Dd9 wants a pair of tall Uggs for a couple years now. I have been trying to talk her into Uggs style instead of real Uggs but I know she would be so so happy if she would get a pair of Uggs for Christmas. I can afford it but I don't even spend more than 40 dollars for a pair of my own shoes, let alone 140 for a pair of kid shoes. However, I know she would be very very happy. I am torn, what should I do? I wish Bearpaw made kids tall boots too.
Please give me any advices you can. Thank you very much.

I'm in the same boat as you. I'd love to get my girls real Uggs and I can afford it, but I ultimately decided not to. I am careful with my money and I can't imagine one pair of boots being half of their Christmas budget. Especially when their feet are still growing! I've never spent more than $40 on any type of footwear for myself either, and I wear the same pair of shoes for years and years. My girls always need new shoes after one year.
I even considered getting Bear Paws on sale, but they were $60. Couldn't do it. I ended up getting knock offs from Sears that look really cute. Mulberry, I think? They were $20, great colors, and my girls will love them. I might reconsider when they're older and their feet stop growing (maybe! ;) ) but not now.

Hi. I can relate a lot. My dd is 11 and it also has been years she is asking.

Her feet really don't grow a lot, so I did get them for her this Xmas. I have been hesitant in the past. I purchased a size larger, so that if her feet do decide to grow, they will last. Doubt that.

I am going on year 4 or 5 with mine. I lost track. It was the best $ I have ever invested in boots. I live in a reallly snowy area, along with ice, salt, you name it. Mine do now have some salt around the toe area, but nothing too major. My SIL did give me some GREAT advice, and that was to use scotchguard on them. As soon as I received them, I treated them, and every once in a while. It was WAY less $ than the ugg spray, and seems to have lasted really well.

So, even you break down mine were 200$ or so, that is 40 or 50$ per year on boots, and to me that is great.

I have had every knock off prior to my UGGS, and nothing really lasted. So to me it was spend the $, and to me at least, you really get what you pay for.

Good luck to you, whatever you decide. :goodvibes

Keep watching 6pm.com. During the summer I got dd a pair of tall black uggs for $48. I dont think they have them in there now but that can change. They do have other uggs on there.

How old is your DD? Can she wear women's sizes? 6pm.com has Ugg classic cardys for $70. They're tall, but they're a sweater material. I have a pair and love them, but they're not great for snow. If you live in an area that doesn't get a lot of snow, maybe those would be a more reasonable option?

Idk how much your Christmas budget is for your DD, but if they fit in your budget and it's what she really wants, I'd say get them for her. I think her excitement will totally outweigh the fact that she might not have as many gifts under the tree. Also, Uggs run big, so she should have some growing room in them. I will say, you really do get what you pay for. Mine look terrible because I didn't treat them (could kick myself for that one!), but they are in great shape and I think will last me for a few more years with heavy wear.

My DD is 12 and has asked for Uggs and a Northface jacket for Christmas. She understands that she will only have a few gifts to open, since this are large ticket items - she was fine with that. I would rather buy her what she wants, the a bunch of small things to equal that price that she doesn't want, most likely won't wear and she won't like her gifts.

I say if you can afford it and it is want she REALLY wants, then go for it. Depending oin your DD's shoe size, she might fit into a childs size which is cheaper.

I feel your pain though, I just bought 3 pairs last night :scared1:, all 3 of my DD's asked for them!!! I thought my DH was gonna pass out!

Happy Holidays!

I was thinking about this last night before I went to sleep, because I see a lot of similar questions about buying the expensive "in" brands for the kids, and although my kids are in college now, I was thinking back to when they were younger. Thankfully, Northface and Uggs weren't the rage back then, but there were other things -- like the real Adidas with the 3 stripes vs the cheaper brands with 2 stripes, etc.

I'm the first to be cheap, or frugal if you will, but sometimes I think you have to think about the kid, especially if you have a child that has self esteem issues or a low confidence level. Like when my kids were wearing braces... And it is tough being a kid these days. So, if you can afford it, and if your child might hold his head up a little higher and feel a little bit more confident about the way he or she looks, then I think it's worth it to spend the extra money, especially if it is also a high quality item, like the Uggs or Northface.

