Sorry for those of you just back and having post trip blues. Four more days here to get through....today my DS12 has a baseball game at peak heat time of 90 degrees and NO shade options at this park!

Tomorrow more packing and cleaning....
Monday - busy day at work with a packed calendar.....
Tuesday - looooooong seminar, but my boss wants me there (I may be getting an award, but I just want to finish packing for my trip!) Priorities...:lmao:Do you think if they ask me to say anything I could just hold up the award and scream "I'm going to Disney World!"

We stayed in the Tuvulu Longhouse with a lagoon view. It was wonderful. Very short walk to the GCH and pool area. We've been back a week now, and I miss Disney and the Poly. It was such a nice vacation.

Just back yesterday from another great Poly stay. We ended up checking in a day earlier than planned. I called about an hour before we arrived, and was able to get an AP rate for the extra night. I heard that most of the week was completely booked, so we got really lucky I guess. In spite of that the CL lounge never seemed crowded. It's always sad when it's time to leave. I'm trying to focus on the next trip coming up in October.

Well the rain has been coming down off and on for the last couple days! I have cancelled the cabana. :( I will look on the bright side! Saved $640 so now we get more Mickey souvenirs and our "ohana" can be just that much closer! :grouphug: Today the forecast is going to be up to an inch of rain per hour!

Latest rumors from a reliable source.

They are indeed fencing off both pools with room key access. (or you can climb over it! lol)
The premium cabana will be replaced with a hot tub.
The pool deck could get a facelift/replacement.
The GCH may go through and extensive rehab. (possible tear down and rebuild)

So here it is.

GCH has not been approved yet! But when or if it is, the GCH will be torn down completely and yes more than likely will be growing into Aulani like tower with DVC rooms. Rapa nui will be the temporary GCH.
The pool has been approved and is scheduled for the end of the fourth quarter. Until its done. So end of dec/January the pool deck is going to be expanded. A fence installed around both pools. ("themed") a hot tub will be installed.

Full Room rehabs start in october

Holy wow - great info batman! ;)

I'm glad to hear about the rooms although I still think they are nice :) VERY glad to hear about the volcano pool being enclosed with a key entry BUT I hope they do it without ruining the view!!! And I know you use the premium cabana but I'm actually glad to hear they are getting a hot tub. While I don't particularly use them and certainly don't want to be in one in the heat, the Poly is a deluxe hotel and they should offer one. I'm not sure why they would fence in the quiet pool though :confused3 It's only crowded if the volcano pool is closed.

And what pool deck is going to be extended? I'm not sure I understand that - it's all concrete unless they take up a larger portion of the beach. I'm sure I'm not understanding though

Not sure of the plans for the pool deck expansion. But the info person said into the grass area. Maybe moving the path Closer to Samoa.
The fence has to be installed on both pools to bring them up to code. (it's really to keep little ones from sneaking into the pool unsupervised)

About a year ago while looking on a travel website (travelocity or similar) I saw a price for The Polynesian Village in September for about $280 but at the time i could not go. Is there often prices like that. Now I could probably manage that, the prices all seem to be back to usual. Does anyone know if there is a time when the prices are at that rate. Thanks.

They will release room discounts that will be 30-40% off and you could get that rate but there is no telling as to when or if they will release it. September has free dining right now but thats about it. I believe everyone is waiting on a public discount for Oct-Dec. I am a Disney Travel Agent so we get wind of the specials before their release but I can tell you any room discount for September now will be slim unless you are an Annual Passholder.

Polynesian village is not disneys polynesian resort More than likely it was referring to the Polynesian isles in Orlando.

Most I have seen as far as discounts at the Poly was 40% off rack rate of $560 a night. Which equals around $340 a night.

Heading to Disny first week of March. DH wants to stay Poly again:cool1::cool1: I need an update. I'm seeing room rehabs to start in Oct? Realistically, at what stage would it be first of March? Also, new hot tub? Should be done, right?

The Polynesian Village used the be what the Polynesian Resort was called. However, she is either thinking old school and didn't really see the Village part or you are right... it was for something else.

I'm a long time lurker but this is my first time posting. Next month, I'm turning the big 4-0! Six months ago, my DH asked where I wanted to celebrate this BIG birthday and I immediately said WDW! This will be our 13th trip to the world but 1st time staying at the Poly. I'm so excited! Anyway, just wanted to thank all of you Poly veterans for the information in this thread. It's all been extremely helpful! :)

Was the first time i'd ever seen it that low, was about 280 give or take a few dollars. And it was Disneys Polynesian. As for the 'Village' part, thats easy, I"ve been going to Disney for a long time and i'm old LOL (or rather, 'only young at heart' if you prefer) and thats how I remember it.

LOL I understand! My mother still calls it that as well! You will rarely see anything for the Poly under $300 or so with a discount at that. Carl is right the rack rate for these rooms run around $520+ depending on the season. Typically the room discount is 30% but if you're lucky you may see up to 40% but even at that you are still talking $300 plus.

4Spen, Welcome to The DisBoards from a fellow Okie. You will find a lot of terrific info here, and some of the nicest folks.

The Poly is our absolute favorite resort. The 25th wedding anniversary trip is a couple of years in the future, but it's still fun to keep up with the DisBoards, and listen to the The Dis Unplugged Podcasts.

Have a great trip and a very happy :cake: birthday!

Very interesting. It of course begs the question as to which other pools on Disney property need to be gated! I just stayed at CBR and that one has a gate. At WL and the villas pool, neither were gated when I was there last May. Looks like maybe we'll see some more gates being installed at other properties too??

I was wandering how long it would be before they started doing this to all pools because at DL they are gated. But not just for safety... but the pools require your room key to enter, so it would be a way of preventing pool hoppers.

We checked into the poly today in tokelau. We had a good day but our room wasn't exactly perfect. Our patio door wouldn't open and we have had no signal on our tv or Internet all day. They say it's because of the weather but I wanted to check and see if anyone else was having no signal problems or I'd it was just us.

I've been there through some rough weather and have never lost TV or internet. I would ask to speak to a manager. Can you switch rooms? Do you want to switch rooms? We are arriving on Wednesday and I'm hoping the resort is not packed. We requested Samoa so we will see if our Wish is granted, but we have 5 rooms all linked to a Grand Gathering.

But call and ask to speak to a manager......
