Alaska Companion Fare

I posted in the credit card thread but there is so much going on there that im sure it got lost.

My companion are is set to expire next month. I do not have any travel plans coming up. How can I make sure I do not lose it. Can I book a flight for later on and then change it? Does Alaska charge fees to change date or destination?

Any help is appreciated.

I remember you asking on the cc thread. Sorry it was overlooked. I don't know much about it, but I did find through google it just has to be redeemed before it expires, but the travel cal be outside the 12 months.

As for changing...the Faqs say no changes once it has expired.

Thanks. That thread moves very quickly .

I know I can book ahead, but I do not have plans and if I dont use it I will loose it. But my question is more I book anything say for February will I be able to make changes to the flight after since I am not sure on any destinations at the moment. Except for Disney of course.

Based on the FAQ it looks like once it is expired you cannot change it...so it is stuck on whatever it is booked for or you lose it. You could call to verify that, but that’s how I read it.

Unless you are buying a very expensive ticket the change fees even if allowed would eat up any savings. You are still going to pay the taxes on the companion fare, $121 lower 48, $145 Hawaii last time I used mine.

Thanks. Since we are all going to be getting AP after our Christmas trip i guess ill check on which days we will be going and book for that. I have one month to decide on how to use it. or Maybe ill do a couples quick vacation near by.
