Advice please - just speculating at mo.......

Alison-my what a brave, caring, special person you are.I was upset reading your update.I can't understand what you are going thru as everyone is different, but i am going thru my half-sister(26yrs)in hospital dying from cancer+i know how hard that is.(I don't know your religion) but i am sending prayers for you+your family.x.

Glad you got on well at the hospital.

Love to you and also to Michelle xx

big hugs to you, you are a brave lady, I am thinking of you xx
big hugs to you and your family Michelle x

Thank you all :grouphug:

Sorry to hear about your half sister Michelle but thank you for the prayers
Although I'm a bit of a sceptic when it comes to religion, they'll mean a lot to Phil :flower3:
He's a great believer in Angels and was 'talking' to some in the room last night :)
I've not seen him so happy and animated in a long while :goodvibes

My friends have been really supportive over the last few months and it's helped, very much, having support from all my DIS buddies :thumbsup2

Thank you all again.
I really wish I was some kind of millionaire and could whisk away everyone who has been so kind and helpful-both my friends and Eve's...........................:upsidedow

My 'best friend' went away on a 'road trip', on his bike, last Thursday and I'm desperately trying not to let him know how things are progressing as I know he'd be on the next ferry home
He held the fort whilst Eve and I were away last week so I'm trying, hard, to keep my texts rather vague when he asks if we're all ok ;)

I can not imagine what you're going through but sending you lots of :grouphug: and prayers.

Back to the insurance question - Am I right in thinking your insurance is for yourself & eve so Phil's pre existing condition should not matter?? You would be chaging/cancelling due to "illness of a family member". Surely we can not be exptected to detail all our families medical history when booking holidays. :confused3 What about elderley parents etc etc

Best of luck sorting it all out.

Thank you all :grouphug:

That's ok :flower3: To me Phil 'talking' to someone in the room-that's a lovely sign.x.
(may i also thank everyone for there hugs for me+my sister).x.

Alison hugs hugs and hugs to you.
I have found from past experience that Virgin were very sympathetic to certain situations, so if you need to amend then do give them a ring. Nothing is certain but I was pleasantly surprised.

Alison - can't offer you any advice as to what to do about your holiday, just wanted you to know how much I admire you for the way you are dealing with this sad situation.

Hope Phil finds comfort, and you and Eve make the right decision for everyone:grouphug:

Take care
Annie

Hi again :)

The insurance is part of my current account 'extras' so, to be quite honest, I'm not sure how it works :confused3
Phil has been unable to get insurance, for the US, for the last couple of years - his last quote was 'around' £9000 :scared1:

The holiday is just for Eve and I but I suspect that the 'family member' having a pre-existing condition could make things awkward-despite the fact that surgery wasn't part of the plan when we booked and pneumonia definitely wasn't supposed to be part of the package

I'll see what Virgin and Disney say then call into my local branch to see if they are able to decipher the 'small print' jargon for me :thumbsup2

Alison you are such a brave and wonderful lady, sending you and Eve lots of hugs

And a hug for you too Michelle, cancer is a horrid thing

I just wish I could wrap my arms around you all and give you a great big hug:grouphug: , you really are an inspirational lady:flower3:

I think you might be surprised at the reaction of the various companies (insurance included) to this scenario.

Reading between the lines, it sounds as though Phil's ready to let go and that you're respectful of that. Hugs to you all. Keep us updated.

Not often I get emmotional reading posts but you managed to do it to me, glad everyones gone to bed:goodvibes
Just wanted to say if Virgin refuse to do anything for you 1st try, write or email explaining. They just might have a heart.
When my Mum passed away 4 years ago we had a flight booked with us for Florida, 1st Expedia said under no circumstances would they refund her ticket. I sent email direct to Continental who could not have been more careing, they told Expedia to refund me imediately.
Not used Expedia since. How shortsighted are some companies?

Alison,
We had to use our Disney travel insurance three times--twice to rearrange trips (one of them less than 24 hours before we were supposed to leave for California) and the third time to cancel a trip when my husband died. My husband's health was extremely brittle the last ten years of his life. He had extraordinary pre-existing conditions but was never prevented from buying travel insurance or invoking it when needed. To be sure, medical insurance was problematic and life insurance was out of the question as those are all about pre-existing conditions, but Disney travel insurance never required a clean bill of health to buy or use--and that's insurance for the travelers. It would be a poor (useless!!) travel insurance if you couldn't call upon it for a close (the closest) family member's illness. And about the airline--though the category of air tickets we had for the two trips that had to be rescheduled didn't allow for a refund and had stated fees for any change, the airlines, once they knew that Scott was in the hospital, waved the fee and rescheduled the flights for us when we could make the trips. The people at Disney Travel and at the airlines were helpful, sensitive, and compassionate. Surely the people you will need to talk to will treat you well. But how about this? Why don't you have a friend make the calls for you? You have your hands full and I'll bet that your loved ones all want to do something to help you, so let them.

As you are taking such good care of Phil, you must be sure to take care of yourself. I wish you strength and peace. Susan
