A Yakker's Paradise with Recipes (Welcome All!!)

Hey! Glad to see you back! Hope all is well with you!

This past week was crazy busy! Tuesday night was my Girl Scout parent meeting which went well for planning but not for food. I ended up eating a personal veggie pizza, two garlic breadsticks and having 2 pints of beer! The meeting was fun and it was nice to hang out, talk and drink beer but my points were way over for the day.

Wednesday was my Girl Scout meeting which went really well. I came home and had my yummy Turkey Taco Salad so that was good.

Thursday was taco salad for lunch and salad at a neat little place here in town for dinner. DH and I went to a Crystal Method DJ Set at a club here in town Thursday night. I did 1 hour of dancing and had 2 martinis. The whole thing was only so-so so we were home by 10:30.

Friday was the last day of our Spanish class. I gave my presentation on Flamenco which was very well received and then 2/3 of the class went out to dinner at a Mexican restaurant. Dinner was good and I did well. I was under on points for the day and the week. I found out that I got an A in the class so that is always good. I also have 2 whole weeks off from school until my summer class starts so I am very excited about that!

Pearlie - Hey there! You snuck in on me! Things are OK. I'm starting to feel better.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Saturday was not a good day. The parents decided that they wanted to cancel the Girl Scout field trip we had scheduled for Saturday morning so that didn't happen which did mean that I got to sleep in a little bit. When I got up, I did WI and I was up 1 pound! :sad2: :sad1: :sad: I think a big part of it is that I am retaining a massive amount of water right now because of TOM. My ankles are swollen and I am bloated which is why I'm pretty sure that it is just TOM.
The annoying thing is that I've never been up on a WI day and even though I'm pretty sure I know why, it is still discouraging. Between this and last week's WI of only being down .2 lbs, I'm having a pretty rough month. I really do think that I am going to try out a trial membership at Curves to see how that goes. I think that it is time to add exercise and that addition will make a big difference in my WL.
Saturday afternoon, DH and I ran a bunch of errands and then I went to a scrapbooking Crop. We were at Round Table so I had a personal veggie pizza and a large salad. Dinner was OK and I did pretty well on my points for the day. DH made me leave the Crop early because he wanted to see Star Wars. We bought our tickets on Fandango and arrived an hour early and the line was still out the door and around the corner. I didn't want to end up with a crappy seat so I traded in the tickets and we went home. DH was totally mad but I was tired and didn't really want to go anyway. :rolleyes:
Saturday Food:
B: Nuttin' again! I slept in.
L/PM Snack: Pile o' nachos at On the Border
D: Personal veggie pizza, large salad, root beer
Eve. Snack: 1.5 cups of milk
Three large bottles of water
Sunday was insane! I slept in a bit again, then DH and I got up and went to breakfast. After breakfast, I went to a National Scrapbooking Day Crop for about an hour to get some ideas, get the free stuff and pay off my bill for the month. After the Crop, we went straight to my work event, Twilight Walk for Wishes. I arrived at 2:30 and was in the park until 9:00 pm. I did tons of walking and met lots of my volunteers. The event went well but it was SO HOT outside - in the 90s in the middle of the afternoon. I sweated off some pounds that day but I'm sure I've gained them back since then.
After the Walk, DH and I went to the movies to see Star Wars. We arrived an hour early for the 10:00 pm show and they asked us if we wanted to see the 9:30. My favorite seats were still open so we went to the earlier one. The movie was awful but DH liked it and I don't have to see any more so I guess that's OK. :rolleyes: We actually didn't get home until about 12:45 am and didn't get to bed until 1:00 am but I was OK because I had slept in that morning.
Sunday Food:
B: Nuttin' part 2. I slept in! :p
L: 1 biscuit and gravy, 1 sausage patty, 2 scrambled egg whites
D: 1/2 turkey sandwich, 1 cup chocolate ice cream, 2 large tortilla chips
Eve. Snack: 1 container pretzel bites with nacho cheese dip, 1/2 large root beer
5 medium to large bottles of water
I woke up Monday morning and couldn't talk! Being in the park all day on Sunday made my allergies flare up. My nose was runny, my eyes were runny, itchy and red, my throat was sore, my ears hurt, I couldn't talk and I felt like total crap! Even though I felt like total crap, I got up and headed to the cafe were we normally have our Monday morning department meetings only to find that it was cancelled and no one told me. So I went ahead and bought my breakfast and then went into work late. When I got into the office, everyone was dressed casually and I was wearing my nice work clothes. They had apparently forgotten to tell me that the day after an event is casual. Whatever! :rolleyes: Then, the ED decided to order lunch for everyone so I recommended salads and sandwiches but they decided on pizza. I planned to eat my lean cuisine but they gave me such a hard time about not eating lunch with them that I gave in and had pizza. Even though I felt like crap, I totally croaked through the day which could only be described as long.
After work, I had a nail appt. which I went to and then headed home. I totally didn't feel well and DH stopped off at our local burger/cone place to get dinner for himself (I was having store sushi). Well, needless to say, I smelled the darn burgers and wanted one so instead of good for me sushi, I had a bad for me double bacon cheeseburger and a root beer float! I managed to not eat any fries but dinner still wasn't great. Add that to the pizza that the office brought in for lunch and Monday was just a sucky day! :earseek:
Monday Food:
B: 1 large non-fat cafe au lait, 1 breakfast bagel with 2 scrambled egg whites, 1 piece of well-cooked crumbled bacon and 1 oz. of shredded cheddar cheese
L: 2 slices veggie and 1 slice cheese thin crust pizza from Round Table, diet root beer
D: 1 small double bacon cheeseburger, 1 small root beer float
Eve Snack: 1.5 cups skim milk
Tuesday was just as bad. I still didn't feel well, couldn't talk and wanted to take Tuesday afternoon off as personal time and Wednesday off as my comp day for working on Sunday. I came in, got a bunch done and then got called into a meeting with the ED and the two directors. Apparently, they have decided to restructure my supervision. When I started my new job, I reported to the Development Director because most of the stuff I do is staffing for development events. I will be going full time in September so they have decided to add more work to my load and give me stuff for the Wish Department. My predecessor did a dual report to both directors which totally didn't work so they decided to change that and have me report directly to the ED. Hopefully that will work out well.
I left work at 1:00, went to lunch with DH and then went home and slept. After work, DH and I went to see a sneak preview for "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" which was pretty good. I had half a bag of kettle corn and some root beer at the movie. Afterwards, we went to On the Border because I wanted soup. I had 1 cup of tortilla soup and some flour tortillas. I did not have a single chip from the chip basket which is usually my downfall.
Tuesday food wasn't so great:
B: Breakfast shake
L: chicken and veggie pita with 2 tbsp. teriyaki sauce, 1 cup chopped fruit, 1/2 piece European Chocolate Truffle Pie
PM Snack: 2 cups kettle corn, 1/2 large root beer
D: 1 cup tortilla soup, 6 (oops) small flour tortillas
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Wednesday was a little better. I took yesterday as my comp day so I got to rest. I slept in really late and then worked on my scrapbooking stuff for the DIS Ride Swap. I didn't talk to anyone all day so I mostly have my voice back now. Also, since I was home, I didn't really eat a meal but snacked instead. All of my snacks were good though! The hard part is that I was watching Food Network while working on my stuff and the shows were making me super hungry! Don't try that when you're dieting. :sad2:

