hey guys ... HELP! i have Minnie coming up Sunday and now this.

after i walked yesterday (just 4 miles) when i got home and took off my shoes, i noticed my sock had a blood stain on the 'pointer' toe area of my left foot.

it was a little swollen so i iced it along with the rest of my feet. no problems

today i went for a short (2 mile) walk ... same thing - blood on the toe of the sock. did a little further investigating and it looks like the nail is separating from the toe. (youch)

i called my doctor and of course she is out today and all the others are booked solid.

we leave for Disney tomorrow am.

its iced right now to get the swelling down a bit, im thinking about going to a running store for advice, but i need as much input as i can get, so i thought i'd come here too...

any advice?
thanks.

Speaking as a doctor, I would advise you to tape the nail to the toe with a bandaid. From the way you describe it, it sounds like you have some nail trauma. Without looking at the nail, I can't tell whether you might also have some toenail fungus, which also can cause loosing of the nail from the nailbed. Make sure your nail is trimmed properly, also. You may also have an ingrown toenail, which involves removing the toenail to treat, and occasionally oral antibiotic.

It's really not necessarily a bad thing that you couldn't get in to see the doctor. The alternatives for treatment include removing the toenail, which you probably don't want to do so close to going to WDW and the race. If you had a toenail fungus, you would need to take oral medicine for 12 weeks to a year, depending on the medication covered by your insurance.

delilah, Thank you for being here. That is wonderful advice!
