A Yakker's Paradise with Recipes (Welcome All!!)

Glad to hear that the girls understood your concerns about their behavior. Having them come up with ways to handle conflicts will really help out alot later. It is more powerful to remind them that "they said they would......." rather than "remember I said........".

I love to stop by and see how people are doing with their progress. It helps keep myself focused as well and makes losing more fun when I can cheer on others or lift their spirits. ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo

You aren't horrible. (Please disregard my Mickeybarmania post, the one with the :mickeybar :mickeybar :mickeybar 's in it. I was coming off of a "carbo-high-drate"). How's your troop doing? I'm a yper too. You're not the only one. Shake off your chocolate craving!!!! (y'know, the one you wrote about in my journal). Try choco milk or semisweet chips. Have a great day!

Lesli - I'm glad I can provide someone with inspiration. ;)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have a new favorite snack! It is 1/2 of a whole wheat pita with one wedge of The Laughing Cow Light - Swiss cheese spread mushed around inside. It is 1.5 points for the whole thing and I feel like I am getting a treat because I love the pita bread and the "cheese".
I wasn't super good this weekend food-wise but I did great yesterday with earning exercise points. DH and I worked on cleaning out the garage so I got 5 hours of moving stuff around, bending, lifting, etc. Add to that all of the lifting and folding I did for the laundry and it was great! I totally used all of the points I earned but it felt nice doing stuff.
Today has been good. We had our Monday department staff meeting at a restaurant with the best pastries ever! They bake everything fresh and boil and bake their bagels the right way! I so badly wanted something but didn't have it (other than my normal, mondo non-fat cafe au lait).
B: Slimfast shake, Mondo cafe au lait which is 1 cup of non-fat milk, coffee and sweet-n-low, 8 oz. water
L: Smart Ones Broccoli and Cheese potato, 100 Calorie Pack of Chips Ahoy, 16 oz. water
S: 1 oz. of GeniSoy Zesty Barbecue Soy Crisps, 24 oz. water
I am projecting the following dinner and evening snack: For dinner - Yummy taco salad with 4 oz. taco meat, 2/3 cup ff refried beans, 3 cups lettuce, 2 crispy taco shells, 1/4 cup lf shredded cheddar cheese, 6 olives and 1/2 cup salsa and a glass of iced tea with sweet-n-low. It's my favorite diet meal and totally filling! For snack - 1.5 cups skim milk and a Smart Ones Chocolate Mousse.
I am totally craving chocolate and will freak if I don't have some soon. Thank goodness for Smart Ones WW desserts.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I just registered for my summer Math class and my fall Spanish class. I will probably add one more class for fall but I don't know what. I'm trying to find something for Monday evenings but I'm not having any luck. It's hard because I work full-time, have my GS troop, take at least 6 hours usually and have to find time to do homework and relax on occasion. Come to think of it, with me volunteering to be Service Unit Manager in the fall, I might just stick with only taking Spanish. It's something to think about at least. :rolleyes1

I'm off to a nail appointment and then home to work on menu planning for the week and my WDW Ride Swap items. Have a great evening y'all!

Hi!

Thanks so much or stopping by while I was gone. Sounds like you're doing very well! Great job planning your meals and having good foods available.

I'll have to try the Laughing Cow cheese. I've heard so many great things about it and I have some pitas I need to use up. Thanks for the idea...

Hope you've had a great Monday!

Tiger - I haven't quite shaken the chocolate craving yet. I'm working on it. Unfortunately, :mickeybar doesn't help because now I want one! Hopefully school will be good. I hate math so this summer isn't going to be super fun. :rolleyes:

Pearlie - The Laughing Cow Cheese is wonderful! I love, love, love cheese. Unfortunately, it's super high in saturated fat and therefore super high in points. I don't get to have nearly as much as I want but I crave it constantly. Laughing Cow Cheese is an OK alternative for me and tastes pretty good to boot. It's also fairly versatile so I can use it on a lot of stuff. Try it! You very well might like it!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Last night went well. I had my yummy taco salad and even had enough left over to do a smaller version for lunch today. Instead of GeniSoy Soy Crisps for snack, I had a small Starbucks Peppermint Mocha which totally helped with my chocolate craving and then I had 4 Hershey's Kisses for dessert which is only 2 points. All in all, yesterday was good food wise.
Unfortunately, since I got home at 8:15, spent 1/2 an hour on the phone with one of my troop moms and then had dinner, I didn't have time to do menu planning. The good news is that I finally have an assistant troop leader for next year! The mom who was troop cookie manager this year has agreed to be my assistant troop leader for next year. I'm so excited because this means that I will finally have someone to help plan and prep with instead of making poor DH do it all. We're going to keep most stuff the same in that I will continue to run all the meetings and we will have the moms continue to sign up as designated helper. She was very straight-forward in saying that she isn't good at the being goofy, singing songs and doing skits part which is fine since that is my favorite. There's also the issue that she has a 2 year old so can't come to all the meetings. I'm OK with continuing to do most of the stuff I already do. I just really need someone to help me with some of the paperwork, picking up supplies, prepping and planning. I think this will work out well!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Today has been good so far.

