When I got home today I found out that all three of my kids won student of the month for December. There are 2 chosen from each class for a different theme. This month it was empathy. Brendan won in Grade 4, and Jessica and Ciara (yes twins) won in Grade 1.

With the week I had (crazy busy at work, fridge and Xbox dying), it just made me realize what really is important. It's difficult as a widowed parent, especially around the holidays, so this made me extra happy. I told them all that their Mommy would have been very proud of them.

Sounds like you're doing an excellent job with them..:thumbsup2 You must be very proud of them..

Hard as it can be, those kids will go a long way in making the holidays a little merrier for you..

That's great--- a very proud parent moment :thumbsup2

Congratulations. You have EVERY reason to be proud. :thumbsup2

I am also sorry to hear that you lost your husband. It sounds like you're doing a terrific job as a single parent. So pat those kids on the back, but don't forget to pat yourself on the back as well.

Wow, if all three of them won student of the month for showing empathy, then you can consider yourself extremely successful as a parent. In my opinion, there are few qualities more important than the ability to show empathy to other people. If you ask me, there is way too little of it in the world today. You must be very proud of your little ones! They are going to walk through this world being kind and compassionate to people and they will be very loved and valued for it.

I'm so very sorry that you were widowed with three young children. I know it is hard. I lost my dad at a young age and the holidays are always difficult. Even though I love the family I have left, I never forget the one who should still be here! But as a previous poster said, you are clearly doing a wonderful job! :thumbsup2

You have every right to be so proud! That is truly wonderful. It is obvious you are doing something very right! One kid would have been pretty great but all 3 is just spectacular! :thumbsup2

I'm glad it came at a time when you needed a little perspective, Happy Holidays! :)

Thanks for sharing this with us it made me smile.:)

That is so wonderful!!! Congratulations to your kids -- and you, too!

How wonderful! What a nice way to end the first half of the school year. :)

Hi alamode,
I appreciate you sharing such a great story. You should be very proud of your children. Also remember to be proud of yourself. It takes a great parent to raise great kids. That is a special parent moment and thank you very much for sharing. :thumbsup2

Sorry that I thought you were the mother. I read your post, then glanced back up to see if mother or father was mentioned as I was responding, but obviously I didn't read when I saw mommy mentioned.

Regardless of that however, you still owe yourself a HUGE pat on the back for the fantastic job you're doing raising those children on your own. You have every right to be very proud. :thumbsup2

Job well done Dad! Empathy is a key characteristic in people who succeed in life...:thumbsup2
