From reading this board and my outside sources that lead me here, it seems like the standard rate for points is $10/pt. There seems like there are plenty of points out there. So unless it was for the owner's home resort >7 months out, why should a renter consider paying more? This is a sincere question.

On the same vein, if the price is <$10/pt is that usually because points are about to expire or owner has larger number of points that he/she wants to get rid of quickly?

Probably should have posted this prior to looking for rental points  Dh is worried about the level of trust required as renter........

Hi,

There really is no standard rate and it's really a matter of what the market will bear. I've noticed a move towards charging $11.00 per point over the last couple of months but you may still be able to find points for $10.00. Those offers and points go pretty quick and many people don't consider a $100.00 difference in price that big of deal when they are saving $500-$2000 over what they would pay if they paid cash thru Disney. That difference in price between renting and paying cash thru Disney is really the larger picture and why it was suggested that you visit this site.

As far as why you should consider paying more, that all depends on the type of reservation that you are trying to get. If the rooms are limited in quantity you had better jump on the best deal that you can get right away so that you don't miss out and have to settle for another resort or even another date. The Deals here are all great when you consider what you would pay to Disney directly. DVC Resorts book pretty fast. If you're looking for a room reservation for the middle of next Jan. 06 at OKW you could probably wait around until someone shows up offering $10 per point and if it takes you a couple of days or weeks you can pretty much take comfort that you will still be able to get the room/resort that you want. Now if you want something in Sept. Oct. or Nov. now is the time to book because they are going quick. BCV and BWV Studios usually go 1st. May, June, July and August have very little left to offer but you never know, you may luck into a cancellation.

Now for the trust involved. You are going to have to trust the DVC Owner that you are dealing with and that really is the bottom line. So find someone that knows the process and can explain everything in detail. Terms vary from DVC Owner to DVC Owner so you'll just have to work out those details with whom ever you decide to work with. And it never hurts to counter offer the price per points. Some are firm and some will let their points go for lower if there are a lot of points involved in the transaction.

Hope this helps,

Might I add one last bit of advice for everyone, if you're going to post or start a thread on this forum asking to rent points or looking for a reservation the very least you can do is respond back when someone sends you a PM or Private Message. Even something like "Thanks but no thanks :)" goes a long way to keep everyone polite and on good terms and only take a few seconds. When I say "you" I mean everyone not just this OP. And yes you can tell when someone has read your message that you sent them (Date and Time). I just think it's rude not to respond when someone has taken their time to respond to your request for help. After all you're not dealing with a car dealership salesman. You're dealing with regular folks just like you :).

Thanks,

I agree with you- Y-ask. I hate when someone is interested and you make the call for availability and then let them know and they never reply back to you! A waste for us!

I 100% agree with both of you. That is why I replied to all the people that have offered points for my request. I will also edit my request once things are settled.

However, you do need to consider the poster may have circumstance that do not allow immediate replies. For example in my case, I have been in and out of the house all day. The times I have been home to check for responses, my toddler has been in and out of my lap and emptying file drawers & supplies. I can still read, but it's a bit difficult to type under those conditions, LOL. She finally went down for a nap at 3:30 so I am catching up on my correspondence. Unfortunately, I am about to wake her up so I can take kids to swim practice.
