Advice please - just speculating at mo.......

Back to the insurance question - Am I right in thinking your insurance is for yourself & eve so Phil's pre existing condition should not matter?? You would be chaging/cancelling due to "illness of a family member". Surely we can not be exptected to detail all our families medical history when booking holidays. :confused3 What about elderley parents etc etc

Best of luck sorting it all out.

unfortunately insurance companies do expect you to admit to any relative that has pre existing conditions IF you would cancel your holiday due to that relative becoming ill or passing away. I know it seems far fetched but they often refuse to pay out for such matters.

Alison, I agree that you should speak to these companies individually as you may find that they could be sympathetic. Either way I really hope you and Phil find the strength you need at this tough time.

I have no experience of cancelling/changing a trip but I just wanted to send you and your family a hug.

You are a very brave and strong person, my thoughts are with you and your family.

Alison, you are an amazing person, the way that you are dealing with this whole situation, I can't imagine what you are going through right now but my thoughts are with you and yours in this sad situation. Do take care and let us know if we can do anything for you.

Oh, my. Well, Carol, then travel insurance is very different in the UK than the US and I'm left wondering under what circumstance your travel insurance would cover you if not for such an emergency? Please, regard that as a rhetorical question and one that reflects my amazement that such a thing might be true. I'm sure that Alison's thread is not the appropriate place for a discussion of the fairness of the insurance industry which, after all, is a for profit business.

Alison, with all that's on your mind, you shouldn't have to worry about whether or not you will lose money that you paid for this vacation two years ago. I do know that "customer service" is too often a misnomer these days, but I can't think help thinking that decent people, regardless of any company's policy, would not regard your circumstance as extraordinary and treat you humanely. My best wishes for a little every day Magic to aid you with reschedulilng your trip.

nothing constructive to add except thinking of you at this time, i hope that you can get something sorted out:grouphug :grouphug: lots of love you are such a strong lady Gill

Phil passed away, peacefully, this afternoon

He appeared pleased when I told him the outcome of the meeting yesterday and asked to see Eve :goodvibes

Eve, Laura and myself all went in to see him and I got a call from the hospital this morning.

I was able to be with him when he died and feel that everything possible had been done to make him comfortable.
Thank you for all your lovely messages :grouphug:

Laura and Phil's mate, Mark, are here at the moment and we're all off to drink a toast of JD to Phil.
