This announcement just made my day!! I am one of the unlucky ones who has been assigned a non-smoking room in the past that has been smoked in anyway, YUCK!!!! Now my SSR really will be the HAPPIEST PLACE ON EARTH!
:)  :woohoo: :yay: :upsidedow !:goodvibes :cool1:

What next? People will be complaining that when they go outside they smell smoke. Heck, people already complain around the pool areas. I'm sure people that smoke will not be so considerate when smoking outside the resorts now. At least before it was in their smoking room or on their balcony. Oh yeah, while I know alcohol is legal, please don't drink on your balconey either....the noise annoys me and my daughter has really sensative ears. Plus you may fall off and that could traumatize my daughter:lmao:

We all should be wary of what we wish for. JMHO

Soon, foods that make Americans obese(sp) will be banned for health insurance reasons and supported by the Physicians of America(example).
Cell phones will be banned for causing risk of health issues (cancer, tumors, etc). Cameras won't be allowed (has anyone of you ever had to sign one of those releases from your child's school, I have). Meat won't be allowed because it causes cholesterol and heart problems. Rides will be no longer THRILL rides and made tamer because they could cause all sorts of physical and health issues. Actually THRILL rides have been known at WDW to cause death on a few occasions (?). (I love my thrill rides please don't take those away:love: )

I'm glad that this announcement has made so many very happy for the numerous reasons listed by PP's. Just expressing a thought as to loss of certain things that make different ones of us happier or healthier than others. Once certain things are banned it makes it real easy to ban another. Just thinking out of the box.

The movie "Demolition Man" comes to mind. Have a Joy Joy day citizen!~

Personally this makes me mad. I am not a smoker, but if a smoker PURCHASED DVC they are being deprived. (Personally this strikes me as a much better class action suit then the idiots wanting to sue for commerical renting rights.)

PLUS I can assure you that now that Marriotts are "non smoking" you have to FIGHT your way through the cloud of smoke to get outside. I had a LOT less problems with smoke when they let these people smoke in thier rooms then I do NOW.

To me this is a trend the "legisalture" of what "we think is right" So.... what's next? Drinking will be forbidden since we know that's bad for you too???? Dining plan outlawed since that is contributing to obesity???
It's not about what we think is right or wrong, or what we think is bad for you.
If the action only affects the person doing it, I would agree with you 100%. However, in this case, smoking in the room affects other people, including my reasonable expectaion of having a clean smelling room. :smokin:

Carol,

I must disagree with you. This policy is should not be confused with the current trend of legislating morality. Instead it is a market dirven decision, based upon consumer wants. I am a strongly against current modes of legislating lifestyle (i.e. NYC transfat ban, CA public smoking ban, etc.), as the legaslative body has no buisness tell us how to live our lives, but business should be free to make decision that will benefit the buisnesses.

Didn't see your post Carol. That's the point I think we all should consider if at least only in passing. Forbidden things, be careful what we wish for in regards to any reasoning (health, happiest, harmony) because down the road the Forbidden thing maybe something some of us hold dear.

I agree with your post.

Lots of people are throwing out red herrings in this discussion and getting sidetracked on food and alcohol and assorted pleasures. This new policy has little to do with health and much to do with money (Disney's money).

Bingo! But more importantly (at least to me) my money by increasing shareholder value.

since i have not seen that many posts from smokers, i will take up the battle.

once again all you non smokers whining and compalining get your way

i now find it ironic that disney can call it my 'home away from home'
i can smoke in my home

oh well i guess i won't smoke in my room, but the patio and balcony is ridiculous.

i am also going to start a compaign to ban all drinking and cooking at disney hotels

i find drinking to be a digusting , unhealthy activity.
and i do not want my family or me subject to the possible exposure to a drunk
who might possibly be driving and run us over.

as for cooking i find the smell of many foods replusive and do not want to
have to smell them, and certain foods can linger in a room thru the drapery etc.

Actually, I'm not sure we even know this is true. I am curious to see if this news was posted in error. :smokin:

:confused3 It refers to hotels AND timeshare resorts. How is HH or VB not covered by that?

Actually, the article refers to hotels and timeshare resorts at Walt Disney World (just like you can order the DDP at Walt Disney World Resorts but not at VB or HH). I'm not saying VB or HH is or isn't covered. I'm just mentioning that the article does not specifically refer to VB or HH.

It would be interesting to see the stats on Health Insurance rising costs due to all the different health problems caused by poor eating habits of Americans.

If someone saw PETA or the American Heart Assoc. outside of Le Cellier(sp? I don't eat steak, sorry) asking persons not to eat red meat, it might be offensive to some of us. Others like vegetarians, who may have better health for not eating red meats, might agree. I'm not arguing just saying that the cost for any and all bad habbits comes out of everyone's pocket somewhere.

What is done is that Disney has made that decision for everyone. Now, if we can just make Disney realize to start asserting themselves for all the other policies that are broken daily we can all be happy. Or will we?

I believe that HH is moving to a NS policy also soon, but due to legislation.

Folks have noted the number of DVC contracts currently up for sale on the resale market.

It would be interesting if there were a link between that and this new policy.

After all, if the policy appeared in Vacation Magic magazine, then it was known at least a month ago -- and clearly Disney was discussing it well prior to that point.

I know, it's a crazy thought . . .

Now the news had been released to the world. I did a google news search and found the announcement.

Thanks for posting that link! Yesterday someone posted about this new non-smoking policy over on the Resorts board. I did a google search last night and couldn't find anything about it, so I was skeptical. I couldn't see how a big change like this at Disney wasn't all over the news and I didn't want to get too excited about it until I saw it in print somewhere. So.... now I'm officially excited! :cool1:

But you share your home with me, and I don't want to smell the smoke.
If the next balcony over is smoking, believe it or not it smells very foul on my balcony.

I don't like drunk driving either, but banning drinking in the Disney Resorts will not solve that problem. Actually, it would likely cut down on the drunks driving home from the bars!

I won't address the food thing. :smokin:

I agree (that it's a crazy thought). :thumbsup2 If Disney has been thinking about this, it has also been crunching the numbers.

That is a dilemma faced by smokers practically everywhere today and has nothing to do with Disney.

Transportation to a vacation destination... no smoking.
Dining at a vacation destination... no smoking.
Staying in a room with children or non-smokers... no smoking.

It's not our fathers' world anymore. One can resist (though as we all know, resistance is futile) or adapt. As the number of smokers decreases all the time, it would appear most are choosing to adapt. And with ever dwindling numbers will come more and more restrictions. Fair? I don't know. But it is inevitable.

The thing is, lots of our fathers are still in it, and they are lifelong smokers!!!! They are not going to be able to drop a 65 year habit just because of the whims of modern society, and all the self-righteous nonsmokers out there who whine if a whiff of smoke passes their way on a balcony.

This prevents me from taking my 80 year old dad on vacation with us, and it makes me resentful as all get out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I HATE THIS POLICY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So be happy, all you people. You are denying me a vacation with my dad, who most likely doesn't have long to live. (Severe health issues.)