Wednesday Food:
B: Nuttin! Slept through it.
L: Shake
PM Snack: 2 oz. reduced fat wheat thins, 2 oz. white cheddar soy crisps, 1 whole wheat pita with 2 wedges Laughing Cow light cheese smushed inside.
D: 1.5 cups homemade Don Pablo's style chicken tortilla soup, 1/4 cup fat free shredded cheddar cheese, 2 corn tortillas cut in thin strips and baked until crunchy, 1.5 cups skim milk

Not a bad day but could have been better!

Today is going well. I mostly have my voice back and feel a bit more well rested. I have most of my energy and am trying to be good. I don't have anything to do this evening or tomorrow evening so that is awesome. And, since this is a three-day weekend, I am hoping to get plenty of rest!

B: Shake
AM Snack: 1 Danimals yogurt, 1 apple cinnamon Nutri-grain bar
L: (Projected) - Lean Cuisine Steak Tips Dijon with veggies and rice pilaf
D: (Projected) - Don't really know but probably something with salmon

I do feel a nap coming on this evening because I am still not feeling 100% myself. I stayed up late last night watching the American Idol finale. I am quite pleased with the outcome since I voted for Carrie but I would have been happy either way. In fact, I will be more likely to purchase Bo's album anyway!

Talk to y'all soon!

Hey Shauna!

I've been thinking about going to see the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. Glad you liked it, I might try to see it soon if I can find the time.

The tortilla soup sounds awesome as well.......never had it!

