Absolutely unacceptable

Let me just add to all of this that I always rent a car. I do not take monorails nor do I take the dreaded Disney buses. :scared1: My position on this is one of communication and as a mother who remembers taking that break in the afternoon to bring babies back to nap, I find that the lack of communication could easily disrupt plans for families with young children. I can see me taking at 11:30 a.m. break. Could you work around it by walking, taking a bus, using the boat???...maybe but it was not what you paid for at a monorail hotel. And when the kid needs a break and you have to find alternative transportation to your 300 plus dollar per day resort, a simple e-mail saying the service is out of order and you may want to change plans or understand the situation seems to be a no brainer to me. I think Disney takes advantage of doing this type of thing and expecting (and getting ) repeat business time after time. Which is why my original statement to OP was ... yes, complain.

I'd be upset too, that's the main perk of staying at a MK area resort....to use the monorail!

Does anyone know how long this outage is supposed to last? I know it's between 11:30 - 6pm but for how many days/weeks?

Call and complain about it. There was a thread awhile back about someone who did that because there were so many ride refurbs during their trip and they got a whole BUNCH of cool stuff. *if that makes you feel better*

It does stink but what are you gonna do? Stuff like this has to get done sometime.

If you are staying at a monorail resort and heading to the MK, the resorts are basically closer to the parks than the parking lot. Even if you "drive" to the parking lot of the MK, you still have to take a monorail or the ferry. There is not a parking lot directly in front of the park.. you must not have ever stayed at one of the monorail resorts or you would have known this. Disney usually doesn't provide a "dreaded" bus from one of the monorail resorts to the Magic Kingdom either.. or at least they didn't when I stayed at the Poly and the CR. I would assume they are only providing them now due to the closure of the monorail, that is if they are even providing it at all

I can't argue with you on that one. I know a few years back when we showed up at POR and the pool slide was closed the whole time, with no notice, I was beyond peeved. It didn't help that the manager on duty made me feel like a moron for being upset either. I do think Disney needs to communicate better, and let their guests make informed choices on what to do and how to handle the situation.

This makes me think of the Travelocity commercial and the little girl in the pool with no water. If the travel gnome can try to help people who booked with them get what they paid for, why can't Disney? :confused3

I don't know that I can equate a pool or slide closure with the monorail, though. I would be beyond PO'd if I had shelled out the money for the Poly so that I could use the convenience of the monorail, only to arrive and find out with no advanced notice that it was down due to a construction project. Especially if I had come with my Mom, who has mobility problems. Yes, I would be lodging a complaint and asking for a different resort.

I understand what you are saying and yes, I have stayed at all MK resorts. My point is not driving, renting a car, walking, or where the parking lots are located. My point is you reserve a room at a resort where you have certain expectations --- one of them being monorail service and at those prices your have the right to know whether they will be operational during your stay or not.

And "Magic Kingdom Resorts" includes Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness - which don't have direct monorail access.

Ahhhh....but those resorts cost quite a bit less the the Poly, GF and CR.....

I understand the disappointment, but I believe Disney is handling this situation well. They are limiting the down times to when fewer people are traveling back and forth, they are adding more and bigger boats (to accomodate strollers/wheel chairs/ecvs), and extra buses. If they were to e-mail everyone in all of the resorts impacted, it would create an even bigger problem than there already is. Again, I understand the disappointment, but you are getting what you pay for and that is a stay at a deluxe resort in the Magic Kingdom area. Who would decide when a mass e-mail/alert is warranted? The closure of a pool? A restaurant being rehabbed? 500 pop warner football players booking? Perhaps a closed hot tub?

Anyone who expects compensation is not being reasonable. That doesn't mean they won't get it, just that in my opinion they shouldn't.

Not looking to "stir the honey pot" but $300 per night is actually a pretty decent price for the Poly in March! Rack rates for March are listed as $465-$585 for Garden View ($615-780 for Magic Kingdom view).

Poly is awesome! I would be disappointed, too. Hopefully, the monorail is up and running quickly and the interruption will be minimal!

