Alcohol in the Magic Kingdom

Walt did indeed walk, he and Roy learned years before to maintain total control of his properties, real and intellectual. The Busch family wanted not only to require beer in the proposed St Louis park but told Walt it would be Bud and only Bud served. If Walt didn't agree, they were going to stop the park by their local political connections. Walt wanted a family park and not another park with drunks around, That was the standard of the day and he was not going o have it.

Walt stood and walked away from the table after being told that and never came back.

This had little to do with money as the Busch family was not putting up any money for the park.

This still comes down to why alcohol in the MK...............anyone can get alcohol anywhere else in WDW, there is no need for it in the MK.

And that's the thing. The "need in Magic Kingdom". The OP suggested only at dinner in table service restaurants. Not kiosks, not red beer cups. I don't think there a suggestion of "need", I think there is a suggestion of "want".

There is no need and any want is covered by the many many other places to get drinks throughout WDW.

MK has never been ALL about the kids. Walt designed it as a place where families could spend time together, and plenty of families don't actually include kids.

I don't see what alcohol in MK has to go with kids. No one is suggesting getting drunk or engaging in behavior that would make the environment unsafe for kids. The other parks have alcohol, I'm confident my kids are safe there.

Um ha..yeah...I know the park was designed for ALL ages. All of the things you, yourself just said are things that happen when alcohol is involved. I would sure hope you are right about nobody ever getting drunk.......ever. :faint:zzzzzzzzzzz

I'm fine with No alcohol in the Magic Kingdom. Alcohol is available at all the other parks and resort. A restaurant with a alcoholic beverage is a monorail ride away.

Actually, it's only a walk to Fantasyland away.

There seems to be a major disconnect about BOG already having & serving alcohol. I'm not sure why that is.

If you can get an ADR for BOG which is near to impossible. They only serve the liquor at Dinner. You can't go at lunch and have a beer. There's also alcohol served at the CLUB in DL but most visitors don't have access to it.

What alcohol is offered in MK is extremely limited.

Nobody eats there because there are too many people eating there? Why am I seeing Yogi Berra's face... :rotfl:

I was not saying that. There was no Yogi Berra in my statement. You complete misunderstood me. What I was saying is that you have to jump through hoops to get a drink in MK. They limit the time it is served. So it's not like you can just walk into the BOG bar and order alcohol

One drink menu in a hard to get into restaurant. If no one wanted to eat there trust me you could walk in. Everyone wants to go there because it's the dang beast castle. Not cause it's liquor restaurant.

My apologies, your comment about MK being ALL about the kids implied that you had no idea that it wasn't ALL about the kids.

I also didn't say that no one would ever get drunk, people manage to be stupid everywhere. All people are suggesting here is a glass of wine with a meal might be nice. Considering there aren't drunks falling over themselves all over the other parks, I don't know why that would happen to MK if alcohol were allowed to be served more widely.

Was BOG built on new/expanded land, or on top of the previous FantasyLand location? I wonder if there's a permitting/zoning/legal reason that they don't serve alcohol in the Magic Kingdom.

I hope you're done editing by the time I reply, or this will look out of place.

I'm not sure why you think offering a selection of alcoholic drinks would turn "MK TS Restaurant X" into "Bacchus's Fantasy." In any event, to say that you prefer "no alcohol in the MK" when there already is alcohol in the MK just seems disingenuous.

Than I don't think you will understand. I am fine with it served in a limited way. And BOG is limited so I don't think it disingenous. I disagree with you about it being served everywhere in MK. Is that a bad thing?

Sorry I re-edit a great deal. And I have seen bad behavior in other parks due to alcohol.

1) I have zero idea if Walt would put booze into MK.
2) I have asked, but he does not answer.
3) I guess no Email where he is right now.

4) Regardless of Walt's opinion, my own belief is to NOT have booze in MK.
. . . yes, I know about Club-33
. . . my company is a member, and I have enjoyed meals there several times
. . . however, it is not open to the general public, and was originally meant as a place to take important vendors and customers of Disney
. . . and, anyone who "acts up" or overly imbibes has the membership cancelled
. . . and there are LOTS of folks and companies waiting in line to get a membership
5) Eventually, there are going to be folks who drink too much and cause problems at MK.
6) Sure, the other parks have "magic", but MK to me IS the magic.
7) I do not like the risk of someone really destroying the magic just because alcohol is offered to the general public.

NOTE: Again, this is my only personal opinion, and I am certain others hold the opposite viewpoint. But, I am an Old Guy (I can remember when Moby Dick was just a minnow) and I am pretty staid in my opinions.

Thank you RustyScupper you said it better than I could.

I'm just baffled by the "keep the MK dry!" & "keep the liquor out!" comments on this thread (not only from you). It's already there. That ship has sailed. What we can all disagree about is whether or not service should be expanded beyond that point.

I'm old so I do remember that when MK was DRY Park. So BOG doesn't automatically come to mind where alcohol is served. And It was dry a long time before BOG arrived and it was okay. I agree with you on the final point. I don't think is should be expanded beyond BOG because I would be the lucky one who was stuck behind the rare one who had a few too many and decided to ride Big Thunder afterwards.

Because I have that kind of luck.