B: Breakfast shake
L: Taco Salad
S: No idea - probably Soy Crisps or my pita snack
D: (planned) Poached salmon in a white wine dill sauce with boiled potatoes and steamed asparagus.

I have a Service Unit meeting tonight so I won't be home until 8:00 again. At least the salmon cooks up in 5 minutes. I have no idea what DH is having for dinner since he won't eat fish. Oh well. His loss. :teeth:

You are doing great! Good job on planning your meals and sticking to them as much as possible.

Glad to hear that you have found a co-leader. Teach her the paperwork, it really will take a load off. Have her make as many of the phone calls as possible. Also, encourage her to do a little planning on a try-it or two. At least that way you won't feel so bogged down trying to do it all. It is good that you are keeping your moms involved, as that will go a long way in getting them to help with things later.

Have a good day. ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo

Lesli - I am so excited that she agreed to be my assistant leader. She did an awesome job as my cookie manager so I know she'll be great at this also.

The best laid plans of mice and men ... and all that jazz. :rolleyes:

Well, dinner last night did not go exactly as I had planned. :guilty: My meeting ran really late (8:45) so I got home late and then DH and I had to go pick up some groceries and didn't get home until 9:45! I so did not feel like cooking by the time I got home because I was completely exhausted! I also had an overwhelming craving for pancakes and bacon but I managed to hang in there and fight it off.

I ended up having turkey pitas and a lean cuisine mac and cheese for dinner which was still good for me but not what I had planned. These turkey pitas are one of my new faves and are easy to make.

Turkey Pitas

1 complete whole-wheat pitas - 1 pt
deli-sliced turkey - 3 oz for 2 pts
fat-free swiss cheese - 2 slices for 1 pt
1 cup of lettuce – 0 pts
1 cup of sliced cucumbers – 0 pts
dijon mustard – 0 pts for 2 tsp.

Spread 1 tsp of Dijon inside of each pita half. Fold swiss cheese in half diagonally and place in pita point side down. Put 1.5 oz. Turkey, ½ cup lettuce and ½ cup cucumbers in each. Enjoy!

For 4 points, I had a fabulously filling and tasty meal. I ate the two halves and had the lean cuisine mac and cheese and my meal was only 10 points.

The rest of yesterday’s food:
PM Snack: ½ whole wheat pita and 1 wedge Laughing Cow Light Swiss
After dinner snack: 1 WW Chocolate Mousse cup and 1 ½ cups of skim milk

Despite my battle, yesterday was good food-wise. I stayed on target and only used my daily points with no overage. It wasn’t easy though. :sad2:

Today should be better. I have a volunteer orientation for my job this evening so I will be working late. Since I will be here until 7:00, I came in late which meant that I got to sleep in this morning! I’m not bone-tired anymore which is definitely helping with the munchies. Still, it will be another late night since I absolutely have to get some work done on my Spanish Country oral presentation for Friday’s class. It’s on Flamenco music and I’ve done the outline and a little of my visual aids but none of the meat of the presentation. Better get cracking!

Today’s Menu:
B: Slim-fast shake – I’m not a morning person and I would be irritable if I tried to eat more than this. I occasionally will have a cup of coffee but this almost always tides me over until lunch at 1ish.
L: Lean Cuisine Chicken Fettucine with broccoli
PM Snack: 1 oz. Zesty Barbecue Soy Crisps and a 100 calorie pack Chips Ahoy
D: Salmon fillet poached in a white wine dill sauce with boiled potatoes and green beans (yep, I’m trying again. Hopefully this time it will work. :rolleyes: )

As hard as this week has been so far, next week is going to kill me! I have something scheduled every day for 8 solid days. Yes, some of them I could just cancel out on but it is important for me to spend time with DH and my friends.

Monday: after work meeting to prepare Registration volunteers for an upcoming Work event.
Tuesday: GS parent meeting to plan this summer and next year
Wednesday: Troop meeting
Thursday: Crystal Method concert with DH (he’s very excited about this)
Friday: Spanish class
Saturday: AM is a camping workshop for my troop and PM is a scrapbooking crop for me.
Sunday: Early PM – National Scrapbooking Day WS. Late PM – Work event, Twilight Walk for Wishes which will be 6 hours working with volunteers and 1200 walkers. It will be fun but is also hard work.
Monday: Nail appt. so in theory, home by 8:00

I’m exhausted just looking at it all. I think I need a nap! :earseek:

Hi Shauna! :wave2:

I've been reading through your journal.......congrats on the progress you have made and continue to make! I've found that just in the few days I've been a member of WISH, that reading other people's experiences and advice has helped me to keep my wellness goal in focus. I look forward to getting to know you more as I build my own journal and continue to read yours.

