I have friends/family who specifically go to EPCOT to get drunk drinking "around the World". Are these same friends going to go to MK to drink? Maybe not to get drunk, but I'll bet you they will go just to drink at BoG. Being a non-drinker myself, I have gone with these same friends, and just felt uncomfortable, but gone just because they're my friends (and my younger sis), and I love them. MK is the one place I didn't have to worry about! I'm not kidding! I've been the one to take the kids to go "do something else" (kid-friendly) while my friend and sis went to get drinks at EPCOT. I would rather not have to worry about family/friends at least in ONE PARK. It would just be nice. That's all I'm saying

I totaly agree. This is another point is why does theMK have to have alcohol, there are [lenty of other places on property. I see no reason (other then profit) to take that bit of magic away from the MK, it made the park more specail.

Here's what gets me. I see so many trip reports on these boards that outline in great detail every bit of food that passes through some posters' mouths. The sheer gluttony in some of them is appalling. I remember a cruise report where the OP was admittedly obese, and at one dinner had around three appetizers, two entrees and three desserts.

At a time when diabetes and obesity is at an all time high, no one ever complains about how disgusting it is - in fact, people beg for these reports - or acknowledges how unhealthy these guests' eating habits are. Yet, start serving wine with dinner, something that has health benefits, and the world is going to hell in a hand basket, kids are being corrupted and parents are alcoholics.

Priorities are so skewed.

Plus when Walt set the rule in place, it was the start of the hippy era! Beards had a whole different conotaction then today

Anyway, beards had a different connotation back in the 60s, but then again, so did alcohol in theme parks. A glass of wine with a fancy restaurant meal is not the same as beer in a plastic cup as you wander around a travelling carnival.

AGAIN...assuming you know someone. Honestly, that is really great that you have read and studied a lot about him. However, times have changed drastically since he was alive. I do not feel you should assume how he would feel in 2012. We evolve with the times....maybe Walt would have liked what is happening and maybe he would not. Bottom line is we will never know how he would feel if he were here today.

He held this belief for years and reverseing this no one has any proof that he would have changed his opinion. Lets face it the MK is not suffered from poor attendance!

I agree thing have changed, but watching things at epcot I dont think they have changed that much......and yes a glass or wine or beer will not cvhange the MK, except in spirit.

I truly feel it will spread like in Epcot with time!

Some background: I'm an author. My latest draft of a novel featured Walt Disney as a character. I've been watching endless documentaries this past summer to try to get a feel for his manner of speaking and overall character (and my goodness does that man do avuncular well!). My husband's been along for the ride.

So, with that in mind, I just texted my husband that I was on a message board being entertained by people's reactions to the news about BOG serving wine and beer with dinner. I ended it with "What would Walt think?"

My husband replied: "I think he'd order a glass of shiraz and smile."

I don't know if I like the idea of alcohol in MK. It loses it's innocence somehow for me. There are plenty of places to drink all over WDW. Is this really necessary?! My husband and I had a "champagne" toast with apple cider in Cinderella's castle for our honeymoon and it made it that much more magical. IMO - MK is for children and the child at heart.

I mayb e wrong on this but he was not a wine and beer guy...........his drinkwas a scotch mist after the work day ened and he was having his neck massaged due to a old polo aciddent and neck injury

Really? Who are you to judge others eating habits?? How does that affect you personally? If you choose to eat healthy and exercise, good for you, but it is really none of your business that others don't. If you don't want to read a food review, then don't!

But, one thing I will agree with, peoples priorities are very skewed, especially yours.

LOL.Tonika is a soux word for long lived and high spirited. Dad brought Toaka in 1958 and said if she survives all 3 sons she was well named......................right now hsea about 150 feet down the path to the lake very happily at her morring. shes a 22' 1954 Chris Craft Sea skiff!

Fair enough!......its a very specail place.............when I visited DL the first time I felt like I was walking into heaven!.,.. I stood for about 5 minutes just looking up at the apartment over the friehouse!

While I'm not 100% on board with this post, the last part I totally agree with! I live in Utah and our entire state is based on denying the rights of others, not teaching moderation, and villianizing anyone who drinks alcohol.

Sure there is no proof that he would have changed his mind, but there is no proof he would not have. I consider myself young and I can say I will no doubt be looking at the world differently in another thirty years than I do today. That is what is so great about life. We live, we learn, we experience, and we evolve with the times. You seem like a great guy. I just wish you and others would just state your opinions based on your personal feelings and not based on Walt. And that is just my personal feelings.

It's hard to say because frankly people drank a LOT more casually in his day, than they do now. And the middle class particularly liked their hard liquor and spirits.

Just take a look at any cookbook published in the 1950's! Some of those "garden party punches" were enough to make you go blind.

As a man of his time, Walt would very likely have had a liquor cabinet in his office. He may have enjoyed a gin and scotch or a martini at lunch. One of his daughters used the word "tipsy" to describe him on the evening of Disneyland's grand opening.

A Shiraz? At the time, most likely not, but if he was still around today, then quite possibly yes. The culture of drinking has shifted considerably, with wine becoming more popular, while scotch has become more of a "niche" taste.

Disneyland opened in 1955, not at the start of "the hippie era".

This is exactly what WD wanted to avoid. The carnival atmosphere. And MK will not be like a carnival no matter if they put in a bar on Main St.
