We checked into the poly today in tokelau. We had a good day but our room wasn't exactly perfect. Our patio door wouldn't open and we have had no signal on our tv or Internet all day. They say it's because of the weather but I wanted to check and see if anyone else was having no signal problems or I'd it was just us.

We had trouble with the patio door on our first floor room. Come to find out there was an extra step we needed to do in order to open the door. Trying to remember what it was. The CM that came to help us with it was very nice about it.

I believe there is a bar at the bottom of the door you have to lift to open the door all the way.

In browsing on the net for info, I came across an article about Trader Sam's in Disneyland, and it mentions about new souvenir Tiki mugs available when u buy a drink (they look really cool) I wondered if there was anything similar coming to the Polynesian. When I was there last fall they had discontinued resort specific merchandise (yes i know thats in another thread also) but if anyone here whose been maybe knows. Shirts are great, but if there is any kind of mug or glass with the Polynesian theme/name.

I have a question about arriving by car. We'll be in the Hawaii building and I'm wondering if we drive to the parking lot and then lug everything to the GCH or is there a place to drop everything off and then go park the vehicle? The CM won't mind waiting for DH to park before taking us to check in?

I've definitely seen people unloading their things at the GCH before - you'll find that they're very accommodating like that. Plus it's rare that you just pull up and they're ready to take you to Hawaii - you'd probably have to wait for a golf cart to take you there either way. Could one of you stay with the bags just in case, if it makes you feel more comfortable?

We always pull up to GCH where someone greets us with a luggage cart and takes are things, then DH would park the car while me and DD would check in and the bellhop would take our cart to a bellhop stand right there in the front of GCH. Then after checking in we all go back to bellhop desk and give them the ticket, can't remember if they gave us a ticket or they did at check in, but anyway we give them ticket then they load our luggage and us on a golf cart and take us to our room. It has been a couple of years since we stayed there and things are always changing but this is the way we use to do it. Have a wonderful time, you will LOVE it!

Just reserved a Poly poolside cabana for 1/2 day for our upcoming trip. Hey, you only live once!

(We rented a Polar Patio at Blizzard Beach for our trip in 2010 for our party of 6. That worked out great!).

Oh! I don't expect them to be there right then. I just don't want a CM to wait for DH if it's not something that they usually do. I'm more than OK with waiting with the bags.

I thought that if you stayed in Hawaii, you'd check in there. I could be confused, since this is all new to me. I just didn't want them to leave DH behind when they took us to our building. :)

You do your actual check-in at the Hawaii building as opposed to in the GCH at the front desk. When you pull up to the front of the resort there are bellhops waiting outside at a stand, ready to take you into the GCH or to the Hawaii building for check-in. They'll allow you to unload your luggage and then go park the car. They'll put your luggage on a cart and whisk you off to the Hawaii building to check-in.

Here are a couple of shots of the front of the GCH where you will first pull up when you arrive. They're there, ready and waiting.

I am just a wee bit excited. Just a little...lol

You will love cabanas. Did it last summer. Enjoy the special service. It was worth the money.

One more sleep and we will be on our way! I have to get through a long seminar day today , check the bags to make sure nothing was forgotten, go over animal care, and then try to sleep!

I think my body has been practicing because I keep waking up at 2 am! (Leaving for airport tomorrow at 4:30 am.) I'll try to post from poolside or when I can't sleep (insomnia) but I will also be on Facebook on the Live from the Polynesian group that BreezysMom started. Aloha!!!!

Thanks guitarob! I was hoping it was easy...it's these little logistical things that I'm not sure about. They seem clear but when you don't go anywhere, you don't know what to expect :)

Cabanas are an excellent indulgence. I have 2 cabana days booked in August.

Safe travels to you. Can't wait to read your posts once you arrive. Aloha!

Sheesh, I was all worried about car, luggage, check-in when I thought we were driving. This morning someone on the DIS posted about SWA fall sale on airfare and we booked it! Saved so much money and now we don't have the 2 day drive to look forward to, thank goodness! Also got to extend vacation time just a bit on both ends and will have 7 full days instead of 5! Now I have to figure out where to stay that first night since we arrive late. I'm thinking POR since it fits 5.

I'm kinda glad I have some more planning to do...I've missed it since we've booked everything!

If we ask POR to transfer our luggage to Poly while we spend the day in a park, do you know what time we can expect it to arrive? Is there anything special I need to do to help it go smoothly?
