Adding Hopper to only some tickets after arrival?

We just don't have experience with staying onsite and have never had a package. We have 5 day base tickets with the package. My question is..If, while we are there, only two of us want to go to EMH (and we would need a Hopper to do that based on our touring plan) would we be able to add the Hopper to just our tickets, or do we have to upgrade the whole family?

After you arrive, any of you can individually upgrade any ticket.

Following as I received conflicting advise from Disney: I was initially advised that "You can certainly upgrade your Magic Your Way Base Ticket to include the Park Hopper Option, but you can't select it for only a certain number of your total days. It's a single flat fee that will apply to your entire ticket package, not a single day or two." and then I was told that since we booked room and ticket packages, everyone in the room had to be one the same package.

The key to this is: AFTER ARRIVAL... any guest can then individually upgrade any ticket.

Once the guests have activated their tickets (by checking into the resort) any guest can then individually upgrade any ticket.

That's correct.

(And, that's not in conflict with the second half of your post.
It is simply two different -and correct- ticket rules.)

You don't "have to."
But, it can be of financial benefit to do so.

Thanks Robo. I have 7 day base tickets purchased before price increase that I want to upgrade to Hoppers when we are there in December. So we will wait until we are in the park to do so. (Least expensive option. Right?)

Well, that depends on from whom you bought the tickets.

If you ordered the tickets directly from Disney (NOT as part of a WDW Resort Pkg.) via the website or over the phone, or bought in-person at WDW, then you will not benefit from "using the tickets before upgrading."

It will not HURT to use the tickets at the park gate before upgrading, but you will not gain any value in doing so.

I'm from Canada so I purchased the tickets through Airmiles. They are RFID enabled credit card style tickets. I was looking for any way to cushion the blow of the exchange rate difference. So I should just be looking at $69US to upgrade to Hoppers after first using to enter the park. Correct?

In that case, YES, use the tickets to enter a theme park at least one time, and then upgrade.

The cost should then be: the difference between the price of a current new ticket of the kind that you HAVE and price of a current new ticket of the kind that you WANT.