Amanda - Welcome to my journal! Like you, I find reading others' journals to be motivating. It's nice to know we aren't alone with this battle!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I did well yesterday with food.
PM Snack: 100 calorie pack of Chips Ahoy
Dinner: Salmon fillet poached in a white wine dill sauce with boiled potatoes and green beans
Evening Snack: 1 cup of Kashi Go Lean Crunch with 1/2 cup milk, 1.5 cups milk
The salmon and potatoes hit the spot but the green beans were gross! I only ate a few and threw the rest away. I was still hungry after dinner so I waited a while and then ate the cereal with milk. It totally hit the spot. I was spot on for points yesterday - used all my points for the day and no overage.
I also was able to type up my presentation and prepare my visual aids. Tonight I will just need to print out the presentation and glue it onto index cards and I will be set! I also have some other Spanish homework to do so I might try to get that taken care of as well.
Today has not been a good food day because I have been munchie!!! I am kind of doing my own version of the WW Wendie Plan so today is actually an OK day for me to be high on points. Unfortunately, using that justification makes me feel like I can eat more.
Today's Menu:
B: Slim-fast shake - 4 pts.
AM Snack: double-tall, non-fat peppermint mocha from Starbucks with a small slice of their heavenly reduced-fat cinnamon coffee cake - 8 pts total :earseak:
L: Lean Cuisine Lasagna, 1 oz. Zesty Barbecue Soy Crisps, 1 pack Nabisco Fruit Snacks, cherry flavor
PM Snack: probably nothing but possibly my pita snack
D: I found a new recipe for a Dijon sirloin served over egg noodles. It's pretty low in points so I'll probably do that and do some kind of veggie.
Evening Snack: It will depend on my mood but probably something chocolate
Like I said, not great but not too terribly awful. Hopefully I'll be able to rein it in this evening but I doubt it because night time is my munchie mine field. Wish me luck!
It's been forever since I had a chance to update. There has been a lot going on around here.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Thursday PM: We went out for Sushi!!! Or at least I had sushi and DH had teppenyaki. I love my sushi place. The stuff is great and we've been going there for years. The best part is that sushi is uber-low in points and very good for you.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Friday was an OK day food wise but insane with everything else.
B: Breakfast Shake
L: Lean Cuisine Chicken Potstickers (pretty good and only 6 pts.), 1 oz. white cheddar Soy Crisps
PM Snack: 1/2 pack - 100 calorie pack wheat thins, 2 hard-boiled egg whites
D: 1.5 cups homemade beef stew and 4 oz. ciabatta bread, 1.5 cups skim milk
It was definitely a Friday the 13th!! Most of our office equipment was down so it was hard to get any work done even though I had tons to do. Then, the DVD for my Spanish presentation that was supposed to arrive on Friday didn't so I couldn't do my presentation. And I didn't have a chance to do the rest of my Spanish homework so I was totally unprepared for class! The bright spot is that I was under for points for the day.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Saturday was just bad. I was supposed to volunteer for an American Diabetes Association event that morning. Just for background, I used to work for the American Diabetes Association and just left my job at the end of February. I was excited about working at this event because it allowed me to see all of my old volunteers and the people I worked with while at ADA. The event organizer wanted me to attend and I was happy to volunteer.

Well, when I arrived, my old boss saw me and asked me what I was doing there. I told her I was volunteering and she had a meltdown! I only ended up staying there for about an hour and a half and then she came over and made me leave! I was totally angry that I had wasted my time to get up early on a Saturday morning to volunteer and she was so rude about it. She made up some crap about employees not being able to volunteer for 6 months after leaving the organization and that it was a conflict of interest for me to volunteer since I work for another organization. The short of the whole thing is that she made tons of people mad by making me leave including the event organizer, two board members and several volunteers. My friend that asked me to volunteer is so mad that she is resigning. The worst part about the whole thing is that she did it because she is still mad at me for leaving ADA for the better job that I have now. The whole thing was a really yucky way to start the day and made me realize how happy I am that I don't work there anymore. :sad2:

After we left the event, DH and I went out for breakfast and I had 3 small pancakes and some bacon. I have been craving pancakes for a week and it was nice to be able to shake that craving. After breakfast, DH and I went scrapbook shopping for some paper for my DIS swap, came home and watched Arsenic and Old Lace and then drove around searching for a place to have this Saturday's Girl Scout event. After driving around for 2.5 hours, we gave up and went to a new place in town for dinner - Panera Bread!

