ALOHA! The Poly FAQ: Fall 2010 Edition

Subbing to this thread...
Just changed our WL CL reservation to Poly CL....
We are going on the Disney Dream 4/17 - 4/21 then spending two nights at WDW before beginning the drive back north.
Have not been to the Poly since it opened!! Looking forward to reading this thread for the next couple of months.
We stayed CL at WL over 4th of July and we loved it! My son loved the chocolate-chocolate chip muffins every morning...hope they have them at Poly. I may have to find Tonga Toast somewhere - had it back in 2008 and it was awesome.
Any advice/suggestions for room request. We have a garden view reserved. I really want to be on the third floor - so that may be my only request, unless someone has another suggestion. I assume we will be on the back side of the Hawaii bldg.
Can't wait to tell my son and sister at Christmas. This entire trip is a surprise to them!
Looking forward to trying a new hotel!!
Debbie

Captain Cooks would have Tonga Toast or you could make an ADR for breakfast at the Kona Cafe and order it there. Now since your staying Club Level you will be in the Hawaii Longhouse and the highest floor you can request there is the 3rd floor, plus they are the only floor where the rooms come with balconies.

I definitely want a balcony...so should I just request the third floor? Is Captain Cooks the quick service restaurant like Roaring Forks at WL? Can you just go to Captain Cooks and order Tonga Toast? Only at breakfast??

If you want a balcony then yes request a room on the 3rd floor. Finally Captain Cooks is their counter service restaurant which is just like Roaring Forks, so yes you can go there and just order Tonga Toast.

I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday weekend. We are blessed to have such helpful and caring DIS friends.

Aloha,

Hello everyone. Just returned Wednesday night from a 5 night/6 day stay at the Poly and had a pretty good time.

*Requested room in Rorotunga or Niue and ended up in Tokelau. Not ideal for us but was ok.

*I would give mousekeeping a 9 out of 10. They did a pretty good job everyday. I can't complain!

*Loved our room... it was HUGE and there were 3 pooh sized people in this room and it was really comfortable.

*Was not crazy about the view but we just had a garden view so we didn't expect much anyway.

*Water Pressure was HORRIBLE in the shower! It took me forever to get soap off of my skin so we called down to the front desk. They sent someone right up. The next morning it was WAY better!

*BUT... whatever they did to fix the water pressure caused a leak. We came back from the Christmas Party and I had the bed closest to the bathroom and the hole side next to the wall was soaked. I had been piling my new stuff over there and my Disney Dooney and Bourke Tote bag. The new stuff was ok because it was still in the bags, but the tote bag was ruined. However, they replaced it for me. They didn't move us though which I thought was odd but whatever.

*I also requested ground floor and ended up on the 3rd floor. My parents (in a separate/connected room) both had ECV's and one of the ladys in my room had an ECV so waiting on 3 elevators to go up and down was in inconvenient.

*The bus system was not up to par though. Because we had 3 ECV's we had to break in half into 2 buses and dad went by himself one day and waited 40 minutes on a bus to DHS. And of course the stopping at the other resorts. I would think Disney would offer a little better service for those paying for deluxe resorts, but that is just me. IMO... we had better bus service at the POP. Even if we didn't have ECV's it still wasn't very consistent or sufficient.

Overall, it was a pretty good stay. I understand things happen and they were pretty quick to respond for the most part. I would definitely stay there again though. I liked being on the monorail and loved the rooms and the atmosphere. We will see!

Arriving tomorrow night - staying at the POP. Arriving at the Poly Sunday morning. We will be checking in on the board from time to time and there will be a pile of us there from this thread next week, so if anyone has any questions ask away!

For all you first-weekers, hope to see you by the pool!!

Have a great time pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust:

Have a Lapu Lapu in my honor :dance3:

DD is decorating the mousekeeping envelopes with Mickey stickers. How much do y'all normally tip? Is $5 enough for each night?

Maiapapaya, I will be looking forward to reading anything you have to share with us while you are there! :lovestruc

Two weeks from today we will arrive at the Poly (after 2 nts at the GF). :cloud9: I can hardly believe it! I finally went from being very stressed out about this trip to very excited. I have one of my kids completely packed except socks  and myself about halfway packed. I picked up a thin fleece jacket today while BF shopping, that I think will be perfect for that Dec Disney weather. :thumbsup2 House is decorated, and Christmas shopping is about 75% done, which alleviates a lot of stress about timing of the upcoming vacation right there.

For all you fellow nerds, and you know who you are, I have to share... We have the monorail going around our Christmas tree. :rolleyes1 :santa:

:worship: Now THAT I would love! :worship:
My 9 y/o has recently decided he wants a train set and no way no how will that be happening anytime soon... If he pitched a monorail set however...

I guess that puts me in the nerd category! We bought a monorail set in 2000 and have been adding to it ever since! It has been up every year at Christmas except for when my daughter was very young and wanted to pull it off of the track!

I'M GOING TO DISNEY WORLD!!!!!!!! :yay::banana::cool1::dance3:

And not just ANYwhere in WDW, but, we're going back to the POLYNESIAN!!!!!!!
I just had to share with my "Poly peeps".

We got a 35% discount PIN code, so I just booked this morning for 6 nights in May at my favorite place in the world.
AND I was able to get ADR's at both LeCellier AND Ohana!!!! We will be taking our DD's and their boyfriends, so it will be 6 adults once again at the happiest place on earth!!!!!

I'm sure you'll be hearing lots more from me in the next 6 months!

I'm goin' HOME!!!!!!

We also got a 35% PIN code, and are going to the Poly in May...and also got into Le Cellier! I have to wonder if staying club level, and having ADR's being made for you, helps in getting into the normally difficult to get into restaurants.

A quick question for you all. Do you get bath robes when staying club level?
