relaxing afternoon or evening :cloud9:. I understand about not wanting to start your trip off with a complaint, but if you do get a less desirable room, I would politely asked to be moved ;).

Just to let you know too......you mention if your oldest DS comes along, he and your younger DS will share the sofa bed. That bed is actually only about the size of a twin bed, so not sure it can be shared by two teens :confused3.

Thanks Mickey Nut :) and thanks for the heads up on the sofa bed....if that happens, maybe my gf will use the sofa bed, as she's a tiny thing....and I am paying the room costs....both my boys are strapping boys/verging on young men! one is over 6'2" tall...so that first plan obviously wouldn't work! :rotfl:

You're welcome :goodvibes. Good idea of having your gf take the daybed should your other son come along.......I don't know that a person 6'2" would be comfortable on it, let alone 2 people  .

Here are some pictures from my Oct 1-9th stay at the Poly!

Continued in next post!

Beautiful photo's! Thx...:goodvibes

Arrived yesterday! We arrived by car and someone greeted us and took us to check-in. It was silly but nice service. to all that voiced their displeasure over the shortened monorail hours!!!

Glad you arrived, and got that cabana, that was my fav!:cool1:

And here are a few from our own mini-photo shoot on the beach...

Gorgeous babies!:thumbsup2

Good morning Polynesian Peeps. . .just thought I would check in to see how the thread was faring. Right after our return from vacation on 10/8, I began a new job and don't have the time I had before to visit and chat.

While we were in Disney (9/30-10/8/11), I made it up to the Polynesian for a visit with our favorite Tiki guy and family. We enjoyed a lovely (and tasty) breakfast at Kona and my husband and I wandered around the property for a bit after breakfast. We were amazed at how quickly the tropical vegetation has grown since June 2010. Everything looked wonderful to us. :lovestruc

I am trying to plan a return for F&W next year and perhaps a May or late June trip. While I looked at the Polynesian, without a discount, those prices have simply gotten too outrageous for us. It is sad to say since we have been a devoted Polynesian family since 1994. It is really hard to justify paying rack rate for a room when the price for a couple of days is the cost of a one month mortgage payment. :confused3 The Polynesian definitely has our heart, but our wallet is balking.

Looking forward to reading reviews from those who are there (or will be going soon)! I snapped a few pictures around the resort while we were there and if I get a chance here soon, I'll post them here.

Aloha!