It would help if you lost your "I spend $300 dollars a night" attitude first. The monorail is still operating at its' typical peak times. Disney builds and refurbishes all the time, so obviously there will be some inconvient times for people. Just get over it and learn how to work around it.

OP - I would absolutely complain and try to get some sort of compensation. PM me what happens, as I'm sure you don't want to get flamed by posting it here on the Dis. I'm sure you will get something for your trouble.

I'm guessing this is why:

We have twice been and found out pool was CLOSED when we got there. Once it was Animal Kingdom and they only had the ONE pool. Closed. Not happy!

The other was POR and there they told us to walk to POFQ.... you know how far that is??? With an toddler? They made it seem like a one minute walk.

I think they should tell you this stuff when you book OR as soon as they know!

I believe it is the construction of the GF DVC that is the cause of the 11:30 to 6:00 resort and express monorail downtime.

No, that is not why they have reduced hours. As was explained several times on the thread already, it is because of construction at GF. They have to do it during daylight. It is for safety reasons.

Honestly, I understand why the OP was upset. But to let it ruin a vacation is just senseless. As a PP stated before- who goes to MK every day for a 7 day vacation? It will only affect her if she is going to the Mk really, really late in the morning (in which case her day is toast anyway) or returning to her room during the afternoon. Afternoon returns on the resort launch should not be a problem since it is a low traffic time of day. So where is the huge deal here? And does no one ever read the fine print? Nothing is guaranteed to be up and running 24/7/365. Stuff happens. Make your complaint, rake in as much $$$$ from Disney for ruining your vacation as you can, and get on with your life.

Boy you are rude. Sorry I didn't read all 5 pages. I can see how people aren't allowed to be disappointed or frustrated. Trust me I have never, EVER raked in $$$$$$ from Disney. In fact they are the ones raking in $$$$$ from me.

OP actually said that she would go and have a magical vacation but was upset.

There is no way that Disney didn't know about this much earlier than announced. You can't believe that they are going to build a DVC resort and not plan things out. I may be wrong, but I don't believe that there was a notice until the day before the monorail closures were to start. I feel that they withheld the information so that the monorail deluxe resorts did suffer a major decrease in bookings. This just doesn't seem right to me.

Nor have I. :thumbsup2 I've never since '71 received any $$$ perks from Disney. The point is simply communication. There are reasons for everything..I get that ....just allow it to be my choice and not a surprise when I arrive.

OP you have every right to be upset. It does not matter that monorail still runs in mornings and evenings, Disney transportation suppose to run all day long and this fact is one of the reasons people stay at monorail resorts.
However, there are other ways, not only bus but boat as well, so I think there is no reasons to actually complain in order to get something like some suggested, of course decision is up to you.

We leave for our trip on Friday and it was only posted yesterday that the Magic Kingdom monorails will not be operating between 11:30am and 6pm EVERY SINGLE DAY WE ARE THERE:headache:

So let me get this straight. I'm paying 300 dollars a night to ride the bus to MK? During crazy Spring Break crowds we all know how long the boat line will be to get back to the Poly. Why would Disney schedule this during such a busy time???:confused3

Where do I email my complaint?

I dont know where to complain, but dont think they'll care anyway.
Its a business for them and everywhere on their paperwork says abut being prepared for changes....
You basically have 3 choices,
grin and bear it and be ready for the situation
go before and after the hours posted
cancel out and reschedule...

I agree, its nuts and paying for the convenience of a monorail resort at a premium cost, to then NOT get the "reasonable monorail service, " is not acceptable to me either...and If it were me Id be frustrated even angry..and would prob forgo the trip if it were that important to me...
Good Luck and hope you have a smooth trip if you have to deal with it all...:wizard:

ITA! I don't like to arrive and find out one of the main reasons I stay at that hotel is out of order.

Say...I'd be ticked if I got to AKL and there were no longer animals. Would I complain until I got $$$? No. Might I ask to be moved to another hotel? yes.

Seriously..... people have a right to be disappointed or upset.
