Sure there is no proof that he would have changed his mind, but there is no proof he would not have. I consider myself young and I can say I will no doubt be looking at the world differently in another thirty years than I do today. That is what is so great about life. We live, we learn, we experience, and we evolve with the times. You seem like a great guy. I just wish you and others would just state your opinions based on your personal feelings and not based on Walt. And that is just my personal feelings.:)

Why thank you young lady. you made a old captian smile!

well my opinions are basicly based on what I feel Walts wishes were!

In any case..........I am sure tommorrow they will start again, but I have been baited enough for one day:thumbsup2

Disneyland opened in 1955, not at the start of "the hippie era".

It may have been the VERY early start of the hippie era! but beards were not popular in 1955 and were not considerred a *NICE appearence*

And MK will not be like a carnival no matter if they put in a bar on Main St.

Not so sure of that!

I don't see any BOG ADRs opening up on the cancellation threads as a result of this announcement, so I doubt Disney gives two iotas about some irate e-mails.

Walt didn't want drunk riff raff upsetting the family atmosphere, I don't think they ever will in MK. (and if it does get bad they can just ban the value resort guests from BOG) [jk]

It's hard to say because frankly people drank a LOT more casually in his day, than they do now. And the middle class particularly liked their hard liquor and spirits.

Just take a look at any cookbook published in the 1950's! Some of those "garden party punches" were enough to make you go blind.

As a man of his time, Walt would very likely have had a liquor cabinet in his office. He may have enjoyed a gin and scotch or a martini at lunch. One of his daughters used the word "tipsy" to describe him on the evening of Disneyland's grand opening.

A Shiraz? At the time, most likely not, but if he was still around today, then quite possibly yes. The culture of drinking has shifted considerably, with wine becoming more popular, while scotch has become more of a "niche" taste.

agreed!

Have you read the Eric Seveid eulogy for Walt?

Its the best I ahve seen about him and what he did for this tired old world!

So, just wondering, why didn't he want to allow drinking in the parks?

Most likely not....its all about suits and bean counters today!

It is what it is. If the powers that be have reason to change the policy down the line, I'm sure they will. Alcohol in MK will not change the atmosphere, unless you let it change it for you.

Curious if some people here have been to any non-Disney parks to really see what it looks like not to have the magic? I can't see Disney ever being like that...booze or no booze.

He didnt want DL to have a carnival atomsphere...........he didnt want the drunks around or as just posted riff raft....he wanted a clean family park ........:thumbsup2.

So taking EPCOT out of the equation, what about Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom. Are they not considered a clean family park? Plenty of places to drink there.

Are you asking me?

I have a beard!

But more to your point I ilke the clean look of Cm,s, beards are no biggy.

Plus when Walt set the rule in place, it was the start of the hippy era! Beards had a whole different conotaction then today

AKK

I was just pointing out a change to a rule made partially to get more people into the parks which equals money. People need to stop thinking about Disney as some sort of religion that is beholden to a god (Walt) and realize that it is a business beholden to its stockholders of which I am one.

Really? Who are you to judge others eating habits?? How does that affect you personally? If you choose to eat healthy and exercise, good for you, but it is really none of your business that others don't. If you don't want to read a food review, then don't!

But, one thing I will agree with, peoples priorities are very skewed, especially yours.

Way to miss the point. It has nothing to do with wanting to read reviews and everything with with moderation and behaviors being modeled.

People on these boards encourage the crappy diets of others, kid and adults alike, at a time when there is a real obesity epidemic. And it does ultimately affect others. Yet, someone has the opportunity to order a glass of wine at dinner, and all of a sudden there is this outrage that family values are being lost and adults have a drinking problem.

It's ridiculous.

So, just wondering, why didn't he want to allow drinking in the parks?

Because he was attempting to create a new kind of park. Not a carnival atmosphere, but somewhere families could bring their children.

His concern was that offering alcohol would bring in single adults whose only desire would be getting drunk. The wrong sort, in other words. And that kind of adult party atmosphere would drive away the families he was trying to appeal to.

He'd identified his market and was trying to make sure that he'd created a park that would attract them, and only them.

Since then, the Disney corporation has broadened their market appeal considerably.

Sorry......the lady I talked to has been givining out the addy to many very upset people., she siad easily 90% agianist!

EVERYONE.Please send a email and complain!

AKK

Why should I complain, I like others like this idea. I will be emailing to say thanks for it though!

I would say this http://www.garlikov.com/philosophy/slope.htm

Here's an excerpt:" The slippery slope argument is clearly invalid if it is meant to be a point of logic, for it does not follow that "if b is an exception to A, then no part of A is true." Specific exceptions to a rule or principle do not in any way logically imply that the rule is otherwise false or never justifiably applicable in any cases. In fact, calling something an "exception" points out that only it is the relevant act that the rule does not cover. If, for example, a pharmaceutical drug should be used only by people who have asthma, that does not imply people should also take it for arthritis or pregnancy. Permitting stem cell research on embryos does not logically imply that sacrificing infants or terminally ill patients is acceptable."

This is just another opinion just like mine, it is just from Mr. Garkilov:confused3

Holy crap...I've been on the Dis since 2001 and this ranks in the top 5 of pissing contests. Get over it people, it's a done deal no matter if Walt wanted it or not:rotfl2:

I was on the phone for hours to get my ADR to BOG... I think that a glass of wine for myself, and a beer for my husband will make it a little more magical.

Me too

Just curious what were the top 5 before this one came about?
