ACT Prep?

My DD used the Princeton Review ACT prep book and self-studied. She did awesome! If your DD has the discipline to study on her own, I recommend this route. I will probably have DS take a class when it's his turn. He is not much of a self-studier.

My dd just took the ACT last year as a sophomore to get a baseline score. She did a prep class at school and the book they used came right from the ACT website. I think it was called The Real ACT prep or something like that. We were happy with her scores as a sophmore, but she will be retaking it a few times to try to improve the score some more. The mindset of there is always room for improvement :) Colleges take the best score

My DD used this online ACT Prep tool called Shmoop and got a phenomenal score. It’s interesting in that it incorporates pop culture references into lesson plans and explains the concepts in a simple, clear, relatable manner which helps kids retain information for much longer periods of time than they would otherwise. It also had tons of practice drills, exercises, as well as full-length exams and general ACT exam strategies, which really familiarized her with the testing patterns. She said that being able to practice and learn whenever she wanted, rather than being constrained by the time stipulated by traditional ACT prep classes made a huge difference.

Interesting concept. I googled this online prep and I may try it for my daughter. Did your DD do any other prep books or just this? We have the Real ACT book, but I can't say she's doing a very good job with studying. She's busy with sports and AP classes, but time's ticking. I'm thinking we may try this.

Check out community education programs from school systems and colleges in your area if you feel your child would do better with an instructor. We have several courses available in our area, and I've heard lots of good results.

If she can get a session with Ivy Insiders, my son found that the most helpful and improved his score the most. The instructors are students at Ivy League schools, so they are not too remote from taking the test themselves. Plus they relate very well with the kids.
