We usually do the parks in the morning, but on this trip we are planning to do an e night Friday 8/1 and sleep in the next morning. We want to do AK that Saturday, arriving at the park around noon or a little after. Does anyone have a touring strategy to avoid crowds if you enter the park that late. We absolutely want to see Safari (of course); ITTBAB; primeval twirl; Triceratop Spin; Festival of the Lion King; and the Parade. We would like to see (but not absolutely necessary) Tarzan; bird show; spend time in the boneyard.

The only point I have to make is that you should wait until between 3-5 for the Safari ride. i have had some pretty short waits later in the afternoon or get some fast passes shortly after you arrive. Some of my late afternoon Safaris have been the best, with lotd of animals out and about.

In my opinion AK is the most crowded around noon. We just got back and either did it early morning till about noon or went at about 3:30 and stayed till closing.

The Safari has no wait right before the park closes and makes for a nice ride.

Also Tough to be a bug didn't have a wait during the last hour of the park being opened. Same with the rides in Dinoland - they usually have short waits during the end of the day.

Probably getting there around noon would be okay, but just to warn you it probably will be crowded. You can always get a fast pass for primeval whirl and catch the shows you want to see and then in the last hour do Tough to be a bug, Primeval Whirl with or without fastpass and the safari.

Also it's fun when the rides are crowded to do the trails where you can go at your own pace and stay away from the main crowd hubub.

Hope this helps and feel free to ask any other questions.

I think cavepig nailed it; plan to use FP and do the shows during the crowded time of day. Use FP and expect the rides to have short standby lines late in the day.

During one of our visits, we rode the Dinasour Ride, the Safari Ride, and watched ITTBAB all in the last hour before park closing. There was no FP or parade during that visit; for your visit, use FP

My only advice is if you're doing AK in the afternoon in summer, watch the skies. When it starts raining, there aren't alot of places to duck into to escape the downpour. You want to be near shelter before the deluge.;)

Thank you so much for your sage advice. I will do exactly as you suggest.

We often arrive at the Animal Kingdom after 11 a.m. or so - we like to sleep in some mornings :). First thing I would do is find out what time the shows are - especially the ones that are must sees for your group. One time Lion King's last show was 2 p.m., so we had to adjust our plans because it is one of our most favorite live shows at WDW.

Also, try to find out what time the parade is. When the parade begins near the safari entrance, we usually watch the parade in Harambe near where it begins. As soon as it is over, we catch the safari. We have seen many, many animals even in the late afternoon. We usually have time to walk through the gorilla trail (I never remember it's current name :) ) before the park closes.

Enjoy the AK!!

Harambe: Yes, I will be punished with long long lines.:p