Glad you are feeling better. I know how miserable you feel when you are sick. The last thing you want to do is eat, exercise or work. :earboy2:

I'm normally a huge American Idol fan but quit watching it mid-season after Nikko was voted off. I liked him! My family liked Carrie though.

Anyway, keep up the great work!! I hope you feel 100% soon!

Amanda - Hi there! I'll post the recipe for the soup soon since this journal is supposed to have recipes. :rolleyes: I'm glad Carrie won. I picked her at the beginning like I did with Kelly and Fantasia so I'm happy that my instincts are still sound. Simon and I are so in tune. :teeth:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I was pretty good the rest of the day yesterday. Of course, food didn't go the way I planned but then again, does it ever? :sad2:
Remainder of Thursday:
L: Spinach Salad with dried cranberries, walnuts, chicken and low-fat orange viniagrette
PM Snack: Nutri-grain Banana Bar
D: 1/2 Tombstone Pepperoni Cheese Stuffed Pizza, 1.5 cups skim milk
I did get my nap in so I'm feeling a bit better. Plus, when I woke up this morning, I had my voice back!! I sound like myself again which is great. It's so hard to get work done when you can't talk to anyone.
Friday Food Plan:
B: Double tall non-fat, no-whip Peppermint Mocha, small piece of heavenly RF cinnamon coffee cake
AM Snack: None because breakfast fills me up!
L: LC Dijon Steak Tips
D: ???? Something salmony with asparagus. Probably blackened grilled salmon and grilled asparagus.
TTFN!
Sorry to hear that you have not been feeling well and that you had to deal with a lot of stress over a volunteer event. People like your old boss are the "glory takers" if you ask me. They forget what the cause is and just want to be recognized. However, ticking off board members is never a good idea, so maybe she will get her just desserts! ;)
Sounds like you have been very busy and considering, I think you have been doing pretty well. Just keep focused on the the goal and you will make it there. Going to go post those recipes in my journal that you were inquiring about a few weeks ago. ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo
Glad you're feeling better Shauna. Being a volunteer is NEVER easy and from experience I know volunteers frequently go under appreciated.
Your food sounds like you are doing pretty well at staying on track. Slip ups happen. Oh well..... you just have to move on.
Peppermint Mocha?????? Our starbucks only has them in Nov - Jan. My FAV and I miss them......
Lesli - You are right about my old boss. She was so jealous that people were actually happy to see me that she couldn't stand herself. Nobody is ever happy to see her. Maybe it should tell her something about herself. :rolleyes: Yippee!! Yummy recipes. I will be over to see them soon!
Goldcupmom - Yippee! A new page and a new visitor! Way to make my day!! :cool1: I have been trying to just move on and that is the best advice I could follow. I've always drunk Peppermint Mochas but just didn't call them that. Starbucks always has green mint syrup. Just ask them to add a shot of mint to your mocha and voila! Peppermint Mocha without the little red sprinkles. Enjoy! :teeth:
Well, after a truly bad month, WI was today and I was down 4.8. Mind you that this is after losing .2 one week and gaining 1 last week so it's not all that great. :rolleyes: I am happy that I finally got my 25 lb. clippie which I have been wanting for quite some time. :teeth:
I was good today with food. It was my free day but I was restrained. I love, love, love baked cheese ravioli and haven't had any in months! Today, DH and I ran some errands and then went to Buca di Beppo for lunch. We were indulgent and had the fried mozzarella and the Baked Items Sampler (I can't remember what it's called in Italian) which consisted of a double dose of baked ravioli, canneloni and manicotti. I hardly ate any and then we got the rest to go. We're having it for dinner tonight as well because it was good. During our errands, I dropped into Bath and Body Works to get some Cucumber Melon Body Spray (my favorite for 8 years) and found this fabulous beach tote! It is large and stripey with two large vinyl panels in the middle and pockets inside for cell phone and other stuff. It is the perfect size for my knitting and is also big enough to put a small clutch in as well. I love, love, love it!! :cool1:
To update Friday's food:
D: 3 chicken tacos with chicken, onions, cilantro and hot sauce on corn tortillas. I LOVE Baja Fresh!!!
Eve. Snack: 1/4 cup Haagen Daas Light Mint Chip Ice Cream, 1.5 cups skim milk.
Saturday Food:
B: Nuttin! I slept through it. ;)
L: 2 rounds fresh mozzarella, breaded and fried, 2 large baked ravioli, 1/2 canneloni, 1/2 manicotti and 1 root beer
PM Snack: Ciabatta bread and havarti with dill cheese (cheese sammy, gourmet style!)
D: 2 rounds fresh mozzarella, breaded and fried, 2 large baked ravioli, 1/2 canneloni, 1/2 manicotti and a sparkling pink lemonade
Dessert!! :teeth: Five mile chocolate cake (so-called because you smile for 5 miles after eating it!) and a glass of skim milk
