ALOHA! The Poly FAQ: Fall 2010 Edition

Is it that so many Poly FAQs peeps are currently at the Poly that the board fell off the first page?? :confused3

I hope everyone is having a fabulous time.

I am also anxious to hear trip reports popcorn::

I'm lurking but caught up in work with my Christmas rush... I'm so focused on that and the countdown to xmas and then I can celebrate (with only 19 days to go once the big day passes ;) ). We still haven't told the kids were going back yet again (3rd trip in less than a year) and don't know if we're going to tell them or just wake them up and go. Their friends are finding out tonight for Hanukkah they are going the same time we'll be there (same flights too) so it would be fun to plan with them but also fun for mine not to know and have it be one surprise after another. So other than that and reeling over the fact the GP rates are better than AP rates for Jan and trying to decide if we renew when there or not...

Anyhow, still here and lurking but quiet. Will certainly post if I have a quick answer to someones questions though. :lovestruc

I have been out of the house most of the day. In two days though, we will be at the Poly! Dh is taking our Ipad so I am going to try and post updates each evening.

What is a good indication that it may be too cold to swim?

Beautiful sunny day here at the Poly, but day 2 of cold temps. In fact, the luau was cancelled tonight due to the cold weather. Other than that though things have been pretty good.

So far our only complaint is that when we came back to our room this afternoon at 1:30 it still hadn't been cleaned (my sister's room, just 2 doors down was already done). We left again and when we returned at 2:45 it still hadn't been touched with no signs of mousekeeping in sight. DH ended up calling and they had someone there within 5 minutes.

This incident aside though I will say the room is very clean (when it's cleaned :rotfl:) and yesterday a CM was shampooing the hall carpets.

I took a closer look at the cabanas for those interested. They also have a table & 4 chairs, as well as the loungers. And the half day rental is $110. DH & I both agree though that the location isn't that great. They are right beside the volcano pool. If you are going to pay that much money for a cabana we thought they should be in a more secluded area, like closer to the beach. I know they need to run power for the tv, etc. but on a crowded pool day it wouldnt' seem that private.

Off to tidy up the room and get some sleep - 8:00 am breakfast ressie at Tusker House in the am. Aloha!

Sorry, but I have to say "something": We live in Nothern Ontario, Canada. And I just can see us in T-shirts besides that poor guy :lmao:

It snowed for the last three days here and we still don't wear full winter gear.... :confused3

O.K., I'm done, I go back being quiet and lurking on the Board...

When is the quiet pool rehab taking place? We are booked for January and I was going to request a pool view...

We are actually from mid-western Ontario, wore our spring jackets to the airport in Detroit, were amongst the few people that weren't wearing hats & gloves yesterday in the park, but there was still no way we were going in that pool! The wind was icy blowing off the lagoon!!

Just read your post out loud to my husband as we are getting really excited about our trip. So glad you enjoyed the Poly... :goodvibes
Now the issue comes into play that you will NEVER be able to stay anywhere else and can never have anything less than a Theme Park View! So if that can even be called a negative, I think it's worth it!

I can totally relate to this! We stayed at the Poly for the first time in 2008, and I can't bring myself to stay anywhere else! Discounts in January help too. I know my kids would probably love staying somewhere different, with different pools and themes, but I just can't do it. They do love the monorail though.

I currently have 40% off our stay in January, and it has been so tempting to switch to TPV. Especially after reading others trip reports with TPV. Now I see that I should avoid that temptation, as I'd just be setting my standards even higher! I'll stick with Tokelau.

That is exactly what we are experiencing. We stayed in Tahiti bldg. TPV a couple of years ago. We can't imagine not having the lagoon and castle right outside our room. Last year we did club level TPV. Needless to say we are doing that again this year. It really will spoil you for anything else. I honestly thought that the room we had in Tahiti bldg. was nicer than our club level room, but you can't beat the convenience of the lounge nor the location of the longhouse. I am not sure if we want a patio again and the morning visit from the ducks or a balcony so that we can leave the sliding door open at night for the fresh air.

So funny...I live in Wisconsin now but originally from SC. Today it is 25 and breezy. I am just wearing a sweat shirt and wind breaker. I can relate to the picture though...I remember wearing my thick winter coat when it was 50 degrees in SC.:rotfl2: Now adays....I wear short sleeves until it hits the 40s.

We are also spoiled on the Poly. We stayed at YC last spring for a "change" and it was nice but we SO missed the Poly.

Whoohoo! The last load of laundry is in the wash and it is only 7:33 PM. Usually the last load doesn't go in until sometime after 9.

Kids decided not to swim. Which is ok with me. Too cold for me to swim. It has to be at least 80 for me to get into a pool.

Hard to believe at this time tomorrow night we will be eating at Askerhus having dinner and probably ready to crash.

Dh has been charging the Ipad so I can do updates.

5 weeks from yesterday we arrive at Poly for our 1st CL stay. I'm so excited!!! I'm running my 1st 1/2 marathon that weekend and hoping not to freeze. ;)

What snacks and stuff might we want for our room that won't be available from the lounge? I'm thinking bottled water and maybe some little bags of goldfish for the kids. Suggestions?

Thanks,
Amanda

They have bottles of water in the lounge. You can take them back to your room if you like. They are large glass bottles.

They also offer goldfish crackers as a snack in the afternoons, they put them out from about 11ish....along with uncrustables, sometimes there is chips and salsa and there are always some sort of yummy cookies there too during the mid day offerings. There is also fruit available such as apples, oranges and bananas.

Some pics of the mid day offerings...

They also have pita and hummus as well certain days.

Good luck running! I'll be running too, it'll be my third half (my first two were at Disneyland... going for the Coast-to-Coast medal this year :goodvibes) Won't be at the Poly though, that doesn't happen until my February trip. Hopefully it'll be warmer than last year was :beach:
