ALOHA! The Poly FAQ: Fall 2010 Edition

Hello everyone! Throughout my childhood, the Poly was my family's favorite resort and I'm very sentimental about it. Since then, I've stayed in many other resorts. Now, my husband and I have three boys (ages pre-school to pre-teen) and we've found that BC is the best fit for us.

But we're already staying at BC three times in one year with our APs, so we wanted to do something different for our pre-schooler's birthday in January. Since this is his birthday trip, we'll spend extra time at MK and want to be on the monorail. The Poly was an easy choice!!

Initially, I didn't plan to make any room requests. We booked garden view, and I think any location would work for us - each has its own advantages. It's a short trip, so I don't feel as strongly about a balcony (we usually request one at BC.) But now I'm thinking I should try to avoid a parking lot view. I know that at some resorts, the parking lot view has a silver lining (like a view of fireworks or something else at night.) Any thoughts about parking lot views at the Poly? If we make a request to avoid a parking lot view, any suggestions for wording?

Thanks!! :wizard:

There really are no parking lots views as there is so much foilage throughout the resort. I would check out Tiki Steve's web page for some detailed room location advice, but I a pretty partial to Figi myself :thumbsup2 If you need Steve's website, just PM me and I will give you the link.

On a side note......

I have been getting random text updates from maiapapaya at they are happily in their third floor Tuvalu TPV room and enjoying themselves :wizard:

No word on any other Poly FAQ current travelers yet....hoping for some live reports soon :worship:

Glad to hear they're safely there - others should be there by now too. We don't leave until Tuesday and don't check into the Poly until Wednesday. Can't wait to celebrate DD's birthday there. :goodvibes

We've stayed in Fiji 2 of thee 3 times we've been to the Poly just by the luck of the Tiki gods, once on the marina side, once on the GF side!! (I prefer the marina side) I requested a balcony when I booked yesterday and am now debating whether I should request Fiji again, or leave it up to the Tiki gods once more. Guess I'll run it by my DD's & see what they think.

We have stayed on both sides too. I enjoyed the view of the GF and the Wedding Chapel on the luau side, but I do agree, I liked the Marina side too. I loved seeing the volcano pool at night. We could also see the ELP from our balcony which was a bonus :cloud9:

Thanks rcsilverspring! Your comments are much appreciated. :goodvibes
They're gonna be helpful to continue planning :thumbsup2

Enjoy your next trip,

JUST back from our very first Poly stay! Oh my goodness, we are HOOKED!!! We stayed garden view (regular dining plan) for our first 7 nights, then switched to PREMIUM theme park view on our last night. We were in Nuie at first, and we weren't super crazy about it. That building doesn't have an elevator & it was a bit inconvenient since DH has a torn calf muscle.

But, I do have to share about our last night. We were in #3414 in Tuvalu & we are in love. It was amazing! The views were gorgeous. I don't know if we can ever come back to WDW & not stay on the monorail. Poly was just perfect :cheer2:

I am so glad to hear that you had a wonderful time at the Poly! We will be having our first Poly stay in March! I can't wait! I have loved the Poly since my first visit as a little girl in the late 70's, but never had the opportunity to stay there before. Your report on a rainy Monday morning started my week out right!! Thanks!:goodvibes

We're exactly 48 hours away from Poly bliss!!! I have a few little things left before we leave, and I'm hoping to get everything done today so I'm not running around like a madwoman tomorrow. CAN'T WAIT!!!

We have had to postpone our annual trip due to various reasons, but at least you have a trip in your future. Planning is half the fun :cool1: Do you really have that many cats??? DH is allergic, so no cats for us. Although DD begs at least once a month for a kitten :sad1:

Haha, yeah we are cat crazy, they are our spoiled babies! They just keep coming into our lives in one way or another. :lovestruc

Our future trip now has an exciting addition - we're going to stay a couple of extra nights in Orlando to go to Universal to check out the new Harry Potter area! I love Harry Potter and have been dying to go, but I couldn't fathom going to Orlando and NOT going to Disney - I'd go crazy. I don't know why it never occurred to us before, to just tack it on to our usual Disney trip. Usually we go over a three day weekend so I guess we're so used to the routine, we didn't think up to just take a day or two off from work lol. We're also going to take a day to just browse through the outlet shops - DBF has always wanted to do that. I am so insanely excited now!! This is such a better idea than before. Now we'll actually be relaxing and exploring Orlando instead of having a super packed itinerary. :cloud9:

I know we'll definitely be hitting up Animal Kingdom - the last time we were there, just as we got to the front of the line of Everest, the ride had some unexpected problem and shut down! How's that for frustrating?

Ooooo so excited for you! :goodvibes I can't wait for my first stay even though I'm going to have to wait a while. Your post caught my eye about staying at the resort in the late 70's, my late 70's (or more like early 80's) stay as a little girl was at the Contemporary though. We're doing that one the year after Poly. :wizard:

Hey Poly peeps! Everyone is napping right now so I thought I'd take advantage of the peace & quiet and check in.

We arrived around noon yesterday. Our rooms weren't ready so we grabbed a lunch from CC's (not crowded at all), ate on the patio and then headed to the MK. We arrived back at Poly at 7:00 and still hadn't received our text giving us our room number! We were starting to worry, but everything was fine. We are 3rd floor Tuvalu, TPV. Our room is right at the end of the hall so from our balcony we have a panoramic view of the monorail, GF, MK right over past the CR towards the TTC. Watched Holiday Wishes from the balcony last night. Beautiful!

To anyone who has been worried about any negative reviews in the last few months ... our room is very clean, no maintenance/wear issues and the mousekeeper this morning did a great job. He also left a large dog towel animal on the bed with our kids' stuffies arranged around/on it.

The crowds at the MK were significantly thinner today. At 11:00 there was only a 5 min. wait for SM. We have return passes from being evacuated from BTMR yesterday and haven't had to use them yet (got to experience how well the emergency braking system on BTMR works - ouch!)

The pool was not too busy this afternoon. Lots of empty tables over by the bar. The CM's were not checking room cards, but this was probably because it didn't seem necessary. Tried my first pina colava. Yum - highly recommend it! I actually preferred it to a lapu lapu.

MsStinkerBelle, I haven't checked out the cabanas too closely, but the two I saw (I'm not sure if there's only 2?) face the pool with their backs to the GCH. They looked like they have nice cushioned lounge chairs and a tv up in the corner. The rental prices I think were $185 for a full day & $110? for half a day. I'll try to remember to take a closer look later.

Off to wake up the sleepers. We're having a light supper at CC's and are then heading back to the MK tonight for MSEP & Wishes ... and a surprise reservation for the Wishes Dessert Party!

Have a blast--looks like the weather has been good so far! I love the pina colava and lava flow. One is enough though--too sweet. We really liked the lapu lapu too, but it is a strong one!

Looking forward to hearing more!

Thanks so much! This is great news regarding the "parking lot" views. I've seen Tikiman Steve's website in the past, but I didn't know it had such detailed information. I'm so glad you suggested it - great resource!! Thanks again!

Let us know how the big surprise turns out ;)
