ALOHA! The Poly FAQ: Winter 2011 Edition

I've been reading news of "new coffee machines" available in the CL lounges. Wondering if the Poly has been upgraded. My veins are only used to the strongest of tar-like real coffee and can't tolerate instant.

And I am dying to know what updates they did to the CL evening app menu. Anyone there since mid Feb that recalls what was served?

The view is so worth the money! :lovestruc I had only a partial Castle view at Poly CL and vowed that I would definitely book a TPV at some point to get a full on view - it was heaven watching Wishes from the bed, and getting to watch the Castle turn colors at night. :cloud9:

:cloud9: ahhhh This is what we are patiently waiting for. We've always stayed GV and DH asked me when we decided to book this trip if I thought we could stay in Hawaii and get a room that overlooked the beach and the MK...to which I promptly replied "Heck yeah, we can!" After looking at various postings/pics, we are so excited!

This trip is a total surprise for the kids - will pick them up from school (last day of winter break), head to the airport and it's there they will find out where they are headed. :yay: If it weren't still 275 days away... :lmao:

Fantastic! That's one helluva surprise! I bet they'll be beyond stoked. I'm beyond stoked about our trip and I know all about it. :upsidedow

I think that we made a great choice for the resort for our family on April 2011!

Oh that is just too cool! You all will simply  the view from those rooms. :goodvibes And what a great surprise for the kids! But I'm warning you - you'll get spoiled :)

There is a splash area that you can find amongst the pics at the start of this thread. The volcano pool has a zero level entry making it a good choice for littles one to play and splash as well. It's right off the beach area and offers a great view of the castle at Magic Kingdom across the lagoon. There are pictures of it at the start of the thread as well.

Hope this helps! :goodvibes

I think the new coffee machines they are talking about they had back in Sept. It has several different options and we really liked them and my DH loves his coffee strong.

You just push what button you want:
Latte
Cappucino
Espresso
Regular/decaf

I loved the Latte and Cappucino..

I didnt read there were new appys for the CL? Its normally 3 hot appys, plenty of fruit, cheese, crackers, raw veggies, hummus and pita, uncrustables, sangria, beer, wine, soda, water, tea, juice. Food is always replenished and you are encouraged to come back for more.. Met the new chef back in Sept, so friendly and loved to explain what offerings were out.

Bah, those are still the old machines I think with the Necafe junk.

As for the new apps when I was there in Jan I was talking with Kim (one of the CL chefs) and she said they were starting to roll out some new apps on Feb 6th. The other CL chef would be out a few weeks due to surgery so since she would be working 7 days week during that time they were going to be training everyone on the new offerings. She had mentioned to me what a few of them would be, but she was still working on pulling together the full line up (and getting it approved) so only mentioned what she knew was rolling out. I've been anxious to hear how the new menu turned out. :flower3:

for anyone who is recently back from a stay at the poly, are the lifeguards still checking room keys and issuing wristbands for the pool? i was so excited to read earlier in the thread that they were and am hoping they are continuing to do so.

Coffee, we all take it so seriously!

Do you recall if the Poly CL machine looked like this:

or like this machine on the left:

Even though it's a bit blurry, the second machine looks like a "Nespresso" machine which is essentially Nestle's "fancy" Keurig-type machine. It uses little pods of real coffee just like a Keurig but only does espresso. (We've got a home version Nespresso machine.) If Poly's lounge has a Nespresso machine, that would rule. :woohoo:

Your description of the "Nepresso" machine or whatever the correct name it is from my picture is correct, because those need the pods to make the drink. Now when we stayed Club Level at the Polynesian in December 2007 they had the Nescafe machine where you press a button for the option you wanted, plus they still are using that same one for the Boardwalk Inn Club Level lounge as of December 2010.

Thanks for posting that pic, CR Fan. :) I could just make out the logo and recognized it from our home machine. Hopefully all the resorts will upgrade to the Nespresso machines -- much nicer treat for guests to have real coffee. Keeping my fingers crossed they'll upgrade the Poly (if they've not already).

You're welcome and I can't say how many times I have made drinks from the Nespresso machines when staying Club Level at the Contemporary.

Did you like it? It was all varying versions of coffee and espresso, right? I've not seen the commercial machines in action but my hubby has one as his work. When that machine goes down, they get someone out that very day to fix it. :rotfl: The home ones just offer about 20 or so varieties of espresso.

Yes I liked it very much. Now in all our Club Level stays at the Contemporary since it was added to the lounge if there was a minor problem then one of the Club Level Cast Members was always able to fix it. However if there was problem which required a Maintenance Cast Member, it was always fixed within a few hours and I believe that only happened one time when we were there. Now I can't say how it is during the months when we weren't there, so I would say each time for us it's always been operating between 99% - 100%.

We LOVE our Keurig machine, it would be fab if the CL lounge switched ot that style machine. Heck it would be even better if they put the mini keurig or pod types of machines in the rooms. Think of how much easier clean up would be!!

CR Fan: Sounds like they know how dire a situation a broken coffee machine can be.

It was that one.

Aww, poo. :sad2: Thanks for the info though.

Oh indeed. Our Nespresso machine is worth its weight in gold. Still have a normal drip coffee pot but the Nespresso is world's apart -- just like the Keurig. Heck yeah, that would be positively grand if they put pod type machines in the room. We can but dream! :wizard:
