Airfare to aulani from LAX

We are going to Aulani in June. Official as of today!!! We are from Texas so I'm not familiar with typical LAX-HNL airfare. It's sitting about $577 and has for some time. For those who have watched it, is that a fairly good price or can you usually get it lower?

Just a curious question, but are you staying in LA for a period of time before Aulani, or just looking at airfare that goes through LAX to get to HNL? I only ask because I know there are some other west coast airports that offer better fares to Hawaii than LAX. But if you are going to LAX first, then it makes total sense.

We are going to add Disneyland to the end of our trip. That's the reason for LAX. Good thinking though!

I'm from the east coast and we did Disneyland last year. First time ever and I highly recommend it. My wife had to be in San Diego for work. I flew out with the kids later and we all went to Disneyland.

Being the airfare Nazi that I am, here is my suggestion. Book a 1 way flight from Texas to Hawaii since it sounds like you are going there first. For the flight from Hawaii, check out San Diego as an option. It's only a 2 hour drive to Disneyland (unless you are driving at a crazy traffic time as I'm not up on the Traffic out there. It only took us 2 hours). Unless a flight home from LAX is cheaper than San Diego, but for us (I've looked into hypothetical Aulani trips for myself) it's cheaper to use San Diego. Of course this would require a rental car (and I'm assuming you would be renting one anyway for Disneyland) Try using Priceline. I've gotten phenominal rental car deals with the name your own price. I'm talking extreme low ball offers and increasing $1 a day on my bids. Gotten standard size cars for $18 a day.....thru hertz at LAX.

Good luck with it and keep checking those fares. But what day of the week are you traveling? I'm seeing weekday flights direct to LAX fro HNL for $436 direct late in the month, and $337 earlier in the month. Make sure it's a 1 way flight from HNL to LAX you are searching for. Try Orbits and Kayak.

I can tell you that the cheapest fares I found for one-way between LAX & HNL for last August was between $250-$275 before it skyrocketed up to over $400 one-way. I bought our air in January, a couple of weeks after we booked DL & Aulani (I paid $272 pp one-way). I would guess that if you are talking about ROUND TRIP for summer that fares in / out of LAX would likely be in the $500's.

Ok....here's on more thing...and this is why airfare always makes no sense.


There is a flight on June 24th (just a random day I picked) that is a Delta flight. It leaves HNL at 11:30 am and travels to LAX. It is $442. Now, the EXACT SAME FLIGHT if you book HNL to San Diego..... Delta from HNL to LAX and continuing on to SAN(basically a flight with a stop over) is only $383.

Now, if I were to book the flight to San Diego.....only pack carry on items (since if you check luggage it would be sent to San Diego) and just get off the plane at LAX.....you would save $59 per person instead of booking it from HNL to LAX. How does this make any sense????????