I was so excited to try this place after reading Pearlie and Lesli talking about how awesome it was. They are right. I had a sammy and salad combo and it was faboo! We also picked up some bread to eat at home for dinner on Sunday.

The reason my food for Saturday looks high is because it is my "free day" where I don't journal 100% of what I eat. It was also supposed to be my WI day but with all the craziness with my schedule, I didn't have time to get an accurate WI. The scale showed me down .2 lbs but with TOM moving in this week and all of the water I am currently retaining, I know that it is not accurate. I'm recording a .2 lb. loss for the week but am acknowledging to myself that it is not accurate so I don't feel quite as bad. :rolleyes:

Sunday was also an OK day for me. I went to a scrapbook crop in the afternoon and got some rest after the fiasco that was Saturday.

B: Nuttin! I slept through it! :teeth:
L: 1/2 Totinos Pepperoni Party Pizza (gross but I wasn't hungry any more)
PM Snack: very small piece of egg white mushroom quiche and 1 chocolate dipped strawberry
D: 1.5 cups of homemade beef stew and 4 oz. of ciabatta

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yesterday was a bad food day for me. I was way high on points and just couldn't shake the munchies!
B: Shake
AM Snack: 1 large non-fat cafe au lait, 1 sm. piece sourdough toast w/ 1 tsp. butter
L: Panera sandwich w/fruit cup
D: 2 cups angel hair pasta, 3/4 cup pasta sauce, 4 oz. Panera Country bread
Night snack: 3/4 cup Cinnamon Toast Crunch w/ 1/2 cup skim milk, 1.5 cup skim milk
I was out asking for food donation to feed my volunteers at my event this next Sunday. I tried Panera and since it always helps to purchase something when you ask for free stuff, I had a sandwich for lunch. I changed the bread but didn't have the presence of mind to ask for no spread so I piled on the points. I'm so mad at myself for doing that!! :guilty:
Yesterday evening, I had to attend a training for the registration for the Walk. The coordinator had pizza, root beer and chocolate out and I managed to avoid all three! I was proud of myself for that despite all of my overindulgences for the day!
And now I'm caught up!
B: Shake
AM Snack: 1 cup baby carrots, 1 oz. white cheddar soy crisps
L: LC Chicken Parmesan
D: Salad and maybe a slice or 2 of pizza
I have my Girl Scout parent meeting tonight to plan for the summer and fall. We are meeting at Round Table so depending on everyone else, we may or may not be getting a pizza. If we do individual stuff, I will probably just get a salad and personal pizza. I am trying really hard to stay right on for points today.
That is insane that she wouldn't let you volunteer. Hello, it's VOLUNTEERING! I can imagine how angry that made you. I would be livid. You take time out of your day to do something good and this is what you get in return. Crazy. :confused3
Excellent job in resisting the temptations yesterday! It's never easy.
I've been hearing all these rave reviews about Panera Bread....I wish there was one near me. The closest is 2 hours away!
Actually being down on your weight during TOM sounds pretty good to me. You know it will look even better once its over. Great job! :banana:
That's crazy. I'm sorry that had to happen to you. What an evil picklehead of a boss!!! :mad:
You're doing awesome!!!!!!! Panera's is awesome, don't you think? I like my sandwich and Broccoli Cheddar Soup combo. Yum-o.
Ugh, people like that make me so angry. You're volunteering for a good cause and she's complaining about conflict of interest? For crying out loud it's a volunteer job!! It's not like me working for The Disney Store while simultaneously working for Toys R Us. This is you volunteering for a cause that's VERY important and she's gotta throw some trivial little issue into it. Simply pathetic. Well, I just gotta say that what goes around comes around.
I love Panera's soups. I'm not a big fan of anything else from there really...but get me that cream of chicken & wild ricec soup with the sourdough bread...oh man am I a goner!
That's so awesome that you do so much for other people and your community. I'm with everyone else--your old boss is a chucklehead!
Glad to see you've joined the cult of Panera! I may wind up there for lunch today--you planted the seed in my head. :teeth:
I hope you have a great day!
I am back! There has been much going on and I've not been feeling well so just didn't have the energy to post.
Amanda - I am angry at my old boss but her behavior is par for the course. That's one of the reasons why she is my "old" boss. If you are ever near Panera, try it out! It's yummy!
Tiger - Evil picklehead is a good description!
Mary - I haven't tried any of their soups yet. That will be next!
Pearlie - I greatly enjoy volunteering and I was happy to help out at the event. Like I said above, that's why she's an old boss. She was like that even when I worked there!
Back with updates soon!
