ALOHA! The Poly FAQ: Winter 2011 Edition

Just this very morning, when not doing anything vaguely productive other than chatting with folks here about how horrific Nescafe is, I wondered the same thing about the "Elephant in the Chat Room." Originally, I was thinking it might be some sort of bot but now I'm leaning toward someone with ESL. Y'all made me laugh -- :rotfl:

Bedrails at the Poly: Has anyone ever used them on the daybed? I'm torn as to whether I should bring the inflatable bed for the kiddo, try bedrails on the daybed if possible or sleep in the other bed with her -- and being kicked in the hoo-haa, back, face and other random body parts as well as wake up with an elbow lodged in my eye-socket.

The daybed is much lower to the floor than the regular beds. I haven't had the need to use bedrails (DD19 usually sleeps in it! :rotfl:) What we have previously done in other hotels with our daughters though when they were younger is to just push a chair against the bed just as a "reminder" if she bumps up against it that she's at the edge. Unless your DD is a young toddler I would think she should be fine in the daybed (it wouldn't be very far to fall if she did happen to roll out ). I can't imagine sharing a bed with my youngest for the duration on a trip - talk about getting no sleep!

I was reminded of asking this because -- when I went in to check on her as I do every night before I hop into bed -- she was laying across the top of her bed along the line of the pillows. She's 4 and a professional sleep-karate expert. She literally takes up 3/4 of her bed (queen) from all her night moves. I don't know where she gets it from... :rolleyes1 I've really got to be brave and take off her bed rails at home. :scared1: We usually just take an inflatable kid-sized bed with us when we travel and she does fine; we'll probably just do the same for this trip. Not sure why a real bed is an invitation to practice martial arts in her sleep.

We've been here all week. Every day there have been CMs checking room cards and issuing wrist bands.

Awesome week, btw!!! Last day today, so tempted by bounceback offer in room (40% selected dates).

Great news! Wish this would have been in place last year around Memorial Day! The pool was super packed:scared1:

Just curious...what is the bounceback they are offering now?

Wow, really? I am glad to hear that!

Could you tell how the East pool refurbishment is coming along? Do you think it will look pretty much the same as it was when they're done?

I am so jealous you are at the Poly. Glad you are having fun:goodvibes

Would LOVE to see some updated pics of the east pool redesign.....can you see if they have new concrete forms or a different design already poured? :surfweb:

We have used a bedrail on the daybed. It doesn't fit the greatest but it does give a "warning " resistance. I also put the extra bed pillows underneath just in case she rolled hardly against the rail and it came off. She never rolled out but it was still an extra peace of mind.;)

All this talk about the pool refurbishment has piqued my curiosity -- is this the "Quiet Pool"? Any word on how long it will be until they finish? We actually preferred the Quiet Pool over the volcano pool last time we went, only because it was relaxed and a bit more subdued for our kiddo.

Add another person to the list of people who are glad to hear they're checking room cards and using wristbands -- that's fantastic. All resorts should really do that, in particular the ones that have crowding/hopping issues. It must make the CMs and the lifeguards lives much easier.

Grace&Carolinesmom: Thanks for the reply. I know she'd probably like sleeping on the daybed so I might give it a shot and bring the inflatable bed for the first part of our stay at the BC (no clue how their rooms are set up).

You could put the inflatable against the daybed, so worst case senerio... she rolls from one to the other.

Good idea!

And when I read this, it gave me a mental image of her rolling off the daybed and bouncing off the inflatable... and I :lmao: :rotfl:

for anyone who is recently back from a stay at the poly, are the lifeguards still checking room keys and issuing wristbands for the pool? i was so excited to read earlier in the thread that they were and am hoping they are continuing to do so.

We were just there last week and never had our KTTW cards checked and never saw any wristbands.

I took another look at the bounceback-- no go for us due to very limited dates. Summer, mid- October and most of December were not available.

It's hard to see into the pool rehab area--it's fenced off with screened fencing if that makes any sense. I peeked through a crack, but it's really just a mess right now. This was my first Poly stay since I was 6, so I don't have anything to compare it to. I will say that the pool got quite busy while we were there. It felt festive to us, but if I had an itty bitty one it might have been overwhelming.

Thanks! I wonder if they were just checking room keys because one of the pools was closed, making the main pool more crowded. I hope they don't stop checking room keys when the pool refurb is finished.
