Advice on doing Disney with an Infant

Hi all-

Well I am not due till August-- but we would like to go to the Food and Wine Festival in October (dh and my annual tradition), but this time around we will be going there with an infant-- who probably will be around 2 months old at the time. We are definately planning on spending the night (at a value resort).

I was looking for advice from others who have gone with a young infant.

Our daughter was around 3 mths old on her first trip to Disney. She did wonderful!!! A true Disney fan now. We just strapped her on and went on our way. No troubles at all. Maybe if you took the stroller just in case the baby wanted to lie down. We found that the carrier worked better because she was close to us the whole time. She enjoyed the closeness and our movement. Also left our hands free. Have fun and congratulations on the new baby. Hope your pregnancy is going well.

We've done disney with a 6 mth old, and a 9 mth old twice (different kids, different yrs). Infants are easy. Take a stroller and front carrier and you'll be fine. October shouldn't be too hot and make use of the baby care center at epcot it is nice.

I agree. Infants are usually pretty easy to travel with. My dd was 3 months on her first trip to Disney and it was a piece of cake. I think its much easier to travel with an infant than a toddler.

I took my son at 6mo & he loved looking around at everything. We just stopped to feed & change him every so often. The baby center at Animal Kingdom is very nice too. Air conditioned & clean.

For a young infant, I would highly, highly recommend a sling instead of a front carrier. Actually, as much as I loved my Baby Bjorn carrier for DS, since I got my MayaWrap sling for DD, I've hardly used the Bjorn. I like carrying DD in the sling and using a light umbrella to keep the sun off of her. I resisted getting one for a long time because I didn't think I was a sling-type of gal , but I've definitely changed my mind. They are so versatile and babies love them. They are also great for discreet breastfeeding, if you are going that route. Good luck!

My daughter was 10 weeks old the first time I took her and she was fine. Very wide eyed on several of the rides. I can't recommend a sling more highly (In general, but especially at WDW. A front carrier will kill you back eventually; a slng is much more comfy. The baby centers are terrific if you just need to get out of the sun and rest, as well as feed (breast or bottle) and diaper. If you will be breastfeeding, there are many places in the parks to do so comfortably. I was a stressed out new, first time mommy when I landed in Orlando, and was a relaxed calmer mommy (with a more relaxed, calmer, happier baby, by the way) when I left 5 days later. It was truely a turning point in my mommyhood. Good luck with the remainder of your pregnancy, your delivery, your new baby, and your trip to WDW!

Definitely hit the baby care centers in all 4 parks. They are so wonderful... they have nice changing tables, high chairs, private feeding rooms, small tables and chairs for toddlers, a kitchen, and they sell any baby items you might need.

We took #3 when he was 8 months old. To us we think the key was that we when in January and didn't have to deal with the hot weather. He was comfortable and spent most of the time sleeping. We discovered the Baby Centers (particularly the one in AK when we left the diaper bag in the car by mistake!). We also discovered that place like HOP and the Epcot sit-down films made great places to nurse!

Just be prepared to be tired and expect the unexpected. I'm a mother of 3 and all 3 have been vastly different at 2 months of age. Oldest DD traveled amazingly well. At 2 months she was sleeping 9 hours at night - but didn't go to bed til 1 am! Next DS was quasi-colicky and would scream for hours each day when he was 2 months old. My youngest is easy going, but demanding. As long as her needs are met when she wants them met, she's game for the trip. But at 2 months, she was by far my worst sleeper. I was exhausted and never thought she'd sleep through the night. (Which she finally did at 5 months)