DH and I decided to get out of town for a quick trip. We are taking the train into San Francisco tomorrow and spending the night at the Omni Hotel in the Embarcadero. The train trip is 2 hours from Sacramento directly to Jack London Square in Oakland. Then we catch the ferry into San Franciso and from there, the hotel is only about 6 blocks away. We are going to visit a friend tomorrow and have dinner with him and then we are going to go to one of the art museums on Monday and then take the train back. It will be a quick little trip but work, school and Girl Scouts has been crazy lately so it will be nice to get out of town for a quick trip.
I intend to have clam chowder in a bread bowl tomorrow and then we are going to Ghiradelli square for a divine sundae. Yes, it is the same one that is at DTD at WDW but the original factory is in San Francisco and that's where we are going. I'll be eating slightly more and richer foods but I will doing tons of walking so it should balance out.
Have a great holiday all! :Pinkbounc
My Trip Update
We decided to take this trip at the very last minute Friday night. I have been feeling kind of cabin feverish for a while and have been completely busy with my normal life so wanted to do something fun and different. We go into San Francisco several times a year to visit friends and to attend various parties but we really don't go in very often to do the fun touristy stuff or to just do our own thing. I figured this weekend would be the perfect time for us to do the tourist thing so we booked train tickets from Sacramento to Jack London Square in Oakland and one night at the Omni Hotel in the Financial District. We didn't make any other concrete plans but knew that we were going to take the ferry from Oakland to SF, have a meal with our friend Jim, have clam chowder and visit Ghiradelli Square.
We got up early on Sunday, got ready and called a cab to pick us up and take us to the train station. They gave us a 15 to 30 minute window, so figuring that we had a little time, DH and I decided to make up a snack for the train trip. I was in the kitchen slicing havarti with dill cheese when the cab pulled up after only 10 minutes. :sad2: I hurriedly finished slicing, grabbed a small ciabatta bread loaf, a bottle of sparkling pink lemonade and a bottle of water, crammed them in my cooler bag and ran out to the cab. We arrived at the train station 10 minutes later and went in to get our paper tickets and head out to the platform.
I was amazed at how lax the train station was in terms of security! :earseek: We walked up to the window and got our tickets. They asked to see I.D. but that was all! We got our tickets and walked right on out to the platform! No one checked our tickets when we got on the train or checked our bags to make sure that they were OK. In fact, we were told to stow our bag in a downstairs compartment and then find a seat. We could have totally just put any kind of bag or whatever in there and just walked off and no one would have known it didn't belong to someone. After the hypersensitivity of airline travel, it was shocking how casual and lack of security-ish the entire train experience was!
Anyway, this was my first train trip so I was very excited! Our train was already at the platform but the doors were closed so we waited about 5 minutes until the doors opened and then got on. DH stowed our bag downstairs in the little baggage compartment and I headed upstairs to find a place to sit. I found us a lovely little 4 seat/table area and we settled in and waited for the train to depart. About 5 minutes after we pulled out of the station, the conductor came by and took our tickets.
I get violently bus-sick, but never having been on a train, we didn't know how I would handle the motion or if it would make me sick. After about 15 minutes, it did end of making me a little queasy so DH and I ran down to the snack car mainly so I could say that I visited the "dining car" on the train but also to see if they had anything that looked super-yummy. We bought a snack and then headed back up to our seats. DH had a bag of Lays potato chips and I had a "jumbo cheese-filled pretzel" which was your normal, run-of-the-mill, soft pretzel with cheez whiz squeezed into the middle. It was OK but probably not worth the points/calories. We hadn't had any breakfast so we ate some of the ciabatta and havarti and drank the sparkling pink lemonade. We looked out of the windows and talked most of the trip so we didn't use the stuff we had brought to amuse ourselves, i.e. the books, CDs, CD player and knitting that I lugged around the whole trip. Still, it was a fun trip and I enjoyed the ride without having to deal with the normal Bay Area traffic and insane drivers! :flower:
Sounds like you had an awesome time. Did you eat at Ghirardelli's? I sure hope you did! I also hope you got some yummy sourdough bread!
What is havarti?
Can't wait to hear about the rest of your trip! I'm glad to hear you had a good time!!!
