Welcome and Congrats!! :)

Can't wait to hear more about the SOG wedding!! I am very intrigued! :goodvibes

My DF & I decided on Disney because (other than loving Disney of course! :lovestruc) we didn't want to deal with spending all of our money feeding a gazillion people we didn't want coming in the first place! LOL. Does that seem harsh? With Disney, we can keep it at who we want to invite, because we know the people who we would have to invite *just to be polite* wouldn't go! ;)

Hi Kate:wave2: Welcome and congratz on you engagement! I am in grad school too, welcome to the crazy world of trying to juggle classes while planning a wedding :goodvibes I guess that's just what makes us awesome brides! Congratz again and I can't wait to hear more of your plans.:thumbsup2

Woo woo! I'm excited people are reading! I started doing a little dance around the house and my mom was looking at my like I was nuts :confused3

Greg is right! SoG is only for military and department of defense (DoD) employees. People can use it if they have a military sponsor- someone with them who is military or DoD. DF is active duty army so that's why we can use it.

Doesn't sound harsh at all, because that was exactly our thought process! :goodvibes

So far, the only thing really planned is the location. This is what the gazebo looks like:

I got the pictures from this website, where many more pictures of the resort are:

Sir, I don’t know who you are, but thank you for your pictures!

If you're looking for pictures of SoG weddings, Randy Chapman has some on his website. http://www.chapmanphotography.com/dismain.html

Put your mouse over Disney Weddings Menu, click on Fairy Tale Wedding locations, then put your mouse to the left of the screen until you see Shades of Green.

There are also pictures on the Shades of Green facebook page, but not many.

Originally we were only planning on inviting around 25 people and we were told the Gazebo price would be $125 for under 25 people, $150 for over 25 people. Now we’ve up-ed the guest count to 50 and we’re still waiting to hear back about the cost. I’m assuming it’s going to be around $200- I’ll let you know when we find out! The price includes the gazebo location, chair set up, and tables with basic white linens.

It’s going to be a 9 a.m. ceremony so we can try to beat the heat. Then we’re just going to have breakfast at the Garden Gallery after. The regular breakfast buffet is 10.95/adult 4.95/child. We could pay more to have something more personal, but this works for us. We’re still waiting on approval, but we’re going to try to get one of the “pods” of the Garden Gallery reserved so we can have some privacy.

The do have a ballroom that you can have a reception in, but that wasn't really what we wanted since we're doing an at-home reception. We're fine with the normal breakfast buffet. :goodvibes

The room block is a little trickier. I read through some of the older SoG PJs from past brides, and many of them had a room block. I don’t know if their policy has changed, but they’re being sticklers with the “3 rooms per sponsor” rule. So DF can sponsor 3 rooms, each of our grandfathers can sponsor 3 rooms, I have an uncle and DF has an aunt who can be sponsors. That’s 15 rooms if all of those sponsors can make it. When I spoke with Virginia (I think she’s the event sales consultant) on the phone, she said she’d have to talk to her supervisor to get approval for a traditional room block where we wouldn’t have to worry about sponsors. I’m crossing my fingers, because it would be a pain to ask our guests to bring their military paperwork with them.

Next post: photographer options and dress shopping!

Absolutely beautiful locale! It's going to be beautiful :)

I love that first dress!! :) That was definitely my number 2 pick in regards to wedding dresses!!

I agree it was quite heavy- as I am having an outdoor ceremony as well, and it was gorgeous on, but it wasn't for me. Mine was more of a princess-y feel then a more couture look.

I wish you luck in dress shopping!!! :goodvibes

That second dress looks alot like my wedding dress. Are you my secret wedding twin?? :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::lmao::lmao:

Hello fellow library science student!

Your ring is gorgeous, so pretty :goodvibes:

And my favorite dress is the second one, but you should keep searching until you find the one that you LOVE!