I hear what you're saying tho about buying things for them, that you don't buy for yourself. I bought my first pair of Uggs for myself yesterday. I did that mainly because for health reasons, I'm trying to take daily walks, and my feet always always always get super cold, then they feel cold for a few hours after I get back home. It was the first time I even tried on Uggs, and they were so comfortable, I could not believe it!

Oh, and thanks for the comment about the scotchguard. I was wondering if it was really necessary to buy one of the expensive brand protectors (I didn't buy any, thinking that we might have some of the Walmart stuff that my husband uses on his work boots). Any one else have any comments on what to use?

I'm in the same situation, although thankfully my girls (9 and 6) didn't actually put them on their list. I was in my 1st graders classroom yesterday and, while I know we live in a pretty affluent town, I was shocked at how many girls had them. My girls know my feelings about them...far too much money (regardless of what you have to spend) on shoes they will outgrow quickly and they have been very happy with other styles of boots we've picked out the past 2 winters. In a few years I may be facing a stronger fight when it comes to this stuff.

Onto your question: I guess it depends on your daughter - if she understands that there will be fewer gifts but she still wants them, I would get them. In some ways that's a good lesson to learn (if I want something costly, it means a sacrifice). We've done that with birthdays - if you want a larger kids party someplace special, that is a large part of your gift for that year.

My DD13 has been wanting UGGS for the last 2 years. We have bought bear paws and Emu and on the Top of her Xmas list is still UGGS. So, even though the others might hold them off, they still want what they want. This year her grandma is getting her the UGGS but she knows that this is all Grandma is getting her. Despite all they other things I have picked up for her for Xmas I'm sure the UGGS will be the only thing she remebers in a few months (well, maybe the North face jacket I got a great deal on too :cool1:)

.

All Uggs have a disclaimer that says they are not for use in snow or heavy walking. While they are all very warm, they are not designed to stay nice looking and dry in inclement weather.

Back OT , I made my DD wait until I was nearly certain her feet would not be growing before purchasing her Uggs. We do live in Southern suburbs of Buffalo NY so we do get a lot of snow and she is not to wear them unless she knows she will not be out in the snow--if DH drives her to school and I pick her up, etc. She knows to take them off and put on winter boots for the walk to the bus stop and change when she gets to school. She also did not need any "school clothes" at back to school time, so the whole back to school budget could be spent on the pair she really wanted, not what I could get cheap.

BTW I never spend that kind of money on footwear, my hand was shaking when I handed over the credit card and was signing the slip, lol!

i have...several...Piars of UGGS and swear by them ( we live in NH...COLD)
so of course my daughter loves mine...Last xmas when she was 8 I bought her, her 1st pair..I grabbed them at our local shoe store when they were 20% so that helped....I just bought her a larger pair a few month ago and she loves them/ wears them all the time. shes 9 now and on her 2nd pair ...we LOVE THEM and i dont Mind it .....

My DD6 has a pair of the classic short and loves them. I can't justify spending the $ to buy me a pair, but DD having toasting warm feet is important to me.

Last fall my mother bought my DD (then age 6) a pair of chestnut Uggs.. I thought she was nuts, but hey, it's her money. She wore them all last fall/winter and they still fit her this year, but they are getting a little ratty looking. Santa is bringing her a pair of Classic Short Pink Uggs for Christmas. I know that she'll wear them, and I bought the protectant spray so hopefully these will last longer.

So if you can afford them, and they are what she really wants, I'd get them for her. :santa:

Hi can you tell me if the 2 websites you mention on here are real UGGS I have been burned once before I have 4 girls and 1 son and i'm getting them for all 4 girls so I would like a great deal but am willing to pay full on the UGG site in order to know for sure that they are really real thanks

6pm.com is legit, they are the clearence area/sister site of zappos.

Be careful what kind/color you buy. For my DD the short chestnut, beige, or black is all the girls will wear around here. The cardy ones are not cool. I am sure it is different everywhere. Hopefully they were specific as to the color/style/height they want.

wow that is interesting her in pa my older daughter;s all kinds including cardey and all the younger kids have all colors

If it is something she really really wants, than I would get them. I would rather give my DD a few items she really wants than a bunch of items she doesn't really want just because they are cheaper.

My DD is 8 and I got Uggs for her last year. This is her seond winter wearing the same pair. She wears them constantly. They have held up very well and next winter I will get her a new pair.
